1. IRAN RELEASES IMAGES OF NEW MISSILE DEFENSE SYSTEM
by Netanel Katz

Iran has released the first photos of its home-made air defense system, nicknamed "Bauer 373."

According to Iran, they developed the system as an alternative to the Russian S-300 surface-to-air missile system, which they never received as a result of international sanctions imposed on Iran in 2010.

Iranian media released photos taken during an official ceremony, when the system was presented to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Iranian media reports that this is the first time photos have been released of the system.

2. TEENS ATTACK POLICE AT 'DRAFT PARTY'
by Rachel Kaplan

Last night, police were called to the Mevaseret Tzion industrial zone, northwest of Jerusalem, for a noise complaint. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered dozens of teenagers throwing a "draft party," many of whom were drunk.

Israelis have a social custom of throwing a party right before they are drafted into the IDF, as a send-off and celebration with their friends.

When the police arrived, several youths stood at the entrance of the party, several of whom were drunk, and gathered around them, cursing and threatening the police officers. Some of them pushed and attacked the police, in an attempt to prevent them from entering the premises.

The police arrested seven youths at the scene, including one girl, a 17 year-old minor, and the host of the party, who was supposed to turn up at the draft office the next morning.

When they finish their investigation, police will bring the detainees to court to extend their arrests.

3. AMERICAN ZIONIST HONORS NETANYAHU - WITH A GROVE OF TREES
by Baruch Gordon

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently received an unusual expression of appreciation: a plaque indicating that a grove of 1,000 trees had been donated in his honor. The gift was from So.

Florida resident Sheryl Silver, a former national secretary of the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) and founder of the Enough is Enough Initiative.

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan by Michigan ZOA leaders, Dr. Israel Walter and Anne Gonte Silver, (who joined as college students during World War II), Silver says she grew up not only caring deeply about Israel and making periodic trips to Washington, D.C. to advocate on Israel's behalf but being an "avid Bibi fan."

In the letter to PM Netanyahu included with the plaque, Ms. Silver noted that she remembered meeting the Prime Minister whenever he came to Michigan to speak at ZOA events and was always inspired by his remarks.

That inspiration has never waned. Whether listening to his remarks at the UN on television or live at last year's Jewish Federations of North America General Assembly, Silver said in her letter: "You always strike the right tone, address the critical issues and leave those of us who appreciate you motivated and inspired."

Although Silver's parents are no longer alive, she continues their commitment to Israel advocacy not only through ZOA but also through her support of Stand With Us, CUFI, Yad Ezra V'Shulamit and other groups. Like her parents, trips to Washington, D.C. and Capitol Hill, in particular, remain a key part of her activism.

Asked why she opted for a grove of trees for the Prime Minister, she said, "There didn't seem to be a better way to say 'Thank You.' The trees will be a part of Israel for decades to come."

The text on the plaque reads as follows:

4. WATCH: TURKEY BOMBING CAPTURED ON VIDEO
by Arutz Sheva Staff

The death toll from the suicide bombing in a wedding hall in the Turkish city of Gaziantep last night (Saturday) has risen to 50.

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the terror attack was most probably perpetrated by ISIS, though the group has not yet claimed responsibility.

Erdogan further said that ISIS is "no different" from the religious organization headed by exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen, whom Turkey is trying to extradite from the US on suspicion of having orchestrated last month's failed coup against Erdogan.

Earlier reports had suggested the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) may have carried out the attack.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the bombing is still ongoing.

5. WOMAN DIES SUDDENLY A DAY BEFORE SON'S WEDDING
by Chaim Lev

24 hours before her son's wedding, Yocheved Hanna Gottleib, a member of the Gerrer hassidic community in Jerusalem, went into cardiac arrest, collapsed and died. She was 66.

Family members said that while she was struggling for her life last night (Saturday), a Rabbi who was consulted by the family said that the wedding ceremony should be held as soon as possible. Tragically, the mother passed away while final preparations were being made to hastily conduct the wedding.

The late Gottleib was a well-known figure in the Har Nof neighborhood of Jerusalem, where she lived. She ran a clothing store in the Geula section of downtown Jerusalem for many years.

Her funeral will take place today (Sunday), leaving from her home in Har Nof.

6. MAN INDICTED FOR FUNNELLING HAMAS FUNDS TO TERRORIST FAMILIES
by Rachel Kaplan

Prosecutors have indicted Saif Al-Din Abed Al-Nabi, 39, a resident of Jerusalem, on charges of contacting a foreign agent, and smuggling Hamas compensation money to the families of terrorists.

Al-Nabi is accused of smuggling Hamas money given to him by Zachria Najib, who was released during the Shalit deal, and is currently residing in Turkey.

According to the indictment, Najib approached Al-Nabi eight months ago, and asked him to be a courier for Hamas funds from Turkey to terror families. The two had had previous friendly contact.

Al-Nabi, who owns a women's clothing chain with branches in Jerusalem in Istanbul, supposedly transferred some $25,000 worth of cash, hidden on his person, in cell phones, or in clothing bags, to families of terrorists inside Israel. The money was handed over in public locations.

7. EXCAVATIONS IN GALILEE REVEAL 2,000 YEAR-OLD STONE FACTORY
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Archaeological excavations conducted in Galilee in early August, under the direction of Dr. Yonatan Adler of Ariel University, have unearthed a 2,000 year-old cave which functioned as a quarry and industrial workshop for the production of stone vessels. The large subterranean cavern, hewn into a chalkstone hillside, was discovered at a site named 'Einot Amitai near Nazareth in northern Israel. The cave yielded numerous remains of stone vessels in various stages of production, attesting to a thriving industry.

In ancient times, most tableware, cooking pots and storage jars were made of pottery. In the first century of the Common Era, however, Jews throughout Judea and Galilee used tableware and storage vessels made of soft, local chalkstone. The reason for this curious choice of material seems to have been religious; according to ancient Jewish law, vessels made of stone can never become ritually impure, and as a result ancient Jews began to produce their everyday tableware from stone.

"Stone vessels played an integral role in the daily religious lives of Jews during this period" explains Adler, an archaeologist specializing in ancient Jewish ritual law. "It was a Jewish 'Stone Age' of sorts".

The practice is mentioned prominently in the Wedding at Cana narrative in the Gospel of John, where the water-turned-to-wine is told to have been held in six jars made of stone: "Now there were six stone water jars set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing twenty or thirty gallons each" (John 2:6).

A tantalizing link to the Gospel narrative lies in the location of the cave just south of the modern town of Kafr Kanna, identified by many scholars as the site of Biblical Cana. Adler, accepts the possible connection of the cave he is excavating with the Biblical account:

"The Evangelist was clearly familiar with the fact that Jews were using stone vessels for ritual purposes" he notes. "It is certainly possible – perhaps even likely – that large stone containers of the type mentioned in the Wedding at Cana story may have been produced locally in Galilee in a cave similar to the one we are now excavating".

Dr. Dennis Mizzi of the University of Malta, who joins Adler in directing the dig, notes however that so far remains of only mugs and small bowls have been uncovered in the cave:

"Fragments of large jars have not been unearthed" he stresses.

While fragments of stone vessels have been found in the past at numerous Early Roman period sites throughout Israel, and two workshops are known from the Jerusalem area, this is the first time that full-scale excavations are conducted at a stone vessel production site in Galilee.

Our Soldiers Speak (O.S.S.) is an organization which gives a platform for the IDF and the Israel Police to be heard internationally.

O.S.S. sends active representatives of both security organizations to campuses worldwide, where they address the lies often spread in the common culture and media about their activities .

O.S.S. also brings IDF and police senior officials together with members of the US Congress and Senate to cover leading security issues and to hold strategic policy and security briefings.

Our Soldiers Speak is now working to combat ignorance by introducing more rigorous knowledge of Israel's history and culture into Jewish high schools throughout the US, as well as informal courses open to the public. Their O.S.S. Educate program is currently accessible to more than 3,000 students across the US.
