1. CHILD FORGOTTEN IN CAR PASSES AWAY
by Mordechai Sones

A toddler roughly one year of age died Thursday afternoon after she was rescued from a car parked in the village of Avnei Hefetz in Samaria after apparently being left in the car for a protracted amount of time.

A MDA team was called to the scene to treat the child, and was evacuated in critical condition, amidst resuscitation efforts, to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba. Hospital officials were later forced to declare the child’s death.

"Near the vehicle on the road, we saw a toddler about a year old, unconscious after she was rescued from a vehicle in which she apparently spent a few hours," said Avraham Ben Tolila, a paramedic.

"She was without pulse and without breathing, and together with an IDF medical force we gave her medical treatment and performed resuscitation operations, while her condition is listed as critical.

The initial investigation of the incident revealed that the mother of the infant had arrived in the morning at the child care center and for some unknown reason forgot her baby in the car. When she returned to the car at 2 P.M. she immediately notified MDA.

2. RED CROSS VISITS ARCH-TERRORIST BEHIND HUNGER STRIKE
by AFP

The Red Cross visited the leader of hundreds of security prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli jails on Thursday for the first time since the strike began, a spokesman said.

A delegate from the International Committee of the Red Cross visited strike leader Marwan Barghouti on Thursday morning, the spokesman told AFP, the first such visit since the strike began 25 days ago.

The spokesman was unable to provide an update on his health "in accordance with the principles of medical confidentiality."

The ICRC had been allowed access to other prisoners on hunger strike, but Israel had been restricting access to Barghouti.

Hundreds of imprisoned terrorists began refusing food on April 17, issuing a list of demands including better medical services, family visits and more dignified detention conditions.

Israel says conditions meet all international standards.

Barghouti, a senior member of Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmud Abbas's Fatah party and a highly popular figure among Palestinians Arabs, is serving five life sentences over his role in a series of terrorist attacks against Israelis and tourists.

Earlier this week, Israel produced footage they said showed him secretly breaking his fast in his cell.

His wife Fadwa rejected the footage as fake, saying it was "intended to break the morale of prisoners."

3. REPORTS: UNUSUAL TROOP MOVEMENTS IN JORDAN NEAR SYRIAN BORDER
by Mordechai Sones

Intelligence reports gathered from surveillance drones lead some to conclude that the US and Jordanian militaries may be preparing a massive invasion of Syria.

Damascus is on high alert after some 400 American and Jordanian military vehicles were located at a Jordanian military base near the Syrian desert border yesterday (Monday), according to AMN.

At least 100 pieces of heavy military equipment have been moved to a Jordanian military base located east of Az-Zarqa, 43 km away from the Syrian border. Some of the tanks are reportedly Jordanian M60 types.

According to a Syrian Army officer in Damascus, the US-Jordanian Coalition has increased their presence at the Jordanian border in order to possibly deter advancing government forces that are pushing to the Badiyah region of southeast Homs in an important offensive launched by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the southeastern countryside of Damascus this weekend that targeted the large rebel pocket in the province, reported AMN.

"We have intelligence reports revealing the build-up of US and Jordanian forces near the border," the officer told Al-Masdar.

The reports come as massive US forces are already in Jordan to launch a major annual military training event, "one of U.S. Central Command's premier exercises", called "Eager Lion" and dubbed by US Major General Bill Hickman, deputy commanding general for the American army in the region, the "largest and most complex to date".

About 7,400 military personnel, including representatives from Centcom headquarters and its air, land and maritime components will support the exercise scheduled for May 15-24, according to a U.S. Central Command news release.

Eager Lion 16 will consist of a week-long series of simulated scenarios to facilitate a coordinated partnered military response to conventional and unconventional threats, officials said.

The exercise scenarios will include border security, command and control, cyber defense and battlespace management, they added.

The exercise will reportedly include two US Air Force B-1B bomber aircraft, which, according to Hickman, will be "the first time ever a global strike mission" will be conducted by such long-range multi-mission bombers, according to The Times of Israel.

A Jordanian army statement said troops from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Arab Gulf region are taking part in the exercises which run to May 18, including from Britain, Japan, Kenya and Saudi Arabia.

DEBKAfile reported that Jordanian and Turkish military operations faltered in Syria after former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s exit, catching both countries in mid-offensives that Flynn authorized and planned and that were subsequently exposed to Russian strikes. If true, this may explain the timing of the SSA offensive in the midst of the ensuing confusion.

5. RIVLIN RECEIVES SPECIAL COPY OF MEDICAL JOURNAL ON ISRAEL
by Gary Willig

Dr. Richard Horton, the editor-in-chief of the renowned medical journal The Lancet, presented Israeli President Reuven Rivlin with a copy of the special issue of the journal which was dedicated to Israel’s healthcare system and medical innovations in Israel, the president's spokesperson announced Thursday.

President Rivlin met with Dr. Horton and other senior medical figures and researchers who contributed to the issue at the President's residence.

"I want to thank you, and everyone here, for the important initiative of this special magazine: to show Israel’s healthcare system to the whole world, in your respected journal. I am especially pleased this is also on your website, in English, in Hebrew, and in Arabic," said the President.

He stressed: "As this special magazine shows, Israel’s medical care is among the most innovative and cutting edge in the world. Both for treating mental illness, and physical illness. Israeli doctors, and researchers, make miracles happen every day; in hospitals in towns, in cities, and yes, even on the front-line of a war."

"We should all work to be sure that medicine, and science, guide politics - and not the other way around. I want your readers to come to Israel. Come and see, all that we are doing here. Come and be our partners, in building a better future," he concluded.

Dr. Horton thanked the President for hosting the publication's staff, and discusses several key parts of the issue.

"This is a very important moment to celebrate the achievements of Israel in its short 69 year history, and your commitment to universal health coverage. Your fantastic ‘sick funds’, four of them, which are able to maximize the quality and efficiency of your health services, five world class medical schools, internationally competitive research institutions, and a pluralistic, diverse, multi-ethnic society that so enriches your culture and prospects for the future."

He added, "We want to see Israel as a global society, extending international engagement and development cooperation with the rest of the world. This series and I personally utterly reject the boycott against Israel. Boycotts are no way to deal with difference of opinion. Boycotts entrench prejudice and hate, they perpetuate difference and we reject utterly that approach to discussing differences of opinion between communities and peoples."

In 2014, The Lancet published in 'An Open Letter to the People of Gaza,' a screed by anti-Israel activists which accused Israel of war crimes during Operation Protective Edge. Dr. Horton has since expressed his regret that the article appeared in his publication.

6. SHELDON ADELSON PITCHES BRAZILIAN PRESIDENT ON $8 BILLION CASINO
by JTA

JTA - American Jewish billionaire Sheldon Adelson met with Brazilian President Michel Temer and several government officials to pitch an $8 billion casino project in Rio de Janeiro.

Adelson’s visit this week raises rumors of imminent gambling law approval in Latin America’s largest nation, where it has been outlawed for the last 70 years.

The casino magnate and major donor to Jewish causes also met Israel’s new ambassador, Yossi Shelley, and Israel’s honorary consul in Rio, Osias Wurman, during a meeting led by Rio’s Mayor Marcelo Crivella at the city government headquarters.

"He is known to be the biggest individual sponsor of the Taglit Birthright project and showed interested in knowing how many youths from Rio and from across Brazil go to Israel on the project every year," Wurman told JTA.

On Wednesday, O Globo newspaper reported that Adelson met the mayor of Brazil’s second largest city to discuss tourism. The subterfuge is necessary because Brazil has yet to legalize casino gambling, reported the CalvinAyre news website devoted to on-line gambling.

Adelson has long spoken of Brazil, calling the country a "potentially very good opportunity," although he expressed some reservations regarding the economy and called for infrastructure upgrades, including more 4- and 5-star hotels.

"Visionary, Adelson wants to be one of the first entrepreneurs to conquer the country’s gaming market and also bring his casino brand," reported the Games Magazine website. "The approval of a consistent law could make Brazil the third best market for the group, after Las Vegas and Macau."

1. NETANYAHU: EVERY COUNTRY SHOULD MOVE THEIR EMBASSY TO JERUSALEM
by Nitsan Keidar

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's office on Wednesday responded to the report claiming US President Donald Trump had decided to extend the order preventing the US Embassy from being moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

"Prime Minister Netanyahu's office has not received any notice about a decision by the US government to move or not to move the US Embassy," an official notice said.

"Israel's stance is that all the embassies belong in Israel's capital of Jerusalem, and the US Embassy should be one of the first to move."

Various reports have said the Israeli government was not sure it wanted to move the Embassy at present and had requested Trump delay the move.

Earlier on Wednesday, 360 reporter Ariel Kahana said Trump had extended the order preventing the US Embassy from being moved to Jerusalem.

2. 'THERE IS NO EUROPE WITHOUT JEWS'
by Yoni Kempinski, Amsterdam

[youtube:2027899]

Frans Timmermans, First Vice President of the European Commission, said on Tuesday that "there is no Europe without the Jewish Community".

Timmermans spoke at the Conference of European Rabbi’s 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner, held in Amsterdam.  The Gala Dinner was chaired by the Chief Rabbi of Amsterdam, Rabbi Eliezer Wolff.

"Europe is faced with a huge surge of anti-Semitism, which is inspired by people coming from elsewhere, who were raised with anti-Semitism. Our society should be helping them to get it out of their system and signs of anti-Semitism should not remain unaddressed. But sadly, we also face the eternal European anti-Semitism, which is live and kicking," said Timmermans in his remarks.

"Freedom of religion is essential and we will defend the principle that one should not be questioned how they practice religion. There is no Europe without the Jewish community," he added.

In a video message played to the delegated of the Conference, President Tajani, President of the European Union said, "Europe will not be Europe without Jews. Any attack against Jewish communities in Europe is an attack against Europe. We have to act together reaffirming the values at the center of the European integration. Religions are part of the solution for peace and tolerance."

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu wrote a letter to the Conference, in which he said, "Regrettably, anti-Semitism has not disappeared from our world. In recent years, we have been witness to a resurgence in anti-Semitic attacks and many Jews are once again afraid to openly practice their religion and identify themselves as Jews. I appreciate your actions to combat this scourge and refuse the libelous smear campaign against Israel."

Chief Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, President of the Conference of European Rabbis, said, "This is a new very scary environment in which negative forces are taking advantage of globalization and abusing the internet to spread their hate. We rabbis have to provide to our community and to the world a tent, a spiritual tent, which will provide clarity, charity and love, sanctity and tolerance, where the respect to every human being who has been created in the image of G-d is demonstrated.  I thank Frans Timmermans and President Tanjani for their kind words of support for European Jewry."

The gathering that brings together close to 300 delegates, predominantly Chief Rabbis and Rabbis from across Europe, is celebrating its 60th anniversary. It started on Monday and runs through Wednesday.

3. ARAB PLANNED TO BLOW UP MILITARY COURT
by Mordechai Sones

An Arab arrived Wednesday at the Samaria military court near the village of Salem, with two pipe bombs hidden in his clothes.

The Arab arrived at one of the military court's checkpoints seeking to enter. He claimed that he did not have an identity card and aroused suspicions of the soldiers there.

In their search, two pipe bombs were found hidden in his clothes. An initial investigation revealed that the Arab apparently wanted to explode the devices inside the military court to harm the security forces there.

The terrorist, a resident of the Jenin refugee camp, was arrested for further investigation by security forces. Border Police sappers neutralized the charges.

5. REUTERS CHIEF SLAMS US AMBASSADOR FOR DESECRATING 'NAKBA DAY'
by David Rosenberg

Newly-appointed US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman is set to arrive in Israel next Monday, beginning his service in the Jewish state a week ahead of President Trump’s first visit to Israel since taking office in January.

On Tuesday, a Twitter account in Friedman’s name confirmed that he would be heading to Israel on May 15th.

"I am arriving in Israel on May 15 to represent the United States as Ambassador to Israel. I hope to work out of Jerusalem very soon!"

The post, which was retweeted by Israel’s Foreign Ministry, appears to be fraudulent and the account fake.

The faux Friedman announcement drew consternation, from at least one senior journalist, who criticized the timing of Friedman’s departure for Israel.

Luke Baker, Israel bureau chief for Reuters, expressed disapproval that Friedman would be beginning his service in the US Embassy in Israel on May 15th, coinciding with "Nakba Day".

Nakba, Arabic for "catastrophe" is the term used by Arab opponents of the existence of a Jewish state to describe the establishment of Israel in 1948.

Declared by arch-terrorist and mass-murderer Yasser Arafat in 1998, Nakba Day is marked each year with condemnation of the establishment of Israel and accusations of wrongdoing during Israel’s War of Independence, when the nascent Jewish state was invaded by its Arab neighbors.

More than 7,000 Jews, or more than one percent of the total Jewish population in Israel at the time, were killed during the struggle for Israel's independence, from the onset of violence following the UK’s November 1947 declaration it would withdraw from the Mandate of Palestine through the end of the war in 1949.

Nakba Day, held on May 15th, the day after Israel declared independence (according to the Gregorian calendar), has been condemned by the Knesset, which voted to empower the Finance Ministry to strip organizations participating in Nakba Day events.

Nevertheless, on Tuesday Baker hit Friedman over the timing of his arrival, saying it ignored "the tragedy" suffered by Arabs "at Israel’s founding".

"U.S. ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, will arrive on Nakba Day, when Palestinians mark the tragedy they suffered at Israel's founding."

Baker later deleted the tweet from his account, following criticism from Israel’s Consul General in New York, Dani Dayan, who slammed Baker’s comment as "one of the most outrageous tweets ever by the bureau chief of a major news org."

"On May 15 Israel was founded. No better day to arrive," Dayan added.

After deleting the original tweet, Baker apologized for the phrasing of his comment.

"I deleted my tweet after realizing my phrasing could be misconstrued. I dropped the attribution unintentionally. Apologies."

Dayan wrote on Twitter that he accepted Baker's apology, and claim that no malice was intended.

Baker has a history of apparent hostility towards the Jewish state, slamming what he termed the "idiocy" of Israel’s security establishment, and blasting an invitation to speak at a Knesset hearing on media bias as a "witch-hunt".

Nor has his bias been confined to his private Twitter feed or off the record comments. Baker’s reporting in Reuters often emphasizes Israeli responses to terror attacks, rather than the attacks themselves.

For example, instead of emphasizing the stabbing attack by an Arab terrorist which left three wounded on April 1st, an article by Baker highlighted the death of the terrorist during the attack – and declined to identify him as such, calling him instead a "Palestinian".

"Israeli police kill Palestinian who stabbed three in Jerusalem," read the headline.

Yet Baker not only denied any bias in his own writing, he went so far as to claim that there is no problem of anti-Israel bias whatsoever in the foreign media.

"I clearly don’t think the foreign press is biased," Baker told a Knesset hearing in 2016. "I don’t think anyone is denying there have been errors, problems from time to time. Sometimes it’s been harder to correct them than others."

Foreign reports, he argued, had succeeded in producing a "huge amount of coverage with very few factual errors. I fail to see the media has something to answer in terms of systemic bias."

In December 2017, media watchdog organization Honest Reporting named Baker first runner-up for Most Distrusted Reporter of 2016.

6. PIZZA HUT APOLOGIZES FOR LAUGHING AT EATING HUNGER STRIKE LEADER
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Pizza Hut Israel apologized for an "inappropriate" picture mocking archterrorist and hunger strike leader Marwan Barghouti for secretly breaking his fast.

Published by Israel Police earlier this week, the picture shows Barghouti eating secretly in his prison cell.

Pizza Hut took the picture and photoshopped a pizza box into it, adding the caption, "Barghouti, if you are going to break your (hunger) strike, isn't pizza the better choice?"

The Arab world did not like the joke, and called on the public to boycott Pizza Hut.

In response,Pizza Hut Israel removed the picture and published an apology.

"Pizza Hut International apologizes for the insult caused by Pizza Hut Israel's Facebook post," the Facebook apology read.

"It was completely inappropriate and does not reflect Pizza Hut's values. The image was removed immediately, and we have fired the employee who posted it.

"We apologize to all who have been insulted."

Pizza Hut Israel responded, "This was a humorous post regarding our delivery services. Pizza Hut Israel decided to remove the post immediately after being requested to do so by Pizza Hut International."

7. 'THE AMERICAN JEWISH COMMUNITY LOVES ISRAEL'
by Eliran Aharon

[youtube:2027901]

Jewish Americans are connected to Israel a lot more than some think, strategic adviser Charlie Harary told Arutz Sheva on Tuesday.

"People in Israel don’t fully understand how much the American Jewish community loves and adores them," he said. "I go to Israel. I bring a group of 200 men from all over the world. We go to an army base, and the soldiers are crying when we say ‘we love you.’"

"It’s hard for people in Israel to fully grasp it, and I hope they do, that in the Diaspora we see them as family. When something happens in Israel, everybody’s praying for them," said Harary. "We really do have this connection to our homeland, and I’ve seen this from Jews that have never stepped foot in Israel, and they step foot on the land, they feel like they’re home."

1. FRIEDMAN: HOPEFULLY I'LL BE WORKING IN JERUSALEM SOON
by David Rosenberg

US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, who was sworn in March 29th, will be arriving in Israel next Monday to begin his service at the US Embassy.

Confirming recent reports that he will begin his assignment on this coming week, Friedman tweeted Tuesday that he would arrive in Israel on May 15th.

"I am arriving in Israel on May 15 to represent the United States as Ambassador to Israel."

After his arrival on Monday, Friedman will present his credentials to Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, who will officially receive him as America’s ambassador to the Jewish state.

Friedman also fueled speculation in his tweet that the Trump administration may be preparing to relocate the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to the Israeli capital, Jerusalem.

"I hope to work out of Jerusalem very soon!"

As a candidate in the 2016 presidential election, Trump pledged to implement the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act and relocate the US Embassy to Jerusalem and to formally recognize the city as the undivided capital of the State of Israel.

Since taking office, however, Trump has remained mum on whether he will fulfill his campaign pledge.

Friedman, who maintains a residence in Jerusalem, had requested to work out of either his home office or the US Consulate in Jerusalem, a request reportedly denied by State Department officials.

Senior US officials reported last week that while Friedman would reside in Jerusalem, and not in the official Ambassador’s Residence in Herzliya, north of Tel Aviv, he would be working out of the Tel Aviv Embassy until a final decision on the embassy move was made.

2. ERDAN: TURKISH PRESIDENT IS HARMING SECURITY OF J'LEM RESIDENTS
by Tal Polon

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan related to the recent string of verbal attacks by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan against Israel, blasting them as baseless accusations and warning of their potentially dangerous consequences.

"Erdogan’s words are completely baseless and disconnected from reality. Unfortunately, his statements about Jerusalem and the Temple Mount and Jerusalem fan the flames, and hurt the security of residents of Jerusalem and its visitors."

The Minister's words came as Chairman of the Foreign Ministry Yuval Rotem summoned for rebuke this morning Turkish Ambassador to Israel Kamel Okem over the Turkish President’s statements.

Rotem told the Ambassador that Jerusalem is paying no heed to Erdogan’s slanderous talk, and will continue to maintain freedom worship for all religions.

Over the past 24 hours, the Turkish President has made various pronouncements lambasting Israel.

Last night, Erdogan met with top-ranked Palestinian-Arab official Rami Hamdallah in Istanbul to discuss the subject of "Ways of protecting Jerusalem from Israel."

The Ma’an news agency quoted a statement released by Hamdallah’s office, according to which Erdogan "confirmed the necessity of unifying efforts to protect Jerusalem against attempts of Judaization," and called on as many Muslims as possible to visit the Temple Mount in order to emphasize the bond between Islam and the site.

Erdogan also said that "It is impossible to find a solution and peace in the region without finding a fair solution for the Palestinian cause first," adding that "it is an obligation to establish a Palestinian state in the ‘67 borders - and as much pressure as possible needs to be exerted on Israel so that this will happen."

He said that "Israel keeps escaping punishment, which leads it to escalated aggression against Palestinians," and claimed that peace attempts will fail "unless Israel is held accountable for its crimes," according to the Ma’an news agency.

In turn, these statements came on the heels of others he made calling on Muslims to ascend the Temple Mount as a show of solidarity with Palestinian-Arabs in their "fight for rights and justice," and slamming Israel’s proposed Muezzin Bill, which seeks to lower the decibel level of muezzin calls in mosques during sleeping hours.

"The fact that those who talk about freedom of thought and faith at every opportunity actually approve this step by remaining silent is noteworthy. We will not allow the silencing of prayers from the heavens of Jerusalem," he had said.

3. ABBAS: I'M READY TO MEET WITH NETANYAHU - IF TRUMP IS PRESENT
by David Rosenberg

Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas indicated he was willing to meet with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, if the meeting was under the "auspices" of President Donald Trump.

Speaking to reporters in Ramallah Tuesday, Abbas said President Trump was expected to visit Palestinian Authority leaders in Judea and Samaria "soon" – referring to an upcoming trip to Israel scheduled for May 22nd and 23rd.

While President Trump had planned to visit Abbas at his residence in Ramallah, Abbas indicated the president would also be heading to Bethlehem during his trip.

"We are looking forward to his visit soon to Bethlehem," said Abbas.

The PA leader said he was ready to meet with Israel’s Prime Minister if President Trump were to organize a meeting between the two leaders.

"We told him that we were ready to collaborate with him and meet the Israeli PM under his auspices to build peace."

4. ISRAEL TO ERDOGAN: YOU WILL NOT PREACH MORALITY TO US
by Gary Willig

Israel's Foreign Ministry rejected criticism from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Monday evening and said that he had no right to criticize Israel given his own lackluster record on human rights issues.

"Whoever systematically violates human rights in his country should not preach morality to the only true democracy in the region. Israel adheres strictly to full freedom of worship for Jews, Muslims and Christians - and will continue to do so in spite of this baseless slander," the ministry said.

Erdogan had slammed Israel for its proposed Muzzen Bill and called on Muslims from around the world to go to the Temple Mount to show solidarity with the Palestinian Arabs and to protest what he called Israel's human rights abuses.

"The fact that such an issue is even coming to the agenda is shameful," Erdogan said at the opening ceremony of the International Forum on al-Quds Waqf in Istanbul.

"The fact that those who talk about freedom of thought and faith at every opportunity actually approve this step by remaining silent is noteworthy. We will not allow the silencing of prayers from the heavens of Jerusalem," he added.

Erdogan also called on the US to cease all discussions on the possibility of moving its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

"The debates over the possibility of US moving its Israel embassy to Jerusalem are extremely wrong and should certainly drop from the agenda," Erdogan said.

5. MOTORCYCLIST KILLED BY TRUCK
by Mordechai Sones

A motorcyclist was critically injured today (Monday) by a truck on Route 20, near the Glilot East interchange, on the way up to Shivat Hakochavim.

Paramedics and MDA paramedics performed several CPR operations and evacuated him in critical condition to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.

Upon his arrival at the hospital, CPR continued, but doctors were forced to declare the rider's death.

Idan, a MDA paramedic who arrived at the scene, said: "As I drove by I saw an accident. On the road I saw a man of about 40, lying unconscious, without a pulse or breathing, suffering severe injuries.

"I immediately began giving him life-saving medical treatment that included advanced operations. An intensive care unit of MDA that arrived at the same time continued the medical treatment and evacuated him during resuscitation operations to the hospital as his condition was defined as critical," said the paramedic.

6. DEPUTY FM: BUILD NEW TOWN IN SAMARIA IMMEDIATELY
by Hezki Baruch

[youtube:2027825]

Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) on Monday met the women of Amona, all of whom are currently living with their families in a school dormitory in the neighboring town of Ofra.

Amona's residents were expelled from their homes in February 2017, and the town was completely destroyed. Since then, the residents have been living in a dormitory while they wait for the promised caravans to be built in a new location.

"I came here to meet the women of Amona, who are going through such a difficult period," Hotovely said. "It's not only difficult for them - it's difficult for their entire families, who are living in a place which is not suited for family life."

"This needs to end with the building of a new town, as the government promised it would do.

"The government can choose whether to build a new town quickly, or whether to do it the regular [bureaucracy-delayed] way, which takes two years. I am sure that we need to build the new town as quickly as possible, so that the families will have a future instead of living out of suitcases.

"We have an obligation toward Amona's residents, and we must do everything we can to ensure that a new, permanent, town is built as quickly as possible."

In response to Arutz Sheva's question about how the Israeli government had not learned a lesson from the 2005 expulsion from Gush Katif, when homes were destroyed before proper facilities were prepared for their residents, Hotovely said, "There's no comparison. [Gush Katif] was a bad decision made by the Israeli government, and we are still paying the price today."

"Here, we're talking about a town recognized as valuable by the Israeli government. The government wants Amona on the map.

"I am asking you please not to compare Amona to Gush Katif."

"We are a right-wing government, and we will do everything we can to ensure there will be no more expulsions," Hotovely added. "We need to implement the Levy Report." The Levy Report, written by a committee headed by late Supreme Court Justice Edmond Levy, proved that Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria is permissible under international law. The government, which commissioned the report, did not formally adopt it for political reasons.

"We passed the Regulation Law, and we fought for it, and I think that the settlement of Israel will continue to flourish."

Before meeting with the Amona women, Hotovely toured the dormitory which houses the families. Visiting the rooms of three different families, she saw the difficult reality in which 7 children live in a 12 meter room, in which they have to live, play, do homework, sleep, and eat.

Hotovely also met Oriyah Yahav, a National Service volunteer who lives in one room with her six brothers; Noam, a boy who celebrated his bar mitzvah on Monday morning; and Moriah Shaag, who gave birth to her son Lavi after her home was destroyed. She listened to stories of how the families are dealing with the hardships, including the lack of privacy and the impact it has on marriage and family life.

7. B'TSELEM 'MARKING' IDF SOLDIERS
by Uzi Baruch

A film produced by the radical left-wing organization B’Tselem is set to debut at a Tel Aviv theater Tuesday night, the latest effort by the group in its campaign to disparage and smear soldiers serving in the IDF.

The film’s release marks 10 years since the beginning of B’Tselem’s "Cameras Project", in which the group distributed video cameras to Arab residents across Judea and Samaria, encouraging them to provoke Israeli security forces, then film their responses and release heavily redacted versions portraying officers and soldiers in a negative light.

Since the project began a decade ago, B’Tselem has adopted increasingly aggressive tactics for harassing soldiers serving in Judea and Samaria and, apparently, singling out individual soldiers even after the incidents filmed by B’Tselem provocateurs.

In an article published in Haaretz and a post promoted by B’Tselem, far-left journalist Amira Hass – who in the past has praised Arab stone-throwing attacks on Israeli civilians – provided an example of the radical left’s tracking of individual soldiers.

"To the parents of the officer with the beauty mark above his upper lip, who in February of this year served next to the settlement of Yitzhar: If you want to bask in your heroic son’s [glory] during an operation, go to the Tel Aviv Cinematheque this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Your son is the star of the show: pulling his gun on civilians, decisive, coordinating with the two soldiers there with him, shooting out his orders like a gentleman in broken Arabic, reporting to his commanders… ‘I’m with three youths, one with a camera, not that it bothers me much.’"

The incident in question, filmed by B’Tselem activists, occurred near the town of Yitzhar, when provocateurs acting on behalf of the group approached the town and were stopped by soldiers.

8. DEBATE BETWEEN HAARETZ STAFFERS AND MK SHULI MUALEM
by Mordechai Sones

The Haaretz newspaper held a conference at the Beit Berl College on the question of Judea and Samaria's annexation.

MK Shuli Mualem Refaeli, MKs Aida Toma Suleiman (Joint List), Yoav Kish (Likud), former MK Haim Oron, and journalists Ravit Hecht and Gideon Levy, a radical leftist, participated in one of the sessions.

Ravit Hecht, a Haaretz journalist, attacked the Jewish Home chairman, saying, "You call yourself someone who cares about social legislation, you need to see the financial data of these settlements, or as you call them, villages, which are a huge economic burden on the state. The budgets allocated to preserve the lives of those who chose to live there could be redirected to other sectors."

"You're performing cheap demagoguery here," MK Mualem Refaeli replied and turned to Aluf Benn, Haaretz's news editor.

"The time has come for you to change your perception. On the roads of Judea and Samaria, on the way to Gush Etzion where I live, they throw stones and firebombs. With great regret, I do not see this receive priority or even expression in your newspaper. Our lives are basically worthless to you. If you want to go for numbers, fine. Note that most of the Jews killed in terrorist attacks in recent years were not in Judea and Samaria. Must I remind you of the period when buses would explode in Tel Aviv?! The State of Israel is the nation-state of the Jewish people and Judea and Samaria and its Jewish residents are an inseparable part of it," said Muallem Refaeli.

She added, "I represent the perception that there is no way to be an occupier in one's own land, and as far as I'm concerned, we should go towards application of Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria. The time has come for you to realize that the concepts you speak about are no longer accepted by the majority of the Israeli public. Not the two-state solution, not peace, nor the demographic threat that gets waved about from time to time."

Gideon Levy, who attacks residents of Judea and Samaria in many of his articles, said, "Thanks to Shuli, her friends, and the settlement enterprise, the two-state solution is no longer achievable, it's a beautiful and breathtaking solution, but it's no longer possible. The question now is whether the one state here will be apartheid or democratic - where we also stand in silence on the Nakba and we'll have a Palestinian prime minister and chief of staff. If I have to choose between the two options, I prefer the democratic state, and do not think that today the State of Israel is a democratic state, that state is an illusion."

1. TRUMP DODGES ARAB TRAP IN RAMALLAH
by David Rosenberg

President Donald Trump is slated to visit Israel from May 22nd to 23rd, his first state visit to Israel as president, during which time he is tentatively scheduled to meet with Palestinian Authority officials in Ramallah.

While state visits to the Palestinian Authority leadership in Ramallah have become an established feature of visits to Israel by senior Western leaders, PA officials apparently had something bigger and less innocuous planned than the typical meet-and-greet.

According to Israel Hayom, President Trump was initially slated to walk through the grounds outside the PA’s Mukata complex to an official reception ceremony with Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

The proposed route would take the president right next to the burial place of former PLO leader and arch-terrorist, Yasser Arafat; a detail left out by the PA planners who presented the route to American officials.

Rather than a minor logistic oversight, the move was part of a calculated effort to lay a PR ambush for the president, allowing photographers to catch him in what would appear to be a planned visit to the grave of the deceased terrorist leader.

A senior PA official and aide to Mahmoud Abbas admitted to Israel Hayom that the proposed route’s proximity to Arafat’s grave was no accident.

But perceptive White House aides quickly realized the gravity of the president passing through the planned route, and nixed the plan, the PA official said.

"A short time after the Secret Service and the president’s security team approved the route…officials from President Trump’s office contacted us to tell us that President Trump and his family would not be able to pass next to Arafat’s grave, since doing so could potentially create an embarrassing situation for the president inside the US, and even a diplomatic crisis with Israel, and we were asked to find alternative routes."

2. PRESIDENT TRUMP'S MESSAGE TO ISRAEL
by David Rosenberg

President Donald Trump is slated to visit Israel on May 22nd, part of a trip that includes scheduled stops in Saudi Arabia and the Vatican.

Ahead of his trip, the president released a statement to Israel Hayom Monday morning that describes his plans for working with the Israeli government to confront regional problems – first and foremost the threat posed by the Iranian regime and its proxies across the Middle East.

"During my first trip as president to Israel, I will emphasize the need to strengthen cooperation between Israel and the US," wrote President Trump. "I’m looking forward to the trip."

"It is my honor to accept the invitation of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to make my first trip as president to Israel, where I will emphasize the need to strengthen cooperation between Israel and the US; a partnership that has been successful for so many years."

The president added that the threats emanating from Iran and ISIS would be at the top of the agenda.

"We will focus on a number of regional issues that are the source of joint concern for us, including the need to act against the threats posed by Iran and its proxies, the dangers posed by ISIS, and the threats from other terrorist groups. We will also discuss ways to promote a real and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians."

3. WATCH: BARGHOUTI'S LIES CAUGHT ON FILM
by Yoni Kempinski

[youtube:2027781]

Arch-terrorist and mass-murderer Marwan Barghouti, who has led a hunger strike by jailed terrorists held in Israeli prisons, has been eating in secret while maintaining the pretenses of his own hunger strike, footage released Sunday reveals.

Barghouti, who is believed to be responsible for the deaths of 26 people in suicide bombings and shooting attacks during the Second Intifada and is currently serving five consecutive life sentences for murder, declared the hunger strike in a New York Times opinion piece in April, in the middle of the Jewish festival of Passover.

But footage of Barghouti’s jail cell reveals that the arch-terrorist feigned his own hunger strike, eating in secret in a corner of his room, just as he did in the previous hunger strike he led.

A senior member of the Fatah-Tanzim terror group, Barghouti retained his seat in the Palestinian Authority legislature despite his conviction and imprisonment. Barghouti nevertheless remains a popular figure within the Palestinian Authority, and is often touted as a potential successor to current PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

Minister of Internal Security Gilad Erdan (Likud) mocked Barghouti, accusing the jailed terrorist of orchestrating the hunger strike to improve his own political standing while failing to take part in the strike itself.

"The terrorists’ hunger strike has nothing to do with their prison conditions; it is simply a [tool] for Marwan Barghouti’s political interests, both inside prison and in the Palestinian Authority."

4. 'WE SHOULD TELL THE TRUTH: THERE WILL BE NO PALESTINIAN STATE'
by Eliran Aharon

[youtube:2027797]

Jewish Home chairman Naftali Bennett said on Sunday that Israel should make clear to U.S. President Donald Trump, during his upcoming visit to Israel, that while it is open for negotiations with the Palestinian Authority (PA), it opposes preconditions.

"President Trump is certainly a great friend to Israel and we’re very happy to have him over in Israel, and we’re always open to negotiations, but what we will not have is preconditions or pre-concessions," he told Arutz Sheva on the sidelines of the Jerusalem Post conference in New York.

"We’re not going to give up territory. We’re not going to give gifts for the huge opportunity to talk to the Arabs. I think it’s important that we focus on building a powerful economy, high tech entrepreneurship and co-existence with our neighbors, but everyone knows we’re not going to form another Palestinian state," added Bennett.

"I did a lot of business in America. I lived in Manhattan for five years and did dozens of deals. What Americans appreciate is candor, is honesty, integrity, and those who tell the truth. And we are telling the truth. And the truth is that we will not divide Jerusalem. The Arabs don’t want Israel. It’s not about a Palestinian state. It’s about our very existence. We’re going to have to learn to live together, but we’re not going to found another Palestinian state beyond the one in Gaza," he reiterated.

"Unfortunately, the Prime Minister's perception is different. That is legitimate. This is his position. I think that ultimately, the Prime Minister should adopt our perception that between the sea and the Jordan there will not be a Palestinian state. A Palestinian state will flood the State of Israel with refugees and will also constitute a security disaster," warned Bennett.

5. WHY IS NEW YORK CITY HONORING A NAZI COLLABORATOR?
by Ben Shaul

American Jewish groups are up in arms over an official street marker in Manhattan honoring a Nazi collaborator responsible for the deportation of thousands of Jews to German concentration camps.

The City of New York recently decided to honor historical figures welcomed in the city since 1886 with ticker-tape parades, transforming 13 blocks of Manhattan’s historic Broadway into the "Canyon of Heroes".

But some pedestrians walking down Broadway were taken aback to see that among the figures included as "heroes" was perhaps the world’s most famous Nazi collaborator: Henri Philippe Petain, Prime Minister of Vichy France.

Petain, a World War I general who led the French Second Army at the Battle of Verdun, was honored in 1931 for his defense of France against German invasion.

His subsequent service to the French nation, however, led to a treason conviction and a death sentence later commuted to a life sentence behind bars.

A pliable leader willing to accept German suzerainty, Petain was appointed Prime Minister on the eve of Germany’s victory over France in 1940. Under his administration, France accepted German control over much of the country, and established the new Vichy government, based in the town of Vichy.

Thousands of French Jews were deported to Germany during Petain’s rule, and Vichy France actively aided the Axis powers in North Africa during the "Operation Torch" Allied invasion in 1942.

Despite his notoriety after his 1931 hero’s welcome, Petain was nevertheless included in the Canyon of Heroes, with a marker honoring him – just two blocks away from a similar marker for David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first Prime Minister.

State Assemblyman Dov Hikind blasted Petain’s inclusion in the Canyon of Heroes and called for the removal of the marker.

"I don’t think there is any question that this needs to be removed and I hope the city will do the right thing," said Hikind.

6. 250 GIRLS SIGN PETITION TO GOC CENTRAL COMMAND
by Orly Harari

250 schoolgirls wrote a letter to the Commanding Officer of the Central Command (GOC) regarding Yitzhar resident Elkana Pikhar, whom the Central Command is attempting to distance from his home.

In their letter, the girls asked the GOC Central Command not to sign the order expelling Pikhar from his home.

"We, the girls of the Nahalat Tzvi School in Elon Moreh, the friends of the daughters of the Pikhar family, call out to GOC Central Command Roni Numa: Do not expel our friends' father from his home!"

"Busy yourself with fighting our Arab enemies, and leave good Jewish settlers alone. Do not cause a rift between the IDF and good Jews who love the land of Israel!"

The petition was signed by 250 girls in grades 1-8, who hail from various towns in the region. All of the girls are friends of the Pikhar girls, who learn with them in school.

Last week, Attorney Menashe Yado of Honenu sent a detailed letter to GOC Central Command Numa explaining why he should not place Pikhar under administrative detention. Among other things Yado said such a detention would seriously harm the Pikhar family's freedom and financial situation.

Yado has not yet received an answer from Numa.

7. HASSIDIC FOUNDERS' BELONGINGS UP FOR SALE
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Two items of great historic and religious value were just revealed to the public: A piece of fabric whicht was part of a robe worn by Rabbi Yisrael Baal Shem Tov (Besht), and a pipe which once belonged to Rabbi Yaakov Yitzhak Rabinowitz.

Rabbi Yisrael Baal Shem Tov was the founder of the hassidic movement, and Rabbi Yaakov Yitzhak Rabinowitz was the founding father of the Gur hassidic sect.

Rabbi Rabinowitz is widely known as the "Yehudi Hakadosh" (Holy Jew) of Peshischa.

The two items are currently on display in the Kedem Auction House in Jerusalem, and will be put up for public auction on Tuesday.

The piece of fabric, which is part of a robe worn by the Baal Shem Tov, is fashioned of woven floral fabric. It was passed down to the descendants of the Rebbe Rabbi Haim Tirer of Czernowitz for generations as a family heirloom.

The Czernowitzer Rebbe was the author of the celebrated hassidic work Beer Mayim Haim and his daughter was married to the son of the Degel Mahane Efraim, who was the Baal Shem Tov’s grandson.

The item passed down for generations and last belonged to Mrs. Bracha Maor, a direct descendant of the Czernowitzer Rebbe Rabbi Chaim Tirer.

According to family tradition, this piece of fabric was taken from a robe worn by the Baal Shem Tov from the time he was 26 and until his passing at the age of 60. Mrs. Bracha Maor endowed the heirloom to Rabbi Efraim Gutman of Tel Aviv, whose home she frequently visited during the final years of her life.

Enclosed with the piece of fabric is a signed affirmation by the Romanian-born Tel Aviv Rabbi Efraim Gutman that he received the fabric from Mrs. Bracha Ma'or, as well as a signed affirmation by the Hussaków-Tel Aviv Rebbe Rabbi Efraim Dov Teitelbaum.

The second item up for public auction is a tobacco pipe crafted of sepiolite and silver which formerly belonged to the Yehudi HaKadosh (Holy Jew) of Peshischa.

This tobacco pipe was a family heirloom passed down by the descendants of the Yehudi HaKadosh until present times.

The pipe was first bequeathed by the Yehudi HaKadosh to his son Rabbi Nehemia of Bykhaw, after which it passed to his nephew Rabbi Avraham of Parysów, who gave it as a dowry to his granddaughter Malka and her husband Rabbi Betzalel Halevi.

Rabbi Betzalel Halevi then bequeathed the pipe to his son Rabbi Asher Ferens of Haifa, who is the father of the current owners.

The tobacco pipe has special significance in hassidic tradition, which describes the special spiritual salvations, "unifications," and rectificationstheir spiritual leaders performed while smoking their pipes.

It is told that the Ba'al Shem Tov showed his disciple Rabbi David of Ostroh the "New Heavens" he created with the "unifications" he made while smoking his pipe, and Rabbi David instantly fainted from fear.

Similarly, the Toldot Ya’akov Yosef stated prior to his passing that he "Entreated G-d that he should be rewarded for all the Torah he learned and mitzvot he fulfilled throughout his lifetime, and which his master the Ba'al Shem Tov acquired while offering ‘yichudim’ during one bout of smoking his pipe." (Zohar, Chai Teruma, 62, 2).

According to hassidic tradition, the Yehudi HaKadosh also performed many miraculous feats while smoking his pipe, as he personally shared when his pipe was once stolen. Tiferet HaYehudi (and Zechuta D’Avraham) cite that a short while after the pipe was stolen, it returned miraculously to him.

"Once, this pipe was stolen and he was very aggrieved upon the loss of his pipe, and he expressed, ‘When I smoked my pipe, I accomplished great things and was able to draw great holy abundance for the Jewish People.’"

According to Chassidic lore, the Yehudi HaKadosh then declared that his pipe would be returned to him within a short while, and indeed it reappeared. The pipe had been sold to the district governor, yet the man’s tongue filled with sores and lesions every time he tried smoking the pipe.

The Rabbi of Warsaw Rabbi Dov Berish Meislish recounted that he heard from one of Gur's rabbis that while smoking his pipe, the Yehudi HaKadosh would focus upon the same thoughts and intentions which the High Priest had reflected upon while bringing the incense offering on Yom Kippur in the Holy of Holies.

8. CONTINUING 700 YEARS OF BUILDING JERUSALEM
by Yoni Kempinski

[youtube:2027796]

In preparation for the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem, Arutz Sheva, together with Ateret Cohanim, are presenting a special project that will focus on the renewal of Jewish presence in eastern Jerusalem, the Old City and the village of Shiloah (bordering the Kidron Valley outside the Old City walls).

"Ateret Cohanim is probably the most important, non-profit organization vis-à-vis the future of Jerusalem," said Daniel Luria, Ateret Cohanim Executive Director and Spokesperson.

"There are some people who say that we’re even the paratroopers of the ‘seventh day war’. In six glorious days, Hashem opened up those gates of Jerusalem, and we the Jewish people, were reunited after Jerusalem was liberated, but there was a lot of work still to be done, especially in and around the Old City. So for 39 years, Ateret Cohanim has been effectively strengthening Jewish roots in the heart of Jerusalem. Redeeming, reclaiming old Jewish property, adding Jewish life, and as a result of that work today, there are 1,000 Jewish residents living in the Old Jewish Quarter. There is a Jewish neighborhood on the Mount of Olives, there are Jewish families who have returned to the old Yemenite village. It’s the revival of Jewish life. It’s the unfolding redemption process of the Zionist dream being realized in our time."

Mati Dan, Ateret Cohanim Chairman and Founder, said, "This is a 700-year-old enterprise. The Ramban (Nachmanides) arrived in Jerusalem in ’67. Not 1967, but 1267. He came here, and since then there was a continuity of Jewish presence until 1948, when the Old City of Jerusalem fell [to the Jordanians]."

"There are many missions, but one of the main ones is to tell the story of Jerusalem not only from 1967, but until 1967, to give the background about the continuous Jewish residence here of people who remained strong despite all the difficulties," he continued.

"We are the beginning of the process. There’s a lot of work still to be done," said Luria. "Yes, there have been some tremendous successes, but we need the Jewish world. You’re going to see some of the successes, some of the projects inside the Old City, in the Yemenite village, the Mount of Olives, where your input is vital. Basically, we want you to be paratroopers with us, coming through those gates of Jerusalem and helping, together, to build a united Jerusalem."
