THOUSANDS FLOCK TO HEVRON OVER PASSOVER by Ido ben Porat Thousands of Jews are flocking to the Cave of Machpela in Hevron this Passover holiday. The cave, of which only specific sections are generally open to Jewish visitors, is open in full to Jews during the Holiday. 1,000 IDF fighters, Police and Border Police are guarding the masses taking part in a variety of tours of holy sites in the Jewish neighborhood of Hevron, as well as in tours and prayers at the Cave of Machpela. "The many forces at the scene will work to maintain public order and prevent terror, and protect visitors and pilgrims, Police said. Regional defense officer of the Judea region Eitan Dana said that "there is no better time to take the family and act on the words of the song ‘get up and walk the Land of Israel with a backpack and stick.’" Thousands of visitors in the Jewish community of Hevron testify to feeling a high level of security. Within the framework of the Holiday, entry is uniquely being granted to the tomb of the Prophet Otniel Ben-Knaz in Hevron. The tomb is being secured by IDF forces. Dana added that "for me personally, it is exciting to see the hundreds of visitors, civilians alongside Jewish tourists from the diaspora, Israelis from all sectors, enter the secured premises of the tomb of Otniel Ben-Knaz who, according to tradition, is the son-in-law of Calev Ben-Yefuneh, one of the 12 spies sent to scout the Land of Israel after the exodus from Egypt. We feel pride and a sense of mission to be securing the tomb." 2. ROUGH PASSOVER ON THE ROAD by Reut Hadar A woman of about 30 was killed this afternoon, Wednesday, in a head-on collision between vehicles in the Negev. Two additional persons around 30 years of age were injured critically and seriously, respectively. They were treated by MDA medics and evacuated by helicopter to Soroka hospital in Beer Sheva. This morning, a 26-year-old driver was killed in a car accident on Route 38 in central Israel. A truck deviated from its lane, crossed the security barrier in the middle of the road and entered the lane for traffic moving in the opposite direction, where it crashed into a private vehicle driven by the youth. Traffic police have opened an investigation into the tragic incident. Rescue teams rushed to the scene to extricate the youth from the scene, but medics were forced to confirm his death. Yesterday, a 26-year-old tractor driver was killed near the Kidron Junction in central Israel, while a 16-year-old youth was run over and killed near the Givat Zeev Junction near Jerusalem. 3. TEEN CRITICALLY INJURED IN CAR ACCIDENT, DIES IN HOSPITAL by Arutz Sheva Staff [video:2026837] A 16-year-old boy was injured on Tuesday night in a car accident on Route 436, between Givat Ze'ev Junction and Givonim Junction. Magen David Adom paramedics administered first aid and CPR. They then transferred the victim to Hadassah Har Hatzofim Hospital in Jerusalem. The victim was in critical condition, and later died of his injuries. MDA emergency paramedic Daniel Dubinky, who treated the teen, said, "On the side of the road was an unconscious boy of about sixteen. He did not have a heartbeat, was not breathing, and suffered from injuries to multiple bodily systems:" "We administered medical aid and transferred him as quickly as possible to the hospital, while doing advanced CPR procedures. He was in critical condition. "The driver of the car that hit him was a 25-year-old man. He was treated at the scene and was fully conscious." As a result of the accident, Route 436 towards Ramot has been temporarily closed off. 4. AHMADINEJAD IS BACK by Arutz Sheva Staff Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad submitted this morning, Wednesday, his candidacy to once again become president of Iran. Ahmadinejad announced his registration as a candidate in Iran’s presidential election that is to take place in May, according to Iranian state media. His announcement comes in direct opposition to the instruction of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had ordered Ahmadinejad not to run for the presidency again. So far, 126 names appear on the candidate’s list - 120 men and 6 women. Ahmadinejad has been notorious for his statements against the Jewish State, having expressed his readiness to "wipe out" Israel. He has said that "the period of the Zionists is over" and said that Israelis "should give their place to others." He also has denied that the Holocaust occurred, having called the Holocaust "a colonialist plan that resulted from a lie" that Israel exploits to suppress Palestinian Authority Arabs. 5. LEFTIST MK: GET RID OF 'CHAMETZ LAW' by Arutz Sheva Staff Opposition MK Tamar Zandberg (Meretz) on Wednesday announced she would fight the law forbidding public showing of chametz (leavened products) during the Pesach (Passover) holiday. The new proposal would cancel the existing law and allow the public display of chametz during Pesach. It will be proposed immediately following the end of the holiday. Zandberg claims the current law, which was made in the 1980s, has no place in a democratic country. "Israel is not a country of Jewish law," Zandberg said. "Whoever wants to avoid buying and eating chametz can do so, but there is no need to make it a law. That's not what Israeli law was meant for. "Whoever wants to avoid eating chametz on Pesach can do so, did so successfully before the current law was made in 1986, and will continue to do so if the law is canceled. "This law is dead, and in the past few years people have tried and failed to revive it. "This law is part of an effort by religious minority extremists to dictate what Israeli society should be like. It's a law of religious coercion, created because of a power struggle. The law is not in keeping with Jewish custom. "The decision whether or not to eat chametz on Pesach is a personal one, and the law has no business getting involved in the issue or sanctioning those who violate the law." If Zandberg's proposal is passed, it would seriously hurt Israel's Jewish character. Chametz is not allowed to be eaten, sold, or even seen during the Pesach holiday. Since Israel is a Jewish country, enforcing the Jewish law and custom is logical and legitimate. Zandberg's proposal is an attempt to change Israel from a Jewish democratic country to a democratic country with many Jews. 6. PLAN SCRAPPED TO NAME MEMORIAL SITE FOR MURDERED MINISTER by Arutz Sheva Staff Murdered former Minister Rahavam Zeevi will not be memorialized at Shaar Hagai along the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem highway, but rather in a different location - apparently in Gush Etzion south of Jerusalem, Reshet Bet reported Tuesday night. Shaar Hagai was the scene of brutal attacks by Arabs against Jewish convoys bringing supplies to the starving Jewish population of Jerusalem during the War of Independence. According to the new report, following protests against the original intention to name a memorial site at Shaar Hagai after Zeevi, the site is to be named instead after the Jewish convoys to Jerusalem. The decision has been accepted by the Prime Minister’s office, which said that it is working to find a replacement site. The "Later generations for the memorialization of Palmah fighters" organization, which stood behind the decision against calling the site after Zeevi, praised the decision, but is waiting for an official notification on the matter, as the original intention to name the site for Zeevi is still in force until a replacement site is found. Family members of Zeevi said they were okay with the decision as long as the replacement site is "respectable." "We are very amazed by the heritage that remains [from Zeevi] and we want to pass it on to the children. Just as the government decided that the [memorial] will be at Shaar Hagai, if [the replacement site] will be another respectable location acceptable to us, we’ll do the same work there," Zeevi’s son Palmah Zeevi told Yediot Aharonot on Wednesday. On the other hand, the Zionist Union faction praised last night the decision to call the Shaar Hagai site after the Jewish convoys and not after Zeevi, but called "not to memorialize Zeevi at any location," citing unproven claims against Zeevi of sexual harassment. Rehavam Zeevi was an IDF general and the outspoken head of the Moledet party. He advocated 'voluntary transfer' - paying Arab residents of Judea and Samaria to emigrate and take up residence in new countries where they could feel more comfortable, at the expense of the Israeli taxpayer. He was also sharply opposed to the Oslo Accords, and led and participated in many protests against them. In 2001, he was appointed Tourism Minister in the government of Ariel Sharon – the first government position he took in over a decade - after he resigned from Yitzhak Shamir's government when Shamir agreed to discuss Israeli concessions at the Madrid Conference. Despite his firmly right-wing views, Ze'evi was a longtime comrade of murdered Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, with whom he served heroically in the pre-state Palmach fighting brigade. His nickname, Gandhi, according to legend, was given to him by Palmach members, who said that Zeevi looked like the Indian leader when he wore long Arab-style robes during his undercover work in the Palmach. Zeevi was murdered at the height of the Second Intifada, as he left the Hyatt Hotel on Mount Scopus in Jerusalem. Zeevi's murder was organized by top Arab terrorist Ahmad Saadat, one of the few terrorists Israel refused to release in the deal to exchange over 1,000 terrorists for kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. An expose by the TV program "Uvda" in April 2016 included unproven allegations against Zeevi of sexual harassment and connections to the underworld. Zeevi’s family opposed the broadcast, and filed a petition - which was rejected - to prevent the airing of the expose, claiming that it was unfair that Zeevi was no longer alive to defend himself against the allegations, and that police investigations into criminal ties had proved fruitless. 7. SYRIAN REFUGEE ATTACKS LEFTISTS DURING CNN INTERVIEW by Chana Roberts [youtube:2026849] In a CNN interview, Syrian citizen Kassam Eid, who survived a chemical attack in 2013, told CNN and the world how grateful he was when US President Donald Trump attacked Syria in retaliation for last week's chemical attack on civilians. In the interview, Eid also attacked leftists for hypocrisy and their opposition of Trump's immigration ban. "I saw the news, I cried out of joy. I thank G-d, I - I don't know," Eid began. "We've been asking for protection, we've been asking for consequences for more than six years. For the very first time, we see Syrian Presidnt Bashar al-Assad held accountable - just for once held accountable for his crimes against humanity. "I felt grateful for President Trump, I felt grateful for each and every person who...kept on talking until someone actually listened. "Assad is still in Damascus. He's still ordering his troops to kill and rape and torture. He killed half a million people, he displaced twelve million people, he tortured thousands and thousands of people.... He raped thousands and thousands of women. "He helped create ISIS with his atrocities. He drove people to desperation to join extremist groups when they didn't find justice and they went after revenge. "We ask for safe zones in Syria. Everyone kept asking me, 'Please if you're going to talk again, please, for the love of G-d, tell them we need safe zones, tell them to stop Assad's airplanes from bombing us.' "Shortly after the raid on ISIS' airport, the Assad regime and the Russians launched many attacks all across Syria, with aircraft, and they targeted hospitals and schools and civilians." When asked what he thought about how Trump's immigration ban fits with his attack on Syria, Eid said, "With all due respect, I didn't see each and every person who was demonstrating after the Trump ban, I didn't see you two days ago when people were gassed to death. "I didn't see you in 2013 when people were gassed to death. I didn't see you raising your voice against President Obama's inaction in Syria, that...made us refugees get kicked out of Syria. "If you really care about helping us, please, help us stay in our country. We don't want to come to the United States. We want to stay in our country. "With all due respect, this is hypocrisy. "We don't want to become refugees. We want to stay in our country. Help us establish safe zones, help us stay safe in our country." Turning to President Trump, Eid said, "Please, sir, what you did was amazing. What you did was a powerful message of hope for a lot of people inside and outside of Syria. Please, don't stop at this. "Please, help Syrians stay in their country. Please establish safe zones. Please take out ISIS' air force, so they won't be able to commit more atrocities using traditional weapons. "500,000 people were killed with traditional weapons. Just so people can know what we have suffered in the past six years," he concluded. 8. ELDERLY MAN DIES IN PETAH TIKVA APARTMENT FIRE by Orly Harari [video:2026850] An elderly man was burned to death on Wednesday morning on Harav Kitroni Street in Petah Tikva. Magen David Adom paramedics arrived on the scene and were forced to declare him dead. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. MDA parmedic Biran Bar said, "There was a fire in an apartment on the third floor of a five-story building. Firefighters worked to put out the fire, and searched for victims as soon as they could. "In the apartment, firefighters found an 82-year-old man who showed no signs of life. "We had no choice but to declare his death." ------------------------------------------------ Subscribe to this Daily Israel Report: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Subscribe/ | |
