1. OBAMA TO NETANYAHU: DON'T GO INTO GAZA
by Hezki Baruch

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu revealed in a Knesset meeting that former US President Barack Obama requested Israel not send ground forces into Gaza during 2014's Operation Protective Edge.

The meeting's purpose was to critique how Israel fought Operation Protective Edge, and find how to make the next war better.

Netanyahu related, "I explained to President Obama that if they continue with these ceasefires, we will have no choice but to send in ground forces.

"He told me, 'I am asking you not to send in ground forces.' And I said, 'I will do my best not to send them in, but if this continues, and the tunnel threat continues to threaten us, we will have no choice but to go in.'

"We tried our best to avoid a war in the south. We are facing a very cruel and difficult enemy.

"We wanted to destroy Hamas' infrastructure in Judea and Samaria. This creates instability in Gaza, and Hamas prepared plans to deal with it.

"My goal was to avoid war as much as possible. If we needed to go to war, we wanted to pay the minimum price required. And when I say 'price,' I mean every family's individual price. I know the pain of war. We have an obligation to ensure the price of war is as low as possible."

2. GENDER-SEPARATE CLASSES
by Mordechai Sones

Despite past criticisms, and as part of a plan to integrate haredim into academia, the Higher Education Council plans to open separate classes for women and men on campuses.

According to Wednesday's report in the Haaretz newspaper, the authors of the Higher Education Council program also recommend allowing non-haredi students to study separately.

Members of the Council believe that gender segregation should be expanded even for advanced degrees.

The Council does not hide the possibility that some students who are not haredi will be somewhat miffed, but according to members, the separation plan has many advantages, both academically and socially.

"This model greatly reduces the damage to equality caused by the establishment of separate academic frameworks for the haredi public, and prevents the creation of 'islands' of separation," the Higher Education Council wrote.

Today, it is possible for one to integrate into gender-specific educational programs mainly in special campuses, outside of established institutions, and in preparatory programs, and in several colleges within a main campus. In the past, university leaders criticized the desire to institute such separation in their institutions.

3. THEY WENT TO FIND ANTIQUITIES, AND ENDED UP IN JAIL
by Ido Ben Porat

Israel Antiquities Authority supervisors and Border Police offices on Tuesday night arrested a ring of antiquities thieves who were digging illegally in the Lower Galilee.

The ring was caught in a cave in the Beit Keshet Forest.

Authorities noticed three suspects digging a cave near the Khirbet Devorah archaeological site. They then ambushed and arrested the suspects, catching two of them digging in a pit and the third sifting dirt and keeping watch.

Authorities also confiscated digging tools the group had used.

The three suspects, all in their fifties and residents of the northern Arab village of Daburiyya, were arrested and questioned. The findings of the interrogation will be transferred to the Israel Antiquities Authority attorney for the purpose of filing an indictment.

According to Israel Antiquities Authority Robbery Prevention Department Head Nir Distelfeld, "From previous observations, we know this is not the first time these suspects have visited the place and illegally dug for antiquities. We have recently seen an uptick in the number of people digging illegally in the Daburiyya area, and they have caused much damage to the historical sites in question.

"It's important to emphasize that the chance of finding valuable antiquities at the site is practically zero. However, the damage done to our collective history is irreversible.

"Anyone who is caught will be severely punished," he concluded.

4. US SUMMONS BRITISH 'TERRORIST' BABY
by Chana Roberts

Harvey Kenyon-Cairns is a 3-month-old British infant, but the US Embassy in London suspected him of being a terrorist.

When Kenyon-Cairns' travel documents did not arrive on time for their UK-Orlando vacation, Grandpa Paul Kenyon,62, made what he called an "honest mistake."

While filling out the forms from the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, the elder Kenyon accidentally checked "yes" for the question, "Do you seek to engage in or have you ever engaged in terrorist activities, espionage, sabotage, or genocide?"

Because of the mistakenly checked "yes" box, Harvey's visa was denied and the Kenyon family was forced to take him on a 10-hour round trip to the London Embassy.

The family was then forced to rebook their flights, to the tune of $3,700.

After the interview, the US Embassy cleared Harvey of "all terrorist ties."

Paul Kenyon relates, "I had no idea I had made a mistake on the baby's form until Harvey's travel was refused to the USA. I couldn’t believe that they couldn’t see it was a genuine mistake and that a three-month-old baby would be no harm to anyone.

"I went down with him and his mum and took him in for the interview, but he can't even speak as he's so young. Baby Harvey was good as gold for the interview and never cried once. I thought about taking him along in an orange jumpsuit, but thought better of it.

"They didn’t appear to have a sense of humor over it at all and couldn’t see the funny side. He’s obviously never engaged in genocide, or espionage, but he has sabotaged quite a few nappies in his time, though I didn’t tell them that at the US Embassy.

"It was a very expensive mistake, but I was hoping the US Embassy would realize that it was just a simple error without us having to jump through all the hoops.

"If you were a terrorist, I suspect you’d not be ticking 'yes' on the Esta form anyway."

5. CNN REPORTER ASKS IF IVANKA MISSED WH EASTER DUE TO BEING JEWISH
by JTA

Covering the White House Easter Egg Roll live, CNN reporter John Berman noted that Ivanka Trump was not in attendance. Maybe, he speculated, it was because she’s Jewish.

"I saw Tiffany Trump just there before. Not Ivanka or Jared Kushner. Of course, Ivanka Trump is Jewish," he said during Monday’s festivities. "I don’t know if she’s taking part in the Easter egg roll on the south lawn or not."

The Newsbusters website pointed out Berman’s comment Monday and criticized what it called his "bizarre conspiracy theory" for why Trump, President Donald Trump’s daughter, and husband Kushner were not there.

But not so fast. The political news website Politico reported Sunday that Ivanka Trump and Kushner, both top White House aides, "were spending Passover at the Four Seasons Whistler resort in Canada. It was their second ski trip in the past month."

Monday was the seventh day Passover. So the Trumps may very well have still been on the bunny hill.

Does that count as a Jewish motive for missing Easter?

The president’s grandchildren were at the Easter Egg Roll, according to The New York Times. But the newspaper does not specify which of the eight youngsters were spotted or whether Ivanka Trump’s three offspring were among them.

6. MADRID DEPUTY MAYOR HOSTS ANTI-ISRAEL ACTIVISTS
by JTA

A deputy mayor of Madrid hosted in a municipal space an event honoring terrorists from Hamas and other groups who are imprisoned in Israel.

The event, titled "International Day of Palestinian Prisoners," was hosted Monday at the main municipal space of the district of Retiro in the southeastern part of the center of the Spanish capital and drew harsh condemnations from representatives of the city’s Jewish community, the Libertad daily reported Tuesday.

A poster advertising the event listed Deputy Mayor Mauricio Valiente of the Izquerda Unida far-left party first among four speakers, introducing him by his municipal title and as an expert on human rights.

Another speaker, introduced as a "television journalist and Palestinian former political prisoner," was Mus’ab Muhammad Nimr Bashir, a 36-year-old Gaza native who had admitted to using his position in 2007 with Doctors Without Borders for planning to assassinate an Israeli official together with other terrorists from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

Another speaker, Ana Sanchez De Mera, was introduced as an activist for "the boycott on Israel."

In a statement, the Jewish Community of Madrid wrote that it "views with alarm and consternation" the use of public resources in support of "prisoners, many of whom are imprisoned and convicted in a viable and consolidated democracy of bloody acts of terrorism."

The statement also addressed the involvement of promoters of the boycott against Israel in the event, noting that several Spanish courts, including supreme ones, recently declared it discriminatory.

"The support of the municipality of all the people of Madrid and the use of its space in support of people and organizations who promote the boycott," the community wrote in its statement, is tantamount to "supporting hatred and the destruction of the only Jewish country in the world and its inhabitants."

7. NEW YORK TIMES 'CLARIFIES' GLORIFICATION OF TERRORIST MASTERMIND
by David Rosenberg

The New York Times offered a tepid response Monday evening to an uproar sparked by the publication of an opinion piece by an arch-terrorist responsible for multiple suicide bombings against Israelis, and the whitewashing of the terrorist’s criminal past.

On Sunday, in the midst of the Passover festival, The New York Times published a propaganda piece by Fatah terrorist Marwan Barghouti justifying a hunger strike by jailed terrorists.

In publishing the piece, the Times gave the convicted murderer Barghouti a free hand to spread canards against the Jewish state, justify terrorist activity targeting Israeli Jews, and delegitimize the very existence of Israel.

Like many anti-Israel screeds, Barghouti’s NYT piece describes Israel as a "colonial" power, comparing the Jewish state to apartheid-ridden South Africa and accusing it of various human rights abuses.

Amazingly, however, the Times initially published the piece with no reference to Barghouti’s crimes or his membership in a terrorist organization – a stunning omission given that the focus of the article is his imprisonment.

Instead, the Times described Barghouti as "a Palestinian leader and parliamentarian".

Nowhere did the Times acknowledge Barghouti’s role as a senior member of the Fatah Tanzim terror group, nor his involvement in multiple shooting and suicide bombing attacks which left 26 people dead during the Second Intifada.

While Barghouti portrays his imprisonment as an "arbitrary arrest", calling himself a "victim of Israel’s illegal" justice system, he in fact is serving five life sentences following a 2004 conviction including five counts of murder for terror attacks he directed in 2001 and 2002.

The decision to publish Barghouti’s piece and the failure to reference his crimes drew heavy criticism from Israeli officials.

"This is not a matter of freedom of speech," said Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely. "It is anarchy. When a major newspaper with a reputation for responsible journalism becomes a platform for murderers, it provides legitimacy for terrorism. This is a very disappointing decision by the editors which seriously undermines the credibility of The New York Times."
In response, the Times, rather than retract the piece, merely added an Editors’ Note on Monday, acknowledging that no mention had been made of Barghouti’s conviction.

"This article explained the writer’s prison sentence but neglected to provide sufficient context by stating the offenses of which he was convicted. They were five counts of murder and membership in a terrorist organization. Mr. Barghouti declined to offer a defense at his trial and refused to recognize the Israeli court’s jurisdiction and legitimacy."

8. WATCH: MAN ATTACKS, ROBS BUS DRIVER
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Israel Police are searching for a man suspected of attacking a bus driver in the central city of Yehud.

The man in the video is suspected of attacking a bus driver and stealing money from the bus cash register. Israel Police were called to the scene, but the suspect fled before they arrived, and a search of the area did not yield any results.

The public is asked to help police find the suspect.

Anyone who has seen the suspect, or has information on where he might be, is asked to call 03-5384444 or the 100 police hotline and report.
