ISRAELI ARRESTED FOR THREATS TO JEWISH INSTITUTIONS by Arutz Sheva Staff Israeli police arrested this morning in the south of Israel, as part of an ongoing international investigation that has been taking place for several months with other police and security agencies in America and Europe, a 19 year old suspect on suspicions of making security related threats and publishing false reports causing fear and panic in Jewish communities in countries around the world. The investigation began in several countries at the same time, in which dozens of threatening calls were received at public places, events, synagogues and community buildings that caused panic and disrupted events and activities in various organizations. The result of the threats made by the suspect had an effect and caused damage to the communities and to their security and, in one case when threats were made by the suspect, caused an airline to make an emergency landing. After an intensive investigation in cooperation with FBI including representatives who arrived in Israel, as well as other police organizations from various countries, technology was used to track down the suspect who had made these ongoing threats around the world. The suspect used advanced camouflage technologies when contacting other countries and making those threats, including Australia, New Zealand and the United States. The suspect's house was searched this morning and evidence taken by police units as part of the ongoing investigation. The suspect was arrested and brought for questioning at the international investigations unit and will appear before the Rishon Letzion Court. 2. 'WHAT WAS GAINED FROM RICHARD GERE TOURING HEVRON?' by Mordechai Sones Minister Gilad Erdan Thursday excoriated Breaking the Silence activists for their decision to take actor Richard Gere on a tour of Hevron. "I ask Breaking the Silence activists: I saw on Channel 2 that it was urgent for you to invite Richard Gere to a guided tour of Hevron during the two-and-a-quarter days he was here. Not that I have a problem with tours in Hevron. On the contrary, I was there this week to embrace soldiers and policemen and pray in the Cave of the Patriarchs, something that always fill me with strength," Erdan began his Facebook post. According to Erdan: "The problem with the tour that you did for Gere is that it is a part of your despicable activity, funded with foreign capital, a biased tour that completely blackens the face of the State and our soldiers. "Tell us, also, according to your approach: What did Israel gain from the fact that you also caused Richard Gere to believe that there is apartheid here (a repugnant and morbid lie, but we'll let that pass for now)? How exactly did this advance your goals? Thanks to the tour you arranged for him in Hevron, also this charming and influential man detests us; are you really pleased with that? Was this a successful day for you, telling a guest from abroad how cruel our soldiers are?", wondered Erdan. "I assume you did not tell Gere during the Hevron tour how many Palestinian terrorists came from there during the terror wave, how many brainwashed terrorists ran with a knife at Israelis aiming to brutally slash their throats ... I guess you did not tell the American guest that in London, as here, we are dealing with radical Islamic terror that seeks to drain our lifeblood. You were content to present him a distorted picture, to send press releases to the foreign media and your donors outside of Israel in order to harvest another few dollars. The money will perhaps reach you, but the bill will be paid by our soldiers. You are dust at the feet of our fighters, the heroes of this country. Shame on you," Erdan concluded. 3. 'JEWISH LAW IS VITAL FOR THE STATE OF ISRAEL' by Hezki Baruch Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked has instructed the Jewish Law Department in the Justice Ministry to give her its opinion on every relevant bill which comes to the Knesset Law Committee, in order to further entrench Jewish law in the State of Israel. The Jewish Law Department currently holds 3 positions and is today headed by Dr. Michael Vigoda. Shaked plans to make an announcement of these developments at a conference on Jewish law to be held today in Jerusalem by the Israel Bar Association. "Just as the Committee gets the opinion of the Attorney General, there’s no reason that it should not also get the opinion of the Jewish Law Department," Shaked will say to those present at the conference. Two years ago, upon taking the position of Justice Minister, Shaked had spoken similarly at a conference on civil law. "Jewish law, the crown jewel of Jewish creativity for 2,000 years, still has not found its rightful place in our legal system, apparently mainly due to a lack of knowledge about it," she had said. "As is known, in general the courts ignore, practically speaking, the intent of the lawmaker and the spirit of the law, and seldom take inspiration from Jewish law," she had said. "They prefer different, foreign legal methods over Jewish law - the work of the best minds of our nation from Rabbi Akiva to the Rambam, Rabbi Yosef Karo to Rabbi Kook and those who came afterward. We need to be sorry about this and work to change this distortion." "In my opinion, Jewish law can and needs to be one of the threads connecting the values of the past and the values and needs of the present, and not just on a nominal level. This connection seems to me to be vital for the State of Israel as a Jewish State," she added. 4. MKS AND PARTY ACTIVISTS TO RELEASE LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR BENNETT by Yedidya Ben Or As the April 27 date of the Jewish Home party primaries looms, a letter of support is set to be published at the end of the week, in which some 120 supporters, including MKs and Jewish Home party activists, call on people to "express their trust in Naftali Bennett and support his continued leadership of the Jewish Home party." Among other things, the letter says that Bennett’s "significant, unprecedented accomplishments are well-known in the fields of education, security, the legal system, social activism, Zionist settlement, and in the other fields of life influencing each and every one of us." Among the signatories to the letter are Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, Deputy Defense Minister Eli Ben-Dahan, and Faction Chairman MK Shuli Mualem. So far, 5 have announced their candidacy to head the Jewish Home party. 5. WATCH: VIDEO DOCUMENTS MOMENTS OF LONDON TERROR ATTACK by Arutz Sheva Staff [youtube:2026189] The number of murdered in the terror attack near the British Parliament on Wednesday rose over the course of the night to 4, including 3 civilians and a policeman. 40 were wounded in the attack. The terrorist was killed after being shot by security forces. In a video released last night documenting the attack, the terrorist can be seen accelerating as he plows into the sidewalk on Westminster Bridge. Police forces raided a hotel in Birmingham and closed down part of the city for about two hours in the area in which which it is suspected that the terrorist rented the car with which he carried out the attack. An official announcement from police has not yet been released regarding the details of the raid. London Police called on citizens to avoid populous areas. Following the attack, the area surrounding the British Parliament was blocked off, and a lockdown imposed on the Parliament building for several hours. Mark Rowley, head of the anti-terrorism unit of British Police, said that police suspect that the terrorist was "inspired by international terrorism" - and that they believed they knew who he was. He did not release further details, however. British Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday evening denounced the attack as "sick and depraved," asserting that the location of the attack was no accident. "The terrorists chose to strike at the heart of our capital city, where people of all nationalities, religions and cultures come together to celebrate the values of liberty, democracy and freedom of speech," she said. "These streets of Westminster – home to the world’s oldest Parliament – are ingrained with a spirit of freedom that echoes in some of the furthest corners of the globe. And the values our Parliament represents – democracy, freedom, human rights, the rule of law – command the admiration and respect of free people everywhere. That is why it is a target for those who reject those values." 6. According to witnesses, a car mowed down a dozen pedestrians on the Westminster Bridge before crashing into the gates outside of the Portcullis House, The Sun reported. Two men have reportedly been shot by police after attempting to to stab officers outside of the Houses of Parliament. "We heard a loud bang, lots of shouting and saw men running around. Someone rushed through, attacked a policeman," a witness told The Sun. "He appeared to be carrying a knife or a gun. We then heard gunfire, five or six rounds." In addition to the three victims. the terrorist was also killed. "We were called at approx 2:40 pm to reports of an incident at Westminster Bridge. Being treated as a firearms incident - police on scene," the Metropolitan police announced on Twitter. Parliament sessions have been suspended following the incident. Commons Leader David Lidington told MPs: "What I am able to say to the House is there has been a serious incident within the estate. It seems that a police officer has been stabbed, that the alleged assailant was shot by armed police." "An air ambulance is currently attending the scene to remove the casualties. "There are also reports of further violent incidents in the vicinity of the Palace of Westminster but I hope colleagues on all sides will appreciate that it'd be wrong of me to go into further details until we have confirmation from the police and from the House security authorities about what is going on." The London police announced that they are treating the incident as a terrorist attack. Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely condemned the attack. "Israel expresses its deep shock at the terror attack in London today and its solidarity with the victims and with the people and government of Great Britain. Terror is terror wherever it occurs and we will fight it relentlessly." Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, said: "Israel stands as one with the British people as we all work together to defeat the scourge of terrorism. We send our condolences and wish a speedy recovery to all those injured." [twittervideo:2026169] [twittervideo:2026170] 8.
