'MISSILE STRIKES IN SYRIA A SERIOUS BLOW TO US-RUSSIA RELATIONS' by David Rosenberg The Kremlin blasted US missile strikes Thursday night against a Syrian airbase which Western intelligence officials claim was used as a staging ground for the sarin gas attack outside of Idlib Tuesday which killed as many as 100 people. Overnight, two US guided missile destroyers fired 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at the Al Shayrat airbase in Syria. "A total of 59 [missiles] targeted aircraft, hardened aircraft shelters, petroleum and logistical storage, ammunition supply bunkers, air defense systems, and radars," said Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis. Syrian officials claimed Friday that seven people had been killed in the attack, with another nine wounded. In a formal statement Friday morning, the Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the strikes as an "act of aggression", and warned that the move damaged US-Russian relations. "The very presence of US troops and other countries on the territory of Syria…is a gross, obvious and unwarranted violation of international law." "[This] is a clear act of aggression against a sovereign Syria. US Actions taken today further destroy the Russian-American relations." Earlier this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that no evidence existed linking the Assad regime to the sarin gas attack, calling the accusations "unfounded". Following the strikes, the Kremlin announced it was suspending a 2015 information sharing agreement with the US, intended to prevent accidents between US and Russian forces inside Syria. Prior to the missile strikes, the US notified Russia of the impending attack under the terms of the 2015 memorandum. 2. A HAREDI WRITER'S OPEN LETTER TO ANTI-IDF RIOTERS by Isaac Kohn Dear Yerushalmi Faction member: Let's understand each other before you read any further. I am considered haredi, my children are considered haredi and so are my grandchildren. As such, no one is in a better po‎sition to look carefully at who you are, what you represent, what your goal is and what you are really accomplishing. Basically speaking, let's face it: you are a hooligan, a law-breaker and a wretched model of what a Yeshiva Bochur (yeshiva student, ed.) should not be. How dare you! Your wild and reckless rioting will never result in the army rescinding its draft guidelines. Your ugly shenanigans perpetrated against the rest of the innocent public will only cause the full extent of the law to come crashing down around your ears. And so it should be. And the sooner the better. I always tried to compare 'our' children to those who live in Gaza and the Palestinian Authority-administered territories. I always marveled at the wide schism of normal and human be‎havior exhibited by 'our' children in comparison to the youth across the border. Ours were taught manners, respect, decency, kindness and the relationship between man and G-D. We were taught that as human beings, our lives need to emulate that of the One Above. They, on the other hand, are taught that life has no value, decency is non existent, politeness is a waste of time and their Allah is an angry, blood thirsty deity. And then you came along, exposing yourself to the world as a spoiled, useless piece of work who doesn't care about the rest of society. Just who do you think you are? Your name in Hebrew, Peleg Yerushalmi, using the word peleg, says it all. Peleg means to divide, to split up, to shatter. Shame on you. I've been watching you all these weeks. I saw you following the precepts and orders of leaders who are detached from reality. I noticed that you and your fellow hoods truly believe that the world is yours. You've been blocking traffic, threatening, pushing, kicking and rioting in order to accomplish... what? I watched you and your little brothers, the 8,10,12, and14 year-olds, harass drivers and innocent by-standers only because you don't agree with their attire. You insulted, cursed and physically mauled a woman who happened to walk by while you were displaying your ugliness on the streets of Jerusalem. You disgust me. Shame on you! You are a disgrace. As a haredi, I am telling you that you are an unworthy imitation of a frum [religious] Jew who needs to be taught a swift, harsh lesson. I strongly believe that the army and police are treating you with too much compassion, with kid gloves. I believe the time has come for the authorities to engage you as the terrorist you are. Because you are. It's only a matter of time until the frustration you are creating for drivers by blocking and delaying them will explode in your face. It will only be a matter of time until a frustrated driver runs you down. That anger was demonstrated already in the city of Bnei Brak as a furious driver came out swinging with a stick. How much longer before someone cracks your head? And deservedly, too. In addition to your grotesque be‎havior, you are a total hypocrite. You are demonstrating against the draft because the Torah is what you are concerned about. Right? Not so fast. What you really want is to be left alone to continue on your merry way of doing absolutely nothing with your life. Because you are obviously not learning. Seeing the hundreds of hours you've wasted, learning is the last thing on your mind. How many precious hours, days, weeks have you already squandered in this manner? How many enemies to the Torah way of life have you created during that wasteful time? Can't count, can you? The audacity and ugliness which you portray, have no limits. In your audacious chutzpa you have no qualms about calling our soldiers and police officers the vilest of names. How dare you spit the word Nazi and hurl it at a Jewish son, my nephew, your neighbor? These are the same 'Nazis' – you moron - who'd sacrifice their lives to protect your worthless one. These are the same 'Nazis' who will not hesitate for a second to save you, the one who vilifies them with vile epithets. When you need them, you appreciate their presence and sacrifice, don't you? Shameless ingrate. Were I in a position to do so, I would treat you quite differently, my young idiot. I would give you an hour ultimatum, sixty minutes exactly, to cease and desist and if you don't, I would then follow up with riot-control methods you haven't yet experienced. Believe me, your eagerness to riot and damage and sit in front of cars will quickly dissipate as you and your colleagues disappear like smoke in the wind. And then....I would send my 'Nazis' to knock on your door and your friend's and his buddy.........every single, rioting young man. There will be no more extensions or postponements for you and the rest of your gang. You will be drafted immediately and sent for training, not to be furloughed for the next number of years. You will be cured of your sickness, believe me. And your brother, when he reaches the draft age, will meekly, politely and precisely sign the registration papers without a whimper. That time is coming. Isaac Kohn is SVP of HealthPoint Acquisitions. 3. TRAGEDY IN TEL AVIV by Arutz Sheva Staff A 12-year old boy succumbed to his injuries after being found in critical condition in a burnt out Tel Aviv apartment Thursday night. Magen David Adom paramedics attempted to resuscitate the boy, but were forced to pronounce him dead at the scene. The boy was found in an apartment which was burned in a fire Thursday evening. His 40-year old mother was found beside him. The mother was rushed to the hospital in light condition. According to police, the mother and her son had come to the apartment Thursday morning to clean it following a fire which occurred two days earlier. The circumstances of the boy's death and he mother's injuries remain unclear. When the pair did not return or contact the rest of their family the boy's grandmother went to the apartment to look for them. "In the stairwell, a 12 year old boy lay unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing, as civilians in the area were carrying out resuscitation operations with help from a telephone call from the Magen David Adom emergency center," said MDA spokesman Tomer Gusman. "We gave him medical treatment and carried out advanced and prolonged resuscitation operations, but at the end of [the resuscitation operations] he was pronounced dead. A 40-year old woman who was in a nearby apartment was treated at the site and was evacuated in a stable condition, fully conscious, to Ichilov Hospital." 4. ISRAELI GIRL WOUNDED BY SYRIAN GUNFIRE by Kobi Finkler An Israeli girl from the town of Aloni Habashan in the Golan Heights was wounded Thursday night by gunfire from inside Syria. The girl was evacuated to a local hospital, where she was listed in good condition before being released. Later, after complaining of pains the girl was returned to the hospital. During her stay at the hospital, a bullet was removed from the girl’s back. Authorities say the shot was stray gunfire, not intended to harm Israelis, but rather part of fighting in the Syrian civil war. 5. ORTHODOX RABBI, EDUCATION PIONEER APPOINTED ADVISOR TO FRIEDMAN by Hillel Fendel Rabbi Aryeh Lightstone, an Orthodox rabbi from New York who works in various capacities in Jewish education, has been appointed to serve in an advisory role in the U.S. Embassy in Israel. He will work alongside newly-appointed Ambassador David Friedman, a State Department official confirmed this week. Rabbi Lightstone is currently the Chief Creative Officer and Co-Founder of Mekorot Education – creator and publisher of online Judaic studies courses. The organization's website says its courses are "specifically designed for 21st century learning… anchored in the eternal relevance and critical importance of Judaic studies… Mekorot is making Jewish day school affordability, excellence, and sustainability, a reality of today." The new Embassy advisor served as regional NCSY director in New York for seven years while also serving in a variety of rabbinic roles on Long Island. A graduate of Yeshiva University, he also founded Aleph Beta Academy, the JUMP Leadership initiative, Jerusalem Ambassadors as well as Friday Night Lights – all international ongoing successful programs. Lightstone is said to have connections to both Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Ivanka Trump, US President Donald Trump’s daughter. "Rabbi Lightstone infuses his entrepreneurial spirit in all of his programs," according to the website of the Orthodox Union, which features some of his audio Torah classes. Friedman is reportedly scheduled to arrive in Israel and assume his duties, apparently in Jerusalem, after the Passover holiday, which ends two weeks from now. 6. OUTPOURING OF GRIEF OVER ELHAI'S MURDER by Arutz Sheva Staff Yeshivas and rabbinical organizations expressed their sorrow at the murder Thursday morning of Elhai Taharlev, 20, a resident of the community of Talmon in the western Binyamin region and a combat soldier in the Golani Brigade. Taharlev was murdered in a terrorist car ramming attack at the Ofra Junction. Another soldier was lightly wounded in the attack. Taharlev's father is a well-known rabbinic and educational figure in Israel. "We wish to grant strength to Rabbi Ohad and the entire Taharlev family in this difficult period. We pray for them and hope that they will be comforted in the consolation of Zion and Jerusalem," The Ohr Torah network of religious Zionist educational institutions also released a statement expressing grief over Taharlev's murder. "Our hearts are with our dear friend and colleague, the head of [Ohr Torah's] Midreshet Lindenbaum , Rabbi Ohad Taharlev, his wife Avital, their children, and all of their family members." The hesder yeshiva in Tekoa, which Taharlev attended, released a statement saying: "We mourn the loss of our student, Elhai Taharlev. We send our condolences to his family and to all of Israel. Today, Elhai joins a long line of soldiers who gave their lives for the sanctity of God's name and for the nation and the land, and we pray that he is the last one." The community of Talmon also issued a statement in response to the murder of one of its residents. "On the eve of the Passover holiday, the Taharlev family and, with them, the community members in Talmon, received the tragic news. Dear Elhai of the community was murdered. A talented young man, modest, and very, very loved. The pain breaks the hearts of friends, neighbors, youth group members and all the residents of the community who knew Elhai and loved him." "This is the third neighbor we are losing: Roi Arbel, father of 5; Gil-ad Shaar; and now Elhai Taharlev. All three were murdered in different parts of the Land on their way home, to their families, and were taken from us by evil human beings. Spring blossoms won't comfort us in our great pain. We embrace the family, and ask the Creator of the Universe that he put an end to our sorrows." "We believe that we can overcome our enemies, and that we will." 7. 7 DEAD IN US STRIKES ON SYRIA by David Rosenberg [youtube:2026749] US missile strikes on Syria late Thursday night killed seven and wounded nine, Syrian officials claim. Two guided missile destroyers, the USS Ross and the USS Porter, fired a total of 59 Tomahawk surface-to-surface missiles at the Al Shayrat airbase in Syria, which intelligence officials believe was used as the staging ground for Tuesday’s sarin gas attack on a suburb of Idlib. "A total of 59 [missiles] targeted aircraft, hardened aircraft shelters, petroleum and logistical storage, ammunition supply bunkers, air defense systems, and radars," said Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis. The Syrian military claims seven fatalities have been reported thus far, after another Syrian official reported five deaths earlier Friday morning. Governor of the Homs province in Syria, Talal Barazai, told Russian media Friday morning that seven people had been killed in the missile strikes, including five soldiers and two civilians from a nearby village. A Syrian opposition monitor claimed four soldiers were killed in the attack, including a general. No casualties have been reported among the Russian soldiers serving in Syria. The Kremlin condemned the strikes Friday, calling them "an act of aggression" and a "violation of international law". But the UK said it supported President Trump's "appropriate response", noting the strikes were in direct response to the sarin gas attack on Tuesday, which left as many as 100 dead and hundreds more injured. "The UK Government fully supports the US action, which we believe was an appropriate response to the barbaric chemical weapons attack launched by the Syrian regime, and is intended to deter further attacks," a spokeswoman for the British government said. 8. 'WHERE ARE YOU, ARAB TRAITORS?' by Arutz Sheva Staff [youtube:2026705] Last December, Arab-Israeli journalist Lucy Aharish garnered international attention with a viral video blasting world leaders for their failure to intervene in the ongoing Syrian civil war, which she dubbed a "holocaust". This week, following a deadly chemical weapon attack near the rebel-held city of Idlib that killed over 100, many of them women and children, Aharish took aim at Arab leaders, calling them"traitors" for turning a blind eye to the plight of civilians killed in a war that has raged for six years. ------------------------------------------------ Subscribe to this Daily Israel Report: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Subscribe/ | |
