2. HEZBOLLAH ORGANIZES MILITARY PARADE IN SYRIA
by Arutz Sheva staff with MEMRI
Tanks, artillery, machine guns and hundreds of armed gunmen took part in a military parade coordinated by Hezbollah in the Syrian town of Al-Kosair marking the "martyrs day".
The MEMRI institute, which follows reports in the Arab press regarding 'martyrs day," reported that this was the first time Hezbollah had held a parade of this size. It explained that the choice of location was because the town was a symbol of the cooperation between Hezbollah fighters and Assad's Syrian army in their fight against rebel groups.
The city had been emptied of its inhabitants in 2013 when it was conquered by Hezbollah and it became an assembly point for fighters before they went to battle in various parts of Syria.
The parade was widely reported on Hezbollah-affiliated websites together with pictures
Tanks, heavy weapons and other armored units took part in the parade. Some Hezbollah brigades which have only recently been formed and belong to a Lebanese division of the organization also participated in the parade, as well as foot soldiers taking part in the Syrian battles.
The Syrian opposition site Orient News was cited by MEMRI as reporting that Lebanese tanks also took part in the parade and the tanks may have reached the Hezbollah through illegal dealings between Lebanese army officers and the Hezbollah. These sources added that if this is indeed true then it will lead to a cessation of all foreign military aid to the Lebanese army.
Moreover MEMRI reported that the event was attended by Hashem Tzafi El-Din, director of the operations committee of Hezbollah, who represented leader Hassan Nasrallah who is considered the commander of all Hezbollah's operations. El-Din spoke about various political and military issues in Syria.
3. SEN. TOM COTTON: REIMPOSE SANCTIONS ON IRAN
by Guy Cohen
[youtube:2021025]
Republican Senator Tom Cotton (Arkansas) said in a Fox News interview that president-elect Donald Trump could reimpose sanctions on Iran. Cotton said that he agreed with Trump that the deal was 'the stupidest deal I have ever seen'.
"Iran has already violated the agreement," said Cotton and added that "the Obama administration admitted just last week that they had once again violated the agreement. Congress in a joint effort with president-elect Trump can reimpose the sanctions on Iran and can work with our allies to reimpose the sanctions. We have a lot of leverage, we have by far the greatest economy in the world."
Cotton said that "we can reimpose these sanctions when there are violations of the nuclear agreement and when there are violations of other obligations like not building ballistic missiles which can reach American troops or our allies and not funding terror of the type which has led to the deaths of hundreds of Americans and not destabilizing the entire region."
Cotton confirmed tha the Trump administration will approach Iran and other adversaries around the world in a much tougher way. Iran has been allowed over the last eight years to run wild. The president focused above all on getting the nuclear deal whatever the terms were and this is one of the reasons why Iran has been destabilizing the entire region. Iran must understand that Donald Trump will be a different kind of president."

6. FBI: CRIMINAL HATE CRIMES AGAINST JEWS ROSE BY 9 PERCENT IN 2015
by JTA
A rise in hate crimes against Muslims and Jews contributed to a 6.8 percent overall increase in 2015 incidents from the previous year, according to the FBI.
Anti-Muslim hate crimes reported to police rose by some 67 percent, to 215 incidents, from the 154 in 2014, the official FBI data released Monday showed. It marks the second highest number of crimes against Muslims since the national statistics began being reported in 1992. The highest number occurred in 2001, the year of the 9/11 attacks, with 481 incidents.
The number of religiously motivated hate crimes was 1,244, some 21.3 percent of the total. Some 53.3 percent of the religiously motivated hate crimes, or 664 incidents, were directed at Jews, who make up less than 2 percent of the population. Crimes against Jews increased by about 9 percent from 2014.
Over half of all hate crime, 3,310 incidents, or 56.6 percent, was committed on the basis of race, with 52.7 percent being anti-black.
The FBI tracks over 30 different types of bias motivations within the categories of race and ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender and gender identity.
Also Monday, the Anti-Defamation League expressed "deep concern" over "ongoing reports" of anti-Semitic and other hate incidents in the wake of the 2016 election results last week.
Its Center on Extremism has been monitoring the proliferation of racist and anti-Semitic graffiti and vandalism across the country, including the use of swastikas and other Nazi imagery including the name of President-elect Donald Trump, as well as reports of assaults and harassment, the ADL said in a statement.
The ADL also established a mechanism in which the public can report anti-Semitic, racist or bigoted incidents, and encouraged social media users to promote the hashtag #ExposeHate.
"Sadly, the contentious tone from the 2016 election has translated into a moment of ripeness for the haters to deface properties across the country with some of the most unsettling anti-Semitic and racist imagery," said Jonathan Greenblatt, the group's CEO. "We must not let this troubling trend of hate define our society, which means that the onus is on our community leaders, religious clergy, elected officials and others to remain vigilant, report incidents when they surface and make clear that this level of vitriol will not be tolerated."
7. OBAMA: GIVE TRUMP A CHANCE
by Ben Ariel
President Barack Obama admitted on Monday that he has concerns about the presidency of Donald Trump, but also urged Americans to give the President-elect a chance.
Speaking to reporters in his first press conference since the elections, Obama said he was certain after meeting Trump last week that his successor "sincere" about being president for all Americans. At the same time he also called on the President-elect to reach out to people who felt anxious after the explosive rhetoric of the campaign, including women and minorities.
"I don't think he is ideological, he is pragmatic in that way and that can serve him well as long as he has got good people around him and he has a good sense of direction," Obama said at the news conference.
He added that he told Trump during their meeting at the White House last week that "gestures matters" when preparing his new administration and stressed the importance of reaching out to groups that opposed him during the tumultuous election.
"It's really important to try to send some signals of unity and try to reach out to minority groups, or women or others that were concerned about the tenure of the campaign," said Obama.
"I think he is coming to this office with fewer set hard and fast policy prescriptions than a lot of other presidents might be arriving with. Do I have concerns? Absolutely, of course I've got concerns. He and I differ on a whole bunch of issues," he admitted.
Obama refused to comment on Trump's appointment of Stephen Bannon as his senior White House policy adviser.
The appointment has come under fire due to Bannon's alleged controversial and anti-Semitic statements, as well as his presidency of the Breitbart news website, which espoused anti-Semitic and nationalist views.
Obama said it would not be appropriate for him to weigh in on all of Trump's appointments because it would be incompatible to his desire to provide a smooth transition of power to his successor.
"I think it is important for us to let him make his decisions. The American people will judge over the course of the next couple of years whether they like what they see," he told reporters.
"This office has a way of waking you up. Those aspects of his positions or his predispositions that don't match up with reality, he will find shaken up pretty quick because reality has a way of asserting itself," added Obama.
8. 'WITHOUT U.S. INFLUENCE, JEWS IN EUROPE COULD BE IN DANGER'

The Conference of European Rabbis on Monday kicked off its annual conference, being held this year in Minsk, Belarus.
Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, President of the Conference of European Rabbis and the chief rabbi of Moscow, spoke to Arutz Sheva on the sidelines of the conference and related to the election victory of Donald Trump in the United States, which he called a "new world order".
"I'm not discussing what Mr. Trump said during his campaign, which might have been a little bit exaggerated. I'm discussing his comments after his election and his phone call with the correspondents of The New York Times," the rabbi continued.
In that conversation, said Rabbi Goldschmidt, Trump indicated that the relations between the U.S. and its allies would change significantly under his presidency and the United States would "demand payment to help other countries to protect themselves."
"If this happens, it means that the whole relationship with the United States, which has for many years expounded the idea of American exceptionalism, if this component is no longer a part of U.S. foreign policy – it will impact the lives of many minorities all over the world," he opined.
Israel "might benefit from a Trump presidency" but "Jews who live as a minority in other countries might have a different view on that," explained Rabbi Goldschmidt. This is because without the influence of the United States, "the situation of the Jews in different countries is going to be much more dependent on their governments, on their societies, and there is going to be much less input from the outside."
He pointed out that Trump's victory has also empowered the radical right in Europe not just with regards to Jews but specifically with regards to anyone viewed as a "stranger".
"These parties were founded by very open anti-Semites with strong ties to Nazi collaborators during World War II, and we are fearful for the position of Jews in Europe once this is the future power of Europe," said Rabbi Goldschmidt.
