This holiday reminds us that brave men and women have defended the Jewish homeland since the time of the Maccabees. That legacy lives on in the brave soldiers of the IDF.

I can tell you that, as an IDF soldier and commander, it is invaluable for these courageous young men and women to receive our holiday well-wishes, and to know that as they look after Israel, there are tens of thousands of supporters across the ocean looking after them.
It is a huge boost to their morale to see these cards pour in from Friends of the IDF around the United States and Panama. This taste of holiday joy helps them so much as they serve on the front lines, protecting their country, their people, and the Jewish people worldwide.
