Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated that the terrorist who killed four soldiers in a ramming attack in the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood of Jerusalem Sunday afternoon was inspired by the ISIS terrorist organization.
"We are here after a brutal terrorist attack in which four soldiers tragically murdered, [[including] three women and one man. We know the identity of the perpetrator, who by all indications is a supporter of the Islamic state. We have placed a closure on the Jabal Mukaber neighborhood from which he came, and we are doing other things which I will not detail here." Netanyahu said in a statement in Hebrew,
He said that there may be a connection between today's ramming attack and other ISIS-inspired ramming attacks in Europe. "I have just come from a discussion with the Defense Minister, the Chief of Staff, the head of the Shin Bet, and others, about the appropriate action [we should take in response]. We know that there is a succession of attacks [around the world], and it could well be that there is also a connection between them, from France and Berlin, and now Jerusalem. We are fighting this scourge, and we're going to [defeat] it."
"I would like to express my condolences to the families, and of course wishes for recovery to the injured. We will overcome this as wehave overcome other terrorist attacks. There are a number of actions that we do not we will detail them now, we will have to do to ensure that such incidents do not recur, we will be able to stop them when there are [terrorist] attempts such as this." he said.
2. I DON'T KNOW WHY 40 SOLDIERS DIDN'T SHOOT THE TERRORIST'
by Arutz Sheva Staff
The IDF announced that it is investigating why so many soldiers fled the scene of the terror attack in Jerusalem Sunday afternoon and did not try to eliminate or apprehend the terrorist.
Four people were killed and at least fifteen wounded when a terrorist drove a truck into a group of soldiers at the Haas Promenade in the Armon HaNatziv neighborhood of south Jerusalem.
There were hundreds of soldiers in the area when the attack occurred, about to take part in an educational program about Jerusalem as part of their training. The promenade overlooks the historic City of David. Surveillance footage showed many of the soldiers running away from the scene after the attack began.
The Commander of Base 1, where the soldiers had come from, Col. Yaniv Elalouf, arrived at the scene to investigate the sequence of events.of the attack.
Tour Guide Ethan Rond, who shot and killed the terrorist who carried out the ramming attack, told Army Radio that he was shocked that none of the soldiers reacted by shooting the terrorist.
"I do not know why 40 soldiers did not open fire. I have no doubt that if they had opened fire immediately, we would have had fewer injuries." Rond said.
MK Amir Ohana (Likud) praised Rond's actions in shooting the terrorist. "Of particular note is the fact that a citizen, a tour guide, was the first to shoot the terrorist to prevent the attack from continuing. He joins a growing list of civilians who have stopped trror attacks during this terror wave. I will continue to push and encourage law-abiding citizens to carry arms and to back those who do so according to the law. "

Cadet "T" who shot at the terrorist who carried out a truck ramming attack in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Armon Hanatziv Sunday, told Arutz Sheva what happened during the attack.
"We were in a patrol with the team, we were standing at a place with a view of Jerusalem, we heard a boom, we turned around and saw a truck that ran the sidewalk and crushed a number of cadets. We initially thought it to be an accident, but after seeing that the driver did not stop, we understood that this was an attack. We ran towards the truck, I loaded the rifle, cocked it, and shot." he said.
4. 'WE WILL WORK WITH TRUMP ON PRO-ISRAEL UN RESOLUTION
by Yoel Domb
Deputy Israeli FM Tzipi Hotovely said that the Israeli government is in contact with the incoming Trump administration regarding the formulation of an American-proposed UN Security Council resolution that would "recognize Israel's right to build in the Judea and Samaria regions as long as there is no peace deal" with the Palestinians Arabs.
Hotovely said that "the recent Security Council decision was very bad and put Israel in a weak position . Incoming President Donald Trump has made clear he does not plan to force agreements on us. Also, he has given us two promises. One is moving the US embassy to Jerusalem and we believe this will lead to other embassies being moved to Jerusalem. The second is the US will veto any anti-Israel matter. For us, this is a great deal."
Meanwhile, Israel also announced on Friday it will suspend a "significant portion" — totaling around $6 million — of its annual contributions to the UN for 2017 in protest of the approval of the anti-Israel resolution.
Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said that "It is unreasonable for Israel to fund bodies that operate against us at the UN." He added that "The UN must end the absurd reality in which it supports bodies whose sole intent is to spread incitement and anti-Israel propaganda."
"Now is the time to implement real change at the UN," Danon continued. "We seek to stop the practice where the UN is used solely as a forum for unending attacks against Israel."
The funding cut, according to a statement published by the Israeli UN delegation, "represents the portion of the UN budget allocated to anti-Israel bodies" — including the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People; the Division for Palestinian Rights; the work of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories; and the Special Information Program on the Question of Palestine of the UN Department of Public Information.
Moreover Hotovely announced that she plans to investigate the activities of the 15 UN facilities operating within Israel in order to determine whether to allow them to continue to receive funding and to maintain the use of their buildings in Israel.
5. FORMER DEFENSE MINISTER: THIS IS A BLOOD LIBEL
by Uzi Baruch
Former Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon (Likud) spoke on Saturday evening about Elor Azariya's conviction.
"Politicians are brainwashing the public to blame IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot and myself," Ya'alon said.
Ya'alon was forced to step down from his position as Defense Minister after he unjustly expelled Hevron residents from their homes and compared Azariya to ISIS.
"My heart is with the Azariya family, and with Elor," Ya'alon told Channel 2. "I did not decide Azariya's fate."
Ya'alon said Azariya's case was decided even before footage from the Hevron terror attack became public, and that the government was forced to declare an investigation to prevent the media from publicizing the matter further. He also said the only time he interfered was to ask if Azariya had to wear handcuffs, or if it was possible to remove them.
However, Ya'alon did not mention pardoning Azariya.
"This isn't the place to discuss it, and there are rules," he said.
He also addressed the Azariya family, saying, "They've brainwashed you politically, and they're telling you lies. Don't appeal the verdict, it's a waste of your time and it will cost you your health. Elor needs to admit he made a mistake, express regret for his actions, and then they'll be considerate [when sentencing him]."
6. "YEDIOT AHARONOT" PUBLISHER AT CENTER OF NETANYAHU AFFAIR
by Mordechai Sones
Allegedly, new information about the conversation at the center of the "2000 Affair" involving Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, the existence of which was revealed this morning (Sunday) by the newspaper Haaretz, was reported a short time ago on Channel 2.
According to the report, the said recording contains a conversation between the Prime Minister and businessman Arnon (Noni) Mozes, publisher of the newspaper Yediot Aharonot.
It is not clear exactly when the call was recorded or what is said in it, but at the center of the conversation was the newspaper Yisrael Hayom, a daily freebie which has severely cut into the revenues of Yedioth Ahronoth. Circumstantial evidence places the alleged conversation sometime at the beginning of Netanyahu's second term, in 2009.
According to the Maariv newspaper, anti-Netanyahu broadcaster Amnon Abramovich said that "on the eve of the 2009 elections he [Netanyahu] was sitting with an acquaintance and asked him 'Do you have influence on Noni Mozes? Find out whether if I close the newspaper [Yisrael Hayom], it would change the relationship with him."
The recorded conversation was supposed to yield the Yediot publisher a significant financial advantage, and in return Mozes was to change the rejectionist line that Mozes' newspaper led against the Prime Minister. Yisrael Hayom is pro-Netanyahu and funded by Sheldon Adelson, a good friend of the prime minister, and is largely felt to have begun publication to counter the anti-Netanyahu stance of Yediot.
Maariv conjectures that perhaps Moses and Netanyahu discussed payment for the paper's closure, which was expected to generate significant amounts for Moses. In return, Yediot Ahronot was supposed to change its policy towards the Prime Minister, they surmise. Channel 2 news conjectured that in the case of an indictment, Moses would be a witness for the prosecution and Netanyahu would be the defendant.
Police and prosecution believe that the conversation contains criminal elements, but the State Attorney and the Attorney General are not sure.
At a meeting of Likud ministers this morning the Prime Minister discussed Haaretz's reports according to which he was confronted during his second interrogation with sound recordings in which he speaks with the businessman: "Unfortunately I cannot give details. What I can tell you today is that I know what is being discussed, and I tell you this with confidence: there will be nothing because there is nothing," said Netanyahu.
"What we have here is unacceptable and constant pressure from the media on law enforcement officials. They fly balloons that lose their hot air one by one. That's what will happen in this case. I suggest to my colleagues in the opposition - do not celebrate because there is nothing to celebrate. The way to change the government is by means of the ballot box," the prime minister stressed.
7. ISRAELIS RALLY FOR UNITY AFTER SOLDIER'S MANSLAUGHTER VERDICT
by AFP
Israelis on Saturday answered a wounded army veteran's call for a show of unity after the deeply divisive manslaughter conviction of Elor Azariya, the soldier who shot killed a terrorist thought to have a suicide vest.
Israeli public radio said about 1,500 turned up at Tel Aviv's Rabin Square after a moving Facebook appeal by reserve Captain Ziv Shilon who was seriously injured in 2012 when a terrorists detonated a roadside bomb while he patrolled near Gaza..
"Tonight, right, center or left we are together," he wrote on Saturday, before the evening rally.
Shilon said he was appalled at the wave of hate unleashed in the wake of Wednesday's guilty ruling in the case of soldier Elor Azariya.
Immediately after the verdict dozens of Azariya supporters scuffled with police.
The following day police arrested two people after death threats emerged online against a military judge and other officials.
Another two, both minors, were arrested on suspicion of daubing graffiti, including calls to kill Arabs and police officers.
Israel's military has assigned bodyguards to all three judges who convicted the 20-year-old French-Israeli.
"I feel that our people are divided, hurting, hating, disappointed, desperate," Shilon posted in the early hours of Thursday.
"I - who did not cry at moments that were so hard that I would not wish them on anyone - today I just cried," he wrote. "I cried for the hands I left behind in Gaza and I asked myself, perhaps
for the first time, was it worth fighting for a people that hates itself?"
Right-wing politicians - including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - have already called for Azaria to be pardoned, although he has yet to be sentenced and his lawyers may appeal.
Azariya faces up to 20 years in prison.
IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot has reportedly been targeted with threats, with some Azariya supporters suggesting he would join Rabin - a reference to the 1995 assassination of former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin by a Jewish extremist.
Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein (Likud) said a number of officials had also been targeted online, an army spokeswoman said.
A poll by Israel Hayom found that around 70 percent of Israelis favor a pardon for Azariya.
8. PM ARRIVES AT SCENE OF JERUSALEM RAMMING ATTACK
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman arrived at the scene of Sunday's terrorist attack at the Haas Promenade in the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood of southern Jerusalem Sunday afternoon.
Netanyahu and Liberman refused to answer questions from reporters at the scene.
The Prime Minister connected the attack with the ISIS terrorist organization. "According to all the signs, the terrorist was a backer of Islamic State," he said at the scene of the attack.
At approximately 1:00 PM a terrorist drove a truck at high speed into a group of soldiers waiting next to a bus, killing four and wounding fifteen. Bystanders said the truck came from the east, the location of the nearby hostile Arab neighborhood Jabel Mukaber, also the home of the terrorists who perpetrated the Har Nof synagogue massacre and the Merkaz Harav yeshiva massacre.
The terrorist was shot and killed by one of the tour guides leading one of the groups of soldiers at the promenade. Several hundred soldiers and about ten tour guides had arrived at the scenic spot overlooking the City of David to learn about Jerusalem's history as part of the IDF educational program.
