1. THE JEWISH WOMAN WHO WAS NEARLY SOLD TO ISIS
by Arutz Sheva Staff
A Jewish woman was reunited this week with her family in the town of Patish in southern Israel after she fled northern Iraq, following threats by her husband to sell her into slavery with the ISIS terror organization.
According to a report by Channel 2, the woman, a member of the Avrahami family, was married to a previously secular Muslim man, who had recently embraced a radical form of Islam – and demanded she do the same.
When she refused to convert to Islam, her husband noted her Jewish roots, and threatened to sell her to ISIS if she would not accept his demand.
"He told me, 'If you don't obey me, I will give you over to ISIS,'" said Liza, a descendant of a Jewish family in Kurdistan. Most of Liza's family moved to Israel in the 1950s.
"He said I was acting like a Jew," she added. "I feared for me life, because he was threatening me that if I didn't act like a Muslim woman and keep the Koran, he would hand me over to ISIS."
"I was terrified because I had seen what they did to the Yazidi women – they kill them just because they aren't Muslims."
Liza fled her home in Iraq, leaving behind her four children, joining a wave of refugees that made their way to Turkey.
Once in Turkey, Liza was able to make contact with her family living in Israel.
After the family turned to the government for assistance, an Israeli official with contacts inside the Turkish government aided her during her stay in Turkey, and ultimately facilitated her move to Israel.
2. 'LIBERMAN'S ANTI-TERROR PLAN WILL HURT YESHA JEWS'
by Hezki Baruch
The leaders of the Knesset's Land of Israel Lobby have made their view clear to Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman that his new "carrot and stick" plan to combat terror in Judea and Samaria also damages the Jewish residents - and is unacceptable in its present form.
In an urgent letter to the Minister sent today (Thursday) by lobby Chairmen MKs Yoav Kish and Bezalel Smotrich, they first note that the general trend signified by the plan is positive.
Yet, they claim, the policy of giving "carrots", especially construction permit benefits, solely to the Arab residents in Judea and Samaria will produce unacceptable gaps between the Arab and Jewish populations.
"As long as the Jewish population in Judea & Samaria continues to suffer freezes on construction that cause a 'silent expulsion' - this in addition to the high price payed in blood - it is unthinkable that 'carrots' in the form of construction plans will be granted exclusively to the Arab population," the lobby chairmen wrote to Liberman.
"We can't allow a situation where Israel launders illegal construction and ends up supporting the takeover plans of [PA Chairman] Mahmoud Abbas and his friends."
Therefore, the lobby Chairmen demanded that the elements of the Defense Minister's plan that include allowing illegal construction the purpose of which is the hostile takeover of Area C lands be removed from the plan immediately.
Davidi Perl, head of the Gush Etzion regional council, addressed the plan this morning, saying: "We welcome the decision by the Defense Minister to grant benefits to those elements in the Arab population that do not support terror, and to take harsh steps against those elements in the Arab population from which terrorists have come in the recent wave of terror.
"We will do whatever we can to assist the Defense Minister in implementing the plan as outlined. However, it's important to make sure that at the same time the Jewish population in Judea and Samaria will receive permits to build in Area C. The government must adopt the Defense Minister's strategy because only this way people will think twice about whether to go out to perpetrate a terror attack, or to go out to look for work in order to live quietly and peacefully."
3. RABBI BERLAND TO REMAIN IN JAIL THROUGHOUT TRIAL
by Ben Shaul
A Jerusalem court ruled Thursday morning that Rabbi Eliezer Berland be held in custody until the end of his trial and will not be released on bail.
Berland, the founder of the Shuvu Banim yeshiva in the Old City of Jerusalem, fled Israel in 2013, spending some three years evading extradition. He was finally taken into custody and flown to Israel in July of this year.
Rabbi Berland has been accused of sexually harassment and assault by a number of women. The allegations first came to light in 2012 in a report by Yisrael HaYom.
In making its ruling, the court found that Berland, who had previously evaded Israeli authorities, was still liable to flee the country. The court added that he also posed a substantial risk to public safety.
Attorneys for Berland have said they will appeal the decision.
4. DISTURBING DISCOVERY: FETUSES FOUND IN RAMLE SCHOOL
by David Rosenberg
A grisly discovery was recently made in a school in the town of Ramle in central Israel.
Fetuses found in a canister in the school's science lab were sent to the pathology department of the Forensic Medicine Institute for assessment.
Disturbing pictures taken of the remains made the identity of the fetuses all but certain, and this week the pathology department confirmed that the fetuses were indeed human.
The fetuses were found in an old science lab in a building no longer used by the school.
The question remains, however, as to how the fetuses were brought to the lab in the first place.
Rabbi Yaakov Roje, the chairman of Zaka's rabbinic committee a forensics expert, was surprised by the revelation, saying the remains must have been brought to the school in the early years of the state.
"Today there's no way that fetuses would be transferred without supervision," he told BeHadrei Haredim. "A long time ago, like 30-40 years ago, less interest was taken in what happened with fetuses that were not alive."
Today, however, such a thing would never occur, added Rabbi Roje.
"Every deceased is transferred for burial by the hospital in an orderly procedure with clear instructions for the Forensic Medicine Institute, or by the Hevre Kadisha [religious burial service]."
"It looks like a very serious case. But it could be that the school got the fetuses many, many years ago from one of the hospitals, and when the school was moved to its new location, they were forgotten."
5. CAMPAIGN EMAIL WARNS OF HARLEM TAKEVOER BY 'GREEDY JEWS'
by Arutz Sheva Staff
A fundraising email sent out by a candidate running for New York City's City Council has sparked controversy amid accusations of anti-Semitism and racial incitement.
The man at the center of the controversy, Thomas Lopez-Pierre, denies claims his campaign's rhetoric is anti-Semitic, prominently featuring a 2014 article on his website entitled "Fighting Jewish Slumlords Isn't Anti-Semitic".
Lopez-Pierre is running for the 7th district seat in the NYC City Council, challenging incumbent and fellow Democrat Mark Levine.
The district, which includes parts of Harlem, is largely African American and Hispanic, and Lopez-Pierre has appealed to tensions over race and religion in his effort to unseat the Jewish incumbent.
Lopez-Pierre has repeatedly cited "greedy Jews" in his campaign, including a fundraising email earlier this month calling on supporters to help "Save Harlem from Greedy Jewish Landlords".
Fourteen elected officials penned a joint letter condemning Lopez-Pierre's use of anti-Semitic imagery in his campaign.
"Your repeated references to 'greedy Jewish landlords' in your most recent email play on a long-established anti-Semitic trope," the letter read in part.
"Your reference to your opponent as the 'only Jewish candidate in the race' and frequent depiction of him in religious garb amount to gratuitous targeting of him based on religion."
"Your divisive efforts have no place in our political culture."
"We call on you to cease this deplorable behavior at once."
In the past Lopez-Pierre drew criticism for his treatment of a state Assemblywoman, whom he allegedly groped. After her allegations, Lopez-Pierre derided her as a "political slut".

6. TRUE REVENGE: TERROR VICTIM GETS MARRIED
by Arutz Sheva Staff
Meir Pavlovsky, who was seriously wounded in a stabbing attack in Kiryat Arba ten months ago, married his beloved, Katya, yesterday in front of the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem.
Last October an Arab terrorist stabbed Pavlovsky (31) in the back several times while the latter was on his way to synagogue in Hevron. He was quickly evacuated to the western gate of Kiryat Arba, where he received medical treatment in the field, and was later transferred to the trauma unit in Sha'arei Tzedek hospital in Jerusalem.
For several long days he fought for his life in the hospital, and when he triumphed and was eventually released, he took Katya to the place where he was stabbed, and proposed to her.
"We're very happy that we've merited building another family in Israel," the groom was quoted as saying in Yediot Aharonot, "this is like our 'little revenge' for the terror we went through. With God's help we'll keep getting stronger.
The wedding was officiated by Rabbi Dov Lior, formerly Rabbi of Kiryat Arba. Also in attendance were MKs Motti Yogev and Yehuda Glick.
Another guest at the wedding was Shuki Gilboa, the member of the security squad in Kiryat Arba who was wounded while neutralizing the terrorist who murdered Hallel Yaffa-Ariel two months ago.
7. ISRAELI CHAMPIONS CRUSHED IN SCOTLAND
by Shai Landesman

Israeli league champions Hapoel Be'er Sheva suffered a potentially fatal blow to its dream of European Champions League (ECL) qualification last night (Wednesday), losing 5-2 to Scottish powerhouse Celtic in Glasgow.
The result means that the Reds from Be'er Sheva must win at least 3-0 in the return leg against Celtic in Be'er Sheva next week in order to advance to the ECL group stage.
The atmosphere around Hapoel was confident entering the match, as the team was coming off a mightily impressive defeat of the heavily favored Olympiakos in the previous round of qualification, but things went terribly wrong very quickly in Glasgow as Tom Rogic opened the scoring for the home team in the 9th minute.
Lee Griffiths then grabbed two goals of his own just before halftime, with a powerful header in the 39th minute joined by a sublime free kick in the 45th, to make the score a whopping 3-0 at the half.
Yet Be'er Sheva managed to claw their way back into the game, getting two goals from newly acquired Striker Lucio and Maor Melikson within two minutes of each other (55, 57) to cut Celtic's lead to 3-2.
If Hapoel had managed to keep that scoreline until the end of the game, it would have been considered an excellent result, especially considering the circumstances, and would have put them in reasonable position to advance next week, but it was not to be.
Goals from French Forward Moussa Dembele (not to be confused with the Belgian player of the same name) in the 73rd minute, and Scott Brown in the 86th, capped a crazy game and pushed Hapoel to the brink of elimination.
Be'er Sheva coach Barak Bachar lamented the result after the game, but refused to give up hope: "When you come to play a team like this, in a stadium like this, and you start soft like we did, you pay. Next week we don't have a great chance but it's possible. We will try to do the unbelievable."
Even if Hapoel can't achieve the unbelievable and get knocked out next week, they may take solace in the fact that their European season will not be over, as they will still take part in the group stage of the second-tier Europa League, a privilege they guaranteed themselves of by reaching this advanced stage in ECL qualification.
8. WOUNDED SYRIAN BOY BECOMES LATEST SYMBOL OF CIVIL WAR
by David Rosenberg
[youtube:2018281]
Footage released by opposition forces in Syria has again captured the attention of the West, going viral on social media outlets like Twitter and Facebook.
The video, taken of five-year old Omran Daqneesh, shows the child in an ambulance after he was recovered from the rubble of a building destroyed in a recent air raid in the northern Syrian town of Aleppo.
Bloodied and covered in dust, the images of Daqneesh have drawn parallels to pictures of Alan Kurdi, a three-year old Kurdish child from Syria who drowned in the Mediterranean last September.
Photographs of Kurdi's body on a Turkish beach drew worldwide attention to the refugee crisis, and was instrumental in the policy shift in many Western countries vis-à-vis Syrian and Iraqi refugees.
