1. 'HE WAS MURDERED BECAUSE HE WAS JEWISH'
by Orly Harari
Hundreds participated in the funeral of Guy Kafri, who was murdered in Haifa on Tuesday, at the cemetery of Moshav Ofer.
Shortly before the incident, another shooting attack occurred in the city, which badly wounded Rabbi Yehiel Iluz, a conversion judge. The defense establishment estimates that the shooting attack was nationally motivated.
Relatives of Kafri, who worked as a driver of disabled children, gathered immediately after the murder at the family home in Moshav Ofer in the Carmel Coast Regional Council.
"Guy was one of the most charming and kind people that I knew, who always liked to help everyone. No one can say a bad word about him. He drove children with disabilities and made it his mission. He loved his children - and they, him," said his brother-in-law, Shachar Dror.
"Guy in his nature was not a person who quarreled ... he was kind - wouldn't harm an animal, let alone a human being. I can not think of a time when he fought with someone that would have caused this. We absolutely do not understand how this happened. It's a shock. A bolt from the blue. It is not clear".
2. PROF. AUMANN: 'AZARIYA VERDICT ENDANGERS SECURITY OF ISRAEL'
by Benny Toker
Nobel Prize laureate Prof. Yisrael (Robert) Aumann spoke with Arutz Sheva about the military court's decision to convict Sgt. Elor Azariya for manslaughter for shooting a wounded terrorist who carried out a stabbing attack in Hevron.
"There are two problems here." said Prof. Aumann, who received the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2005 and is an internationally famed expert on game theory. "We are confused because we approach this like manslaughter or like a normal criminal act. We act as though [everything] was calm and then suddenly someone stood up and killed someone [else]."
"But's that's not how it is. We are at war. A real, ongoing war. The War of Independence, and afterwards the Sinai Campaign, the Six Day War, the Yom Kippur War, and Operation Peace for the Galilee (The First Lebanon War) are not separate wars. We are not living in peace and tranquility [interrupted] every few years by a war. We have been constantly at war since the 1920s, and in war you kill the soldiers of the other side, even when they do not pose an [immediate] threat to you."
According to Prof. Aumann western powers recognized that the killing of civilians on the enemy's side was acceptable during the two World Wars. "While we [in Israel] try not to kill civilians, that is a modern [notion], because during World War II in which Europe, the UK, and the US - those champions of morality - participated, they mercilessly killed civilians. They bombed cities to kill civilians, and there was no problem with it. Just look at what happened in Hiroshima."
"Let's accept that nowadays we do not kill civilians. But here this was a soldier on the enemy's side, and in wars you kill soldiers, even when they do not pose an [immediate] threat to you."
Prof. Aumann criticized the military judges who from their ivory tower judge a field in which they have no personal experience. "We're not talking about an event in a peaceful residential neighborhood. This is war, and in a war you must react quickly. There is no time to think about whether [the terrorist] is a threat or is not a threat, and even if you think he isn't a threat he still might be [a threat]."
"These judges sat in a room for months discussing what the soldier should have thought, but he had to respond that instant." he said.
Prof. Aumann accused leftist organizations such as B'Tselem, which provided the video of the shooting which sparked the national controversy over Azariya's actions, of acting to harm the State of Israel. "I believe that this is not the first case in which a terrorist was killed after he had carried out his attack, even after he had been neutralized. But this time B'Tselem was there to film it."
"The killing of the terrorist strikes me as an act of war, and is an acceptable action. It was acceptable in all previous instances when the terrorist was killed who was no longer a threat. Unfortunately we allow these organizations of the extreme left to lead the national discussion. Even in Amona it is not the government which said there was a problem, but [a leftist organization]. Yesh Din [is the organization which] went to court. This is how extreme leftist organizations are leading the national discourse, and it is not appropriate." he said.
Prof. Aumann explained how game theory, which the field in which he won the Nobel Prize, shows how the conviction of Azariya can endanger Israel's national security. "The bottom line of game theory is the incentives that you create in your movements, and when the judges make this sort of decision they speak to the soldiers and the civilians of the nation, and that says something to the enemy. What you say to the soldiers is: 'Sir, don't get into trouble. If you are in a place where there is an attack, just run. Not because of the terrorist attack or the enemy, but because of those who sit in judgement."
According to Professor Aumann the verdict further incentives Arab terrorists to attack Israeli soldiers and civilians. "It is true that it is currently considered acceptable for the Arabs to be a terrorist or a suicide [bomber], but there are some people who might want to live. And here we are creating an incentive that you can commit an act of terrorism, you can shoot p[and kill someone]. and then you can just raise your hands and no one will dare to hurt you."

3. 4 ARRESTED FOR RACIALLY-MOTIVATED KIDNAPPING, TORTURE IN CHICAGO
by David Rosenberg
Four suspects wanted in connection with the shocking racially-motivated kidnapping and torture of a white teenager with mental disabilities were arrested Wednesday night, after the four broadcast video of the incident live on Facebook.
The four suspects, all black 18-year olds from Chicago, kidnapped the victim, also 18 years old, and held him for at least 24 hours.
The victim was bound and gagged while his tormentors punched, kicked, and cut him – all of which was captured on video and displayed on Facebook, under the account of one of the attackers, Brittany Herring.
During the filming of the torture on Tuesday, the four hurled racist insults, mocked the victim, forced him to drink from a toilet, and compelled him to denounce whites and President-elect Donald Trump.
Police say the suspects used a stolen vehicle to kidnap the victim.
"Apparently, they met out in the suburbs," said Kevin Duffin of the Chicago Police Department. "These subjects then stole a van out in the suburbs and then brought him into Chicago."
One investigator said he was "amazed" by the sadism of the incident.
"It's sickening," said Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson. "It makes you wonder what would make individuals treat somebody like that. I've been a cop for 28 years, and I've seen things that you shouldn't see in a lifetime, but it still amazes me how you still see things that you just shouldn't. I'm not going to say it shocked me, but it was sickening."

4. DOLLS USED TO SMUGGLE HARD DRUGS INTO ISRAEL
by Shlomo Pyotrovsky
Ten suspects have been taken into custody recently in a joint operation by Israeli police and the Tax Authority to crackdown on the smuggling of hard drugs into Israel from the United States.
The suspects were placed under arrest after they revealed in interrogation that they have been involved in handling numerous shipments to Israel over the past few months.
In the most recent shipment, the smugglers concealed amphetamines (commonly known as 'speed') in 'Minion' dolls and Star Wars toys. With more than 6.5 kilos of drugs, the shipment is valued at millions of shekels.
Police and investigators from the Tax Authority managed to locate three in-bound packages at the airport, and trace their intended recipients in Tel Aviv and Ramat HaSharon.
Through interrogations of the intended recipients, police uncovered the remaining members of the smuggling ring, arresting them once enough evidence had been compiled for a case.
The suspects include an employee of a shipping company, who apparently used his position to help transfer the packages. All 10 of the suspects are residents of Tel Aviv and Sharon area, and all are in their 30s.
On Thursday the suspects were brought before a district court in Tel Aviv, which extended their arrests ahead of their indictments.

5. MIKE HUCKABEE IN ISRAEL - LIVE BROADCAST FROM JERUSALEM
by Shimmy Blum

The event hall at the prestigious King David Hotel in Jerusalem was upbeat on Wednesday evening, as approximately one hundred business leaders, elected officials and community leaders gathered for a VIP networking dinner hosted by the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce's U.S.-Israel Business Alliance mission.
The mission's leading participant, former governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, sat at the head table flanked by Jewish Chamber Executive Public Policy Committee members Dr. Joseph Frager, Dr. Paul Brody, Odeleya Jacobs and Duvi Honig, and prominent Israeli elected officials.
Duvi Honig commenced the event, marveling at the many high level guests in attendance, including several who traveled from the U.S. for the dinner alone. "We think big," he exclaimed. "We are uniting Jewish community businesses at a global level."
The dinner epitomized the goal of the Jewish Chamber and this mission to Israel, which is focusing on networking Jewish communal and economic powerhouses to advance economic success within the U.S. and Israel, and between the two countries.
A prominent young businessman, Michael Eisenberg of Aleph Venture Capital, shared the story of his grandfather who received an untraceable wire transfer of $70,000 to his American bank account during the 1940s. He put the money aside for years, until it was claimed by a European Holocaust survivor after the war. "Business and relationships are based on trust," Mr. Eisenberg summed up. "This is a unique opportunity for people of shared values and commitment to do business across oceans."
Notes of Optimism
Knesset members Zeev Elkin, Minister of Jerusalem Affairs; Eli Ben-Dahan, Deputy Defense Minister; Oren Chazan; Miki Zohar and Betzalel Smotrich; Consul General in New York Danny Dayan; and Efrat Mayor Oded Ravivi all addressed the gathering. They voiced their disgust at the recent passage of the anti-Israel UN resolution and the U.S. abstention, and thanked Governor Huckabee for his unflinching support at this trying time.
The Israeli officials voiced optimism that the incoming Trump administration will be far friendlier to Israel. A beautiful "Trump-Pence Make America Great Again" cake emblazoned with the U.S. Embassy seal, and American and Jerusalem flags, adorned the head table. The fervor and optimism ahead of Mr. Trump's upcoming inauguration was high. "When the world will see that there is no daylight between the U.S. and Israel," Consul General Dayan predicted, "the world will get the message. It will be a new era."
Dr. Frager noted that the dinner celebrated in addition the fiftieth anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem, and heralded Governor Huckabee's ability to cut through anti-Israel media bias to defend the Jewish State. "We have to develop more Mike Huckabees," he quipped.
Odeleya Jacobs stressed the importance of the Jewish Chamber mission to help Jewish businesses thrive across the globe. "We need to teach people how to fish, rather than just give them fish," she explained.
Duvi Honig cited the famous dictum of King David of "Lechu v'hisparnersu zu m'zu – earn a living one from another" as a symbol of the power of networking, which the Jewish Chamber and this mission work towards. "Today the world is so big, but also so small. It is so much easier for people to network with each other," he explained. He expounded upon the relationships that the Jewish Chamber forged throughout the business world, in Congress, the White House and within the Trump inner circle, and vowed to utilize this network to help Jewish businesses and defeat the BDS movement. "There's nothing we can't accomplish if we have pride and fight together," he exclaimed.
"The Partnership is Deep"
Governor Huckabee, the star of the mission and dinner, spoke last, yet all eyes and ears were firmly trained upon the podium. The governor spoke at various occasions during this mission, but this speech was undeniably his most potent one yet.
The former preacher's oratory skills shone through as he recounted with emotion the time he first took his daughter Sarah, then age eleven, on a tour of Yad Vashem. After they walked through exhibits of the horrific events prior to and during the Holocaust, particularly what was done to Jewish children, Sarah simply wrote in the museum guestbook, "Why didn't somebody do something?"
The governor was proud of his young daughter's insight and how she internalized the Holocaust's most important lesson for future generations. Sarah Huckabee is now a senior aide to President Elect Trump and will serve in his administration. Her father expressed confidence that she will be a forceful advocate against evil, particularly those that seek to harm Israel and the Jewish people.
Governor Huckabee derided the two-state solution as "diplomatic fantasy" and confirmed the sense in the room that the incoming president will be a strong ally for Israel. "The partnership between the United States and Israel are deeper than political and economic," he summed up. "It is based on the values of what it means to be a human being."

6. JEWS PRAYING AT JOSHUA'S TOMB ATTACKED - THEN ARRESTED
by Mordechai Sones
Ten Breslov Hasidim who entered Joshua's tomb in Kifl Hares near Ariel late Wednesday night without prior coordination with security forces came under attack by local Arabs.
They called the emergency police 100 number, were extracted from the area by security forces and were subsequently arrested by police.
According to reports reaching the Honenu organization, which is assisting the detainees, the group entered the village, which is located in Area B (partial Pa control) and to which the entry of Israeli citizens is permitted, when at some point Arabs began throwing stones at their vehicle. The group managed to get to the tomb and entered the structure for protection against the stone throwing, then rushed to alert the security forces.
Police announced that it will bring the detainees to appear before Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court, where they will be represented by Hai Haber, a lawyer from the organization.
A Honenu spokesman commented: "The police once again awards a prize to terrorism and arrest Jewish worshipers who were attacked instead of the attacking Arabs. This is in area B which is not illegal to enter, but it seems more comfortable for the police to act against Jewish worshipers than against Arab rioters."
It should be noted that a few months ago a similar incident occurred during which worshipers were attacked at by Arabs at Joshua's tomb and were then arrested by the police.
Police said of last night's incident, "Ten suspects were arrested and questioned on suspicion of: violation of a General's order, behavior that could endanger public safety, and disturbing a public servant, and are being brought before the Petah Tikva Magistrate court to hear the case.
"The Israel Police reiterates that entering a closed military zone is a violation of a military order and jeopardizes their safety and the safety of our forces. Every few weeks, the Ephraim division organizes a secure and coordinated visit to the tomb, and any uncoordinated entrance to the village is dangerous and in violation of the law", added the police.
7. 'WE'RE GOING TO TEAR THE AZARIYA RULING APART'
by Yedidya Ben-Or
Senior Israeli jurist and defense attorney Yoram Sheftel has joined the defense team of Sgt. Elor Azariya, the IDF soldier convicted Wednesday of manslaughter over the shooting death of an Arab terrorist last March.
In an interview with Army Radio Thursday morning, Sheftel slammed the verdict, saying the court's decision was disconnected from reality.
"We're going to tear every key claim in this ruling to shreds and show how it is flawed from beginning to end," said Sheftel.
"My first impression from the reading of the decision is that it is utterly disconnected from the facts."
Following the reading of the guilty verdict Wednesday afternoon, attorneys for the defense said they were recommended appealing the decision.
"I think we'll appeal this," said Azariya attorney Ilan Katz. "We have requested that hearings for sentencing be held as soon as possible, so that we won't lose time in filing for an immediate appeal [of the conviction]."
