JUDEA AND SAMARIA POPULATION GROWTH KILLS TWO-STATE SOLUTION by Arutz Sheva Staff The complete Judea and Samaria (West Bank) Jewish Population Stats report was released on Sunday with data updated to January 1, 2017. The report is available to the public in English via the mailing list at the http://WestBankJewishPopulationStats.com website. The Associated Press picked up the newly-released report as well. The West Bank Jewish Population Stats report is compiled each year by former Member of Knesset Yaakov "Ketzaleh" Katz based on precise data from the population registry in Israel’s Ministry of the Interior. As of January 1, 2017, according to the report, 420,899 Jews live in Judea and Samaria, not including those in the eastern neighborhoods of Jerusalem, which which were also liberated during the Six Day War of 1967. With the report’s release, Former Knesset Member Katz said, "The number of Jews living today in Judea and Samaria speaks volumes. The facts on the ground in this region are irreversible and render the concept of a two-state solution obsolete. " And such was the case with renowned Israeli author A. B. Yehoshua who led the struggle for a two-state solution for decades. In a December 2016 meeting, President of the State of Israel Ruby Rivlin presented the 2016 West Bank Jewish Population Stats Report, compiled by Former Knesset Member Yaakov "Ketzaleh" Katz, to Mr. Yehoshua. After studying the report, A. B. Yehoshua told Kol Yisrael radio on Dec. 7th, 2016 [ https://youtu.be/An9Fu2iB514 ]: "This solution [two-state] is no longer possible. I believed in this solution for 50 years, I fought for it, and was an activist for it. When I, as an intellectual, must face reality and not delude myself, I must ask if this solution is truly possible… After we internalize that it is impossible to deport 450,000 settlers from Area C, it won’t happen [under any circumstances]. Can we divide Jerusalem? …It’s time to start thinking of alternative solutions." The report tracks the Jewish population growth over the last year and over the last 5 years and includes a future projection based on the current growth rates. Baruch Gordon, a researcher on the report and founder of IsraelNationalNews.com, said on Sunday: "For years, policy makers both in Israel and the West had no clue to the size of the West Bank Jewish population. The numbers were suppressed; the media silent. This report introduced the real figures into the discourse. Its impact cannot be overestimated." The report is now available to the public via the mailing list at http://WestBankJewishPopulationStats.com 2. WATCH: HAREDI SOLDIER FIGHTS BACK AGAINST EXTREMIST by Arutz Sheva Staff [youtube:2026296] An anti-Zionist extremist in the Meah Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem got more than he bargained for when he provoked a religious soldier. While the extremist initially appeared to be giving the soldier a blessing, the "blessing" quickly turned into an insult as he wished the soldier a "recovery" from "mental illness". The soldier did not take the insult lightly, as can be seen in the video above. 3. WATCH: ANTI-ISRAEL PROTESTERS BLOCK ENTRANCE AT AIPAC CONFERENCE by Arutz Sheva Staff [youtube:2026290] Anti-Israel protesters demonstrated outside the opening of the 2017 AIPAC conference in Washington DC Sunday. Some protesters formed a human chain in front of the entrance to the conference, while others gathered nearby chanting slogans. Counter demonstrations by pro-Israel groups were also held near the entrance of the conference, with several scuffles between pro and anti-Israel demonstrators reported. Tens of thousands of Jews and non-Jewish Israel supporters are expected to take part in the conference of the largest American pro-Israel lobby group, whose annual meetings have drawn Prime Ministers, presidents, and other world leaders. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair spoke early on Sunday at the opening of the conference, along with Israeli Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer and President Paul Kagame of Rwanda. Other guest speakers slated to attend the conference are Vice President Mike Pence, Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett (Jewish Home), Opposition Leader Isaac Herzog (Zionist Union), as well as members of Congress. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will address the conference Monday via satellite. [album:open [youtube:2026281] 4. PRESIDENT RIVLIN REJECTS OLMERT'S PARDON REQUEST by Shlomo Pyotrovsky President Reuven Rivlin has denied former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s request for a presidential pardon, obliging Olmert to fulfill the remainder of his jail sentence. Olmert, who served as Prime Minister from 2006 to 2009, was convicted in connection with two separate corruption scandals. In 2016 Olmert, then 70, began his 19-month sentence, becoming the first Israeli Prime Minister to be incarcerated. In his decision to reject the pardon request, President Rivlin wrote that the unique circumstances of Olmert’s conviction and his years of service at the highest levels of government were already taken into consideration by the court when Olmert was convicted and sentenced. Rivlin also noted that the former Prime Minister is slated to meet soon with a parole board, who will determine whether Olmert qualifies for early release. 5. 22 ARRESTED IN HAREDI NEIGHBORHOODS by Mordechai Sones The Israeli Police announced an undercover investigation into sexual crimes committed in haredi communities and in neighborhoods in Betar Illit, Bnei Brak, and Jerusalem. In the overnight operation police arrested 22 suspects and searched homes. The crimes were allegedly committed over a period of two years. The ongoing investigation gathered evidence against suspects who carried out crimes within the communities. Community members did not report the information to authorities or social workers and tried to cover up the sexual crimes that were being committed. Members of the community preferred to employ "law of the jungle" methods to deal with the crimes. The incidents were documented by members of the community and police acquired this evidence. The ages of the suspects arrested range between 20 and 60 years old. Police were faced with disturbances in the haredi communities during the arrests and damage was caused to police cars involved in the operation. All suspects are being questioned at the Jerusalem police department and will appear before the courts based on the developments of the investigation. 6. 'TRUMP SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING EMBASSY MOVE' by Ido Ben Porat, Washington [youtube:2026306] Vice President Mike Pence on Sunday addressed the 2017 AIPAC policy conference, where he expressed gratitude to Jews in America who helped elect President Donald Trump and stressed the administration’s unwavering commitment to Israel. "I’m proud to call [Trump] my friend. I’m proud to call him my president, but I was never more proud when, at the outset of his first address to Congress, he condemned the vandalism and hate against Jewish communities in the United States," said Pence. "Under President Donald Trump, the world will know this: America stands with Israel! President Trump stands with Israel because her cause is our cause. Her values are our values. And her fight is our fight." Pence noted that during Trump’s recent meeting with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, the President stressed the strong relationship with Israel and said that the relationship will become even stronger. "We pray for the peace of Jerusalem and all who call her home," said Pence. "And I say with confidence: President Trump and I stand without apology for Israel and we always will!" Among the pro-Israel actions taken by Trump was the appointment of Nikki Haley as UN ambassador, who will ensure that "the United Nations will no longer be used as a forum for invective against Israel," continued the Vice President. He also cited the appointment of David Friedman as ambassador to Israel, saying, "This week it will be my high honor to administer the oath of office to Ambassador David Friedman. In addition, Pence referred to Trump’s campaign promise to move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. "After decades of talking about it, the President is giving serious consideration to moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem," he said. Trump is also dedicated to finding a solution to the Israel-Palestinian Authority conflict but at the same time "will never compromise the safety and security of the State of Israel", Pence stressed. "President Trump has made it clear: America stands alongside Israel as friends and as allies. America’s security support for Israel is at a record level. Our commitment to Israel’s defense is non-negotiable. Not now, not ever," he declared. "In President Trump, America has a leader who will call our enemies by their name," said Pence, who noted the terrorist attack in London last week in which "radical Islamic terrorism reared its ugly head." "We will hunt down and destroy ISIS and its source, so it can no longer threaten our people, our allies or our most cherished ally, Israel." "America will stand strong I the face of the leading state sponsor of terrorism. This administration has put Iran on notice. The Ayatollahs in Iran openly admit their desire to destroy Israel. Let me be clear: Under President Donald Trump, the United States of America will not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon. This is our solemn promise to you, to Israel and to the world!" stressed Pence. 7. PRO-ISRAEL PALESTINIAN ARAB CONFRONTS ANTI-ISRAEL JEWS by David Rosenberg Anti-Israel demonstrators associated with the IfNotNow organization protested outside of the AIPAC conference in Washington DC on Sunday, blasting the Netanyahu government, Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, and AIPAC’s support for Israel. The protesters included a large contingent of far-left Jewish radicals, including IfNotNow founder Simone Zimmerman, who served as Jewish outreach coordinator for Bernie Sanders’ Democratic primary bid in 2016. A counter-demonstration of pro-Israel activists faced off against the IfNotNow protesters and included delegations from across the US and Canada. One pro-Israel demonstrators who traveled from Toronto to show her support for Israel and challenge the anti-Zionist agitators was Sandra Solomon, a self-described pro-Israel Palestinian. A Canadian human rights activist born in Samaria and raised in Saudi Arabia, Solomon was born into a religious Muslim family, but has since left the faith, becoming an advocate against Islamism and the spread of radical Islam. Solomon spoke out during the IfNotNow demonstration and pro-Israel counter-demonstration in front of the AIPAC conference Sunday, calling the claim that Israel occupies Arab land "a lie". "I am Palestinian, but I stand with Israel", Solomon said. "We are the Arabs. We occupy the land of the Jews. This Jewish land. It’s going to be there for ever and ever. I used to be a Muslim. They taught me to hate Israel and the Jewish people. There is no Palestine. It’s a lie. They are using Palestine just to kill the Jewish people. Just to hate the Jews. They teach me to ‘purify al-Aqsa mosque from the filthy Jews’. Palestinians are liars." Solomon drew national attention in Canada earlier this year with a series of interviews and web videos decrying what she called the Islamization of the West. Following the release of the videos, several Canadian imams called for Solomon to be executed "for blasphemy". [youtube:2026290] 8. 'A NEW ERA IN ISRAEL-AMERICA RELATIONS' by Eliran Aharon [video:2026304] Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) spoke to Arutz Sheva on Sunday at the 2017 AIPAC policy conference. "We are in a new era in Israel-America relations. We used to be in a position when we couldn’t even put one brick in Jerusalem. This administration understands that the ‘settlements’ are not an obstacle to peace, and I think that this acknowledgement is maybe the most important thing when we speak about any future arrangement in the region," she said. "I think that now, 50 years after the Six Day War, it’s about time for us to say in a very clear way: Half a million Jews live in a Jewish land. We’re not occupiers in our own land. And this is why we have the natural right to build in Judea and Samaria. The most important thing is for the American administration to understand the needs of those communities, where after eight years of having no ability to plan new buildings, I think it’s about time for us to say: We need this like air to breathe," continued Hotovely. Referring to President Donald Trump’s campaign promise to move the American embassy to Jerusalem, Hotovely said, "By June 1 we’ll all know what’s happening with that. The administration said in a very clear way: We’re working on it, we’re thinking about it. Every president should consider the consequences of the fact that he’s doing something that is historical. It’s very clear that our capital is Jerusalem. Jerusalem has been the capital of Israel for 3,000 years, and I think it’s about time that all the embassies in the world should be in Jerusalem. ------------------------------------------------ Subscribe to this Daily Israel Report: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Subscribe/ | |
