ISRAEL LAUNCHES NEW ANTI-ROCKET SYSTEM by Arutz Sheva Staff Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke at Sunday's government meeting about Israel's new "Magic Wand" air defense system. Magic Wand is also known a "David's Sling." "We have an obligation to ensure Israel's security," Netanyahu said. "This obligation means we must work systematically to strengthen Israel's abilities to attack its enemies. In the same way we work to strengthen Israel's defense systems." "This afternoon, the Magic Wand air defense system will become operational. This is an important accomplishment. All Israelis have felt the great benefit of the Iron Dome system, which protects against short-range rockets from Gaza. We have also developed a 'pressure' rocket to defend against long-range missiles, as well as other techniques. "The Magic Wand is a system which works to defend against medium-range rockets, and is of great importance to Israel's security. "I want to praise and thank the Defense Ministry, the IDF, the Research and Development staff, and all the others who worked to make the Magic Wand operational. "Together, we are protecting the home front." 2. PARENTS TO EDUCATION MINISTRY: DON'T SEND OUR GIRLS TO THE IDF by Shlomo Piotrokovsky Dozens of parents whose daughters study in the national religious education system (Hemed) signed a petition calling on Education Minister Naftali Bennett not to allow organizations that try to persuade religious girls to enlist in the IDF to appear before high school students. "These programs convey a lack of trust in the significant contribution made by girls in the Hemed system within the framework of national service, and they contradict the values of Hemed on which the girls' education is based." The Chief Rabbinate, during the terms of both religious Zionist and haredi Chief Rabbis, has unequivocally prohibited women's IDF service since the establishment of the state. National Service was created to form a framework for girls to volunteer to serve Israel after high school in much-needed capacities. Rabbi Moshe Shahor from Sderot, who signed the petition, said: "I have a daughter of high school age, and the Torah-inspired sense of purpose that we want to give to our daughters is opposed to girls serving in the IDF. It cannot be that, in institutions which teach faithfulness to Torah and Torah values, there is encouragement of IDF service for women, which is problematic from the perspective of Jewish law. Most Torah authorities did not allow women to serve in the IDF." The Rabbi added, "There never was a downward spiral like this, and it’s a pity that there are those who are giving in to radical elements trying to change the values of religious Zionism." The Chotam organization said: "from a poll released this week, it turns out that a large majority within religious Zionism supports the significant contribution of girls through national service programs, and sees in this the proper path for a religious girl. We hope that the education ministry will respect the wishes of the parents and not allow the entry of organizations [into the national religious education system] working against their educational worldview. We call on the education ministry to allow for the independence of Hemed, and stop the advancement of attempts to bring in bodies attempting to belittle the contribution of national service and working against the position of parents, towards getting the girls to enlist in the IDF." 3. ISIS' DISCONCERTING INVENTION by Chana Roberts [youtube:2026515] US intelligence and law enforcement agencies believe ISIS, Al Qaeda, and other terrorist organizations have developed ways to plant explosives which can evade standard security screening methods, into electronic devices, CNN reported. US President Donald Trump on March 21 ordered banning travelers flying out of ten airports in eight Middle Eastern and African countries from carrying laptops and other electronic devices larger than a cell phone and to place the devices in their luggage . According to intelligence agencies, these countries presented a greater threat, and the US government has more confidence in screening techniques used in the US and Europe. The eight countries are Egypt (Cairo), Jordan (Amman), Kuwait (Kuwait City), Morocco (Casablanca), Qatar (Doha), Saudi Arabia (Jeddah and Riyadh), Turkey (Istanbul) and the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi and Dubai). Britain implemented a similar ban earlier this month, including two additional countries not on the US list. According to US intelligence officials, detonating an explosive is harder to do remotely, and a device detonated in the cargo section will cause less damage than one detonated in the cabin area. However, cell phones have often been used to remotely detonate explosives, and it is not clear how effective placing the devices in the luggage compartment will be. Secure Point Technologies President Robert Liscouski said, "We don't have the same level of confidence in other areas of the world because we don't have the government bodies and stature to assure compliance." According to CNN, the FBI is concerned the current laptop bombs will be more difficult to detect than previous versions. In a statement, the US Department of Homeland Security said, "As a matter of policy, we do not publicly discuss specific intelligence information. However, evaluated intelligence indicates that terrorist groups continue to target commercial aviation, to include smuggling explosive devices in electronics." "The U.S. government continually re-assesses existing intelligence and collects new intelligence. This allows DHS and TSA to constantly evaluate our aviation security processes and policies and make enhancements when they are deemed necessary to keep passengers safe. "As always, all air travelers are subject to a robust security system that employs multiple layers of security, both seen and unseen." White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said, "Terrorist groups continue to target commercial aviation and are aggressive in pursuing innovative methods to undertake their attacks to include smuggling explosive devices in consumer objects." 4. PRESIDENT RIVLIN MEETS WITH PROCURATOR-GENERAL OF CHINA by Chana Roberts Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on Sunday morning met at his residence the Procurator-General of the People's Republic of China, Cao Jianming. Jianming was accompanied by Israel's Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit. Rivlin welcomed the Jianming saying, "As an Israeli, as a Jerusalemite, and a student of the law, it is a great pleasure to welcome you. "We know your great nation is so important to the whole world, and we are proud of our relationship with China: on a G2G basis, on a B2B basis and between people. We are very honored to have you as our guest. "No one can compete with the combination of China and Israel." Thanking Rivlin, Jianming said, "I cannot agree with you more of the need to strengthen our diplomatic relations and also the relations between our two judicial systems. "We are honored to visit at the invitation of Attorney General Mandelblit – it is our first time in Israel and I wish to express my appreciation and convey the warm regards of President Xi. "We are, I believe, two great nations, and I believe this is because we have known hardship and difficult times but have faced these hardships and - like the Phoenix - risen from the fire to realize better times. "I will work together with Mr. Mandelblit to see how we can strengthen the relations and cooperation between our two countries." The two leaders also speak about the importance of innovation and development in every field, and of the growing cooperation between the two countries, especially following Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's visit to China in March 2017. 5. 'WE'LL KNOW WHAT THE CABINET DECIDED WHEN WE SEE WHAT THEY DO' by Hezki Baruch YESHA Council Vice Chairman Yigal Delmoni spoke to Arutz Sheva about the Cabinet's decision to limit building in Judea and Samaria. The YESHA Council is a council of Jewish communities of Judea and Samaria. "The YESHA Council sees the Cabinet's decision as an end to the discussions about the building freeze in Judea and Samaria," Delmoni said. "The Cabinet decided there was no more building freeze, but set limits that we cannot agree to. "Still, within these limits we can build new homes in Judea and Samaria. We want to hear the freeze has ended, but we also want to see proof on the ground that it has ended. In the areas of construction, planning, and marketing, we will discover what the Cabinet's true decision is. "We are very happy that the Cabinet does not differentiate between building in the settlement blocs and building outside of them. US President Donald Trump's administration also did not bring up the subject. "Today everyone realizes that Judea and Samaria are a part of Israel. I am not sure there is anyone in Israel who differentiates between in the settlement blocs and outside of them. Everyone considers Judea and Samaria to be one large unit. "The government's decision will be tested on the ground. The Civil Administration's Construction Planning Department and the Binyamin Regional Council will need to approve building a new town near Shiloh and Shvut Rachel. "I am sure that within a month and a half, we will be able to place mobile homes on the ground and transfer Amona's residents from the Ofra dormitory they are living in to their new homes. Later, we will also see permanent buildings built for Amona's expellees. "I call on the entire nation of Israel to come on Pesach (Passover) and hike in Judea and Samaria. There are many cultural events and hiking trails for the entire family. We will soon publish a booklet with all of the planned events which will be held in Judea and Samaria. "Leave the traffic jams and come for a trip in Judea and Samaria. Connect to your heritage and the natural beauty of our country." 6. COALITION CHAIRMAN: MK GLICK IS 'MESSIANIC' by Arutz Sheva Staff Coalition Chairman David Bitan (Likud) slammed MK Yehuda Glick (Likud) for his criticism of the PM’s conduct with respect to the coalition crisis and resulting compromise between the PM and Finance Minister Kahlon on the matter of the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (IPBC). What punishment can you impose on a messianic person who only cares about ascending the Temple Mount, and not the Likud or anything else," Bitan said. "You’re making him great even though he isn’t great, just because he posted some Tweet against the Likud and the Prime Minister. We’re talking about a messianic man whom I don’t want to punish - I just don’t want to see him," he continued. In response, Glick posted on his Facebook page, "The last thing that interests me is arguing with somebody from the party. Whoever has been following my activity in the Knesset knows that I am involved in a variety of issues and, in all of them, I am strict about maintaining a respectful dialogue while listening to others." "We were chosen as public servants and, as such, it is expected that we provide answers and explanations. Therefore, a call for answers and explanations is not a problem but rather the most relevant and required thing there is. I am not ashamed of my work on preserving the human rights of Jews on the Temple Mount and in Judea and Samaria communities. It seems to me that we ought to be able to expect respectful dialogue inside our party." Last night, following the announcement of a compromise agreement between the PM and Finance Minister which will leave some of the newly-hired IPBC employees unemployed, dozens of IPBC workers protested outside Bitan’s home in Rishon Lezion, and clashed with him at the entrance to his building, while earlier on Saturday evening hundreds of IPBC workers protested outside the government complex in Tel Aviv. On Thursday, Netanyahu and Kahlon agreed to split the IPBC into two separate corporations, with the IPBC ceding its news division to the Israel Broadcasting Authority whose director will be chosen independently. 7. JORDAN CONDEMNS DECISION TO BUILD NEW JEWISH TOWN by Dalit Halevi The Jordanian government on April 1 publicized a statement in which it condemned the Israeli cabinet's decision to create a new town in Judea and Samaria for those expelled from Amona in February. On Thursday, the Israeli government approved the construction of a new town to house the Amona expellees. The new town will sit on 977 dunams of land. Jordanian Media Affairs Minister and Government Spokesman Mohammad Al-Momani said Israel's decision "constitutes a blatant violation of the Palestinian nation's rights, especially their right to create an independent state on their national land, within their pre-1967 boundaries." Al-Momani also said the Israeli decision harms efforts to renew peace talks, and encourages extremists and terrorists. Building a new town in Judea and Samaria violates international law, he said, and is in direct opposition to UN Resolution 2334, which termed all Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria illegal. Al-Momani called on the international community to condemn "irresponsible" Jewish building in Judea and Samaria, and work to ensure the creation of a Palestinian state whose capital will be eastern Jerusalem. 8. NEW VIDEO DEBUNKS BELIEF THIRD TEMPLE MUST BE BUILT BY MESSIAH by Arutz Sheva Staff [youtube:2026532] The Temple Institute has released the third in its ‘Holy Temple Myth Busters’ series dealing with what it considers a common misconception: That Jewish law requires the anticipated Moshiach (Messiah) to build the Third Temple and that it should not be constructed until he arrives. In the video, Temple Institute Co-founder and International Director Rabbi Chaim Richman highlights the key Torah sources defining the Halakhic (Jewish law) requirements to build the Third Temple in our time and its correlation to the coming of Moshiach. According to Rabbi Richman, "The Holy Temple has become one of the most overly-mystified concepts within Judaism. While Torah scholars and yeshiva students diligently strive to understand every minutia of Torah knowledge, they seem to have relegated the subject of the Holy Temple to the world of the paranormal." "Many prefer to ignore the subject entirely, despite the fact that fully one third of the Torah pertains to the Holy Temple, and clear instructions for its preparation and building are written in black and white. "Not only does the commonly-held belief that we would need Moshiach to build the Third Temple contradict Torah; the notion also alleviates all the Jewish people’s personal responsibility to fulfill one of the most central and important requirements of our faith. "This is why the Temple Institute has summed up decades of research and presented it in a light and easy to understand, six-minute video that will rock the very foundations of the notion that the Holy Temple is beyond our reach." The Temple Institute is the leading center of research and preparation for the Holy Temple. In addition to educational activity focused on the centrality of the Temple Mount and Holy Temple, the Institute has also recreated over 70 sacred vessels for use in the Third Holy Temple. ------------------------------------------------ Subscribe to this Daily Israel Report: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Subscribe/ | |
