1. FRANCE: MUSLIM STABS CHABAD JEW
by Rachel Kaplan
A Chabad hassid was stabbed on Friday afternoon by a Muslim man in Strasbourg, France.
Hatzalah volunteers called to the scene treated the wounded man, who was reportedly stabbed in the stomach, then transferred him to the hospital in moderate condition.
Police believe the stabbing was an anti-Semitic attack. One report indicates that the police have arrested the stabber, and brought him in for questioning.

Reports indicate the Muslim screamed "Allahu Akhbar" when he committed the attack.
Strasbourg and the surrounding areas are home to around 15,000 Jews, roughly five percent of the population.

This is a developing story.
2. WATCH: HAMAS OUTLINES 'DEADLY AMBUSH' ON IDF IN 2014
by Dalit Halevi
[youtube:2018310]
The Al-Qassam Brigade, Hamas' military wing, has published a documentary detailing the planning and execution of a road-side ambush of IDF forces in the Al-Zana eastern region of Khan Younis on July 7, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge.
In the video clip, titled "Deadly Ambush," claims that one of the Hamas fighters managed to set and explode a bomb next to an IDF bulldozer.
According to Hamas, Hamas fighters exploded three roadside bombs and shot 4 RPG bombs at the Israelis, damaging the bulldozer, two tanks, and an APC.
The fighters were able to close in on IDF positions thank to tunnels dug by Hamas. The terrorists were in the tunnels for days, where they received supplies and the necessary weapons, and where they escaped upon the completion of their mission.
Hamas continues to dig tunnels in the areas along the Gaza Strip as part of its "defense and security," some of which enter Israeli territory and are used for terror attacks.
3. 52 COMBAT SOLDIERS FORCED TO SHAVE
by Ido ben Porat
52 religious soldiers have been ordered to shave as a condition for them to return to their homes over the weekend.
According to Arutz Sheva, out of 67 religious soldiers that drafted recently to the combat engineering corps, only 15 received an allowance to grow their beards. Jewish law prohibbits a man from shaving his face with a razor, and many religious men retain a beard for cultural and religious reasons.
One of the soldiers protested, "I learned in a yeshiva high school, I have been growing a beard for most of my life for religious reasons which I believe in. This morning, they announced that anyone who didn't get a temporary beard permit at Bakum [intake center] has two options - to stay on base for the weekend, or shave their beard and go home.
"I was in shock. Why are they forcing a teenager to choose between two values which I believe in?! One is growing a beard, and the second is honoring parents. Why do I need to 'surprise' my parents over the phone, by telling them that I will not arrive home for shabbat, after we haven't seen each other for two weeks? I felt a great injustice, and I began to cry.
In the end, the soldier decided to shave, in his words, with a heavy heart and a lot of tears. "I am certain everyone who was around me saw my pain at the decision. How can we push someone to give up on what he believes Last time that happened, it was 70 years ago in Europe. There they cut beards, there they tore out sidelocks. I went home healthy and hole, but with a broken heart."
Army sources explained its rule over whether it will reject a beard: religious soldiers who enter the army with a thick beard can keep it during their service for religious reasons.
However, in light of recent Army strictures that seek to reduce the number of so-called "beard permits" for religious soldiers, it appears that a stubble no longer - as it were - makes the cut.
The disciplinary action against the religious soldiers comes against a backdrop of more overt discrimination against religious soldiers recently.
A new organization established this week, "One Command," calls on soldiers who keep their traditions to submit complaints if they encounter religious problems in the IDF. "These past years, we have been witness to hundreds of incidents, wherein soldiers were forced to act against their consciences and against their rights," the organization's founders explained.
"The changes that the IDF has undergone in past years led more than once to conflicts which had not existed in the past. More than once, lack of attention caused many hang-ups. 'One Command' has made it its mission to deal only with the situations which are not resolved by normal IDF channels."
Rabbi Rafi Foyerstein, a rabbi of Tzohar, attacked the new organization, saying, "I see a lot of...hatred and mistrust. I hear of a new informer hotline against the IDF. What is this? Who needs this?
"Are there no military rabbis to speak to? Are there no heads of hesder yeshivas? This is another little stab at the story of the IDF," the rabbi said to Arutz Sheva.
(Editor note: Staff at Arutz Sheva personally know cases where religious IDF trainees were denied access to the military rabbi on base for weeks on end. It is unknown whether this is a common phenomenon.)
4. GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER OF RABBI SHTEINMAN DROWNS, PASSES AWAY
by Rachel Kaplan
After two week of doctors fighting for her life, one year-old Miriam Eidel Berlin, who had drowned in the bathtub in her Jerusalem home, passed away.
The one-year-three-month-old is the great-granddaughter of leader of Lithuanian Jewry, Rabbi Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman, who resides in Bnei Brak, near Tel Aviv.
According to Hadrei Haredim, last Wednesday evening, the little girl drowned in the bathtub in her home on Eretz Hefetz Street in the Maalot Dafna neighborhood of Jerusalem.
Hatzalah medical volunteers and MDA emergency personnel worked to revive the toddler, who had lost consciousness. Since then, doctors have been fighting for her life.
On Thursday night, though, at around 8:00 p.m. Israel time, she passed away.
Her father is the son of Rabbi Shteinman's son-in-law, Rabbi Ze'ev Berlin, who runs the yeshiva Gaon Yaakov. She was the third child of the family, and is survived by her brother and sister.
Jerusalem police report that negligence is still suspect. The parents have been questioned, and the investigation is ongoing.
5. BY THE NUMBERS: US IMMIGRANTS SUPPORT TRUMP POLICIES
by Arutz Sheva Staff
A new Morning Consult poll, conducted online from August 16-17, indicates that immigrants and immigrant famillies have a higher support for Trump immigration policies than the rest of the US population. The poll registered the opinions of 2,001 participants, and has a margin of error of 2 points.
By the numbers:
Immigrants, along with the rest of the US, like Trump's proposal to have all foreigners entering the US to take an ideological test on American values. In real numbers, that added up to around 61 percent. Around 26 percent of immigrants opposed it, in similar numbers to non-immigrants.
Immigrants, children of immigrants, and grandchildren of immigrants also matched non-immigrant Americans in supporting a temporary ban on people entering the US from high-terror countries. New immigrants were least likely to back the proposal at 52 percent supporting, and 39 percent against. First-generation Americans peaked at 68 percent support, as compared to the general electorate (59 percent), with only 22 percent of the generation opposing it, as compared to 27 percent of general voters.
59 percent of second-generation Americans are in favor of the proposal, versus 32 percent who reject it. Third-generation Americans backed it 55 percent to 34 percent.
Immigrants were several points more likely than the general electorate (42 percent) to follow Trump's call to end "nation-building." 47 percent of recent immigrants, 49 percent of first-generation Americans, 42 percent of second-generation Americans, and 44 percent of third-generation Americans all supported the initiative.
Immigrant families also topped US voters in support of US joining with Russia to fight ISIS. While 64 percent of all voters back the plan, 73 percent of first generation, 66 percent of second generation, and 68 percent of third generation Americans approve of the idea. Of actual immigrants, though, only 62 percent thought Trump's plan was a good idea.
The border wall was the only polled issue where immigrants were less supportive of Trump. Voters generally are split at 43 percent over the building of a wall along the Mexican border. Half of recent immigrants oppose the idea, 46 percents of first generations, and 48 percent of second and third generation Americans also reject the idea.
6. JERUSALEM PLANS SHOPPING, ENTERTAINMENT ALONGSIDE HAREDIM
by Arutz Sheva Staff
Haredi leaders are concerned for the character of their neighborhoods, as the city of Jerusalem unrolls a "facelift" plan to install shopping centers, student dormitories, and towers along the route of the Jerusalem Light Rail.
"When they create an urban upgrade like this, it may harm the modest lifestyle of tens of thousands of haredi residents who are on the seam of the haredim," write the rabbis in the haredi Hamevaser.
Haredim usually choose to create enclave communities, in order to preserve a unique Torah culture. According to the rabbis of the neighborhoods bordering the light rail, "the establishment of such busy centers, markets, and entertainment along with a leisurely and academic lifestyle, within walking distance of haredi neighborhoods creates a spiritual danger for our souls and for our children's souls."
The rabbis have called on the city municipality to consider their needs, and try to intervene in the plan's for the capital's light rail system.
7. PLANE WITH TIRE MALFUNCTION LANDS SAFELY AT BEN GURION AIRPORT
by Rachel Kaplan
A state of emergency was declared at Ben Gurion Airport on Thursday night when an UP plane carrying 182 passengers experienced technical difficulties and was ordered to land at the airport as soon as possible.
Ambulances and MDA mobile medical units waited along the runway in case of a medical emergency during the landing.
The plane landed safely shortly after midnight. There were no reports of injuries among the passengers.
After the plane took off from Israel for Kiev, wheel parts were discovered on the runway. The incident is being investigated by airport authorities.

8. MACCABI TEL AVIV SALVAGES WIN FOR ISRAELI SOCCER
by Shai Landesman

Maccabi Tel Aviv took a step towards qualifying for the Europa League group stage last night (Thursday) when they defeated Croatian team Hajduk Split 2-1 in their "home" leg in Netanya.
Tel Aviv are playing their home games in Netanya this year due to renovations in Bloomfield stadium in Tel Aviv.
Gal Alberman opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a long-range effort, getting the yellow and blue from Tel Aviv off to a good start, which was maintained until the half.
It didn't take long in the second half for the Croats to find an answer though, and Striker Ahmed Said equalized in the 57th minute after a series of mistakes by the Tel Aviv defense, scoring what may yet prove to be a crucial away goal.
Maccabi rallied and produced a winner through new Argentine Striker Oscar Scarione in the 76th minute, with the assist coming from star winger Tal Ben-Haim, who will miss next week's return leg in Croatia through yellow cards.
Though Tel Aviv will be pleased with the victory - especially in a week in which both Hapoel Be'er Sheva and Betar Jerusalem registered ignominious defeats - they find themselves in a somewhat precarious position going into next week, as they did give up the away goal. If each team wins one out of the two games in a two-leg tie, and they both scored the same amount of goals overall, the team with more away goals advances.
This means that if Maccabi loses 1-0 in Croatia next week, they will be eliminated. Still, the yellow and blue will be confident of its ability to score an away goal of its own - preferably early in the game - which will put it in the drivers seat to ensure European soccer for the club will continue deep into the season.
