1. TWO WOUNDED IN STABBING ATTACK IN OLD CITY OF JERUSALEM
by David Rosenberg

Three Israeli police officers were wounded by an Arab terrorist Wednesday afternoon near the Lions' Gate of the Old City of Jerusalem.

The terrorist stabbed the officers with a screwdriver before being shot and neutralized. He is now reportedly in critical condition.

MDA first responders were called to the scene and provided first aid to a man, roughly 35 years of age, who was lightly injured in the attack.

A United Hatzalah spokesperson said medics treated three individuals injured in the attack, though it is unclear if the terrorist was among the three.

One of the victims of the attack is an Arab boy, about 12 years of age.

MDA paramedic Re'em Naimi described the scene of the attack: "We saw a man, about 35-years old, fully conscious, with a stab wound in his upper body. We provided first aid and then evacuated him to a hospital while continuing to treat his wounds; he is in light, stable condition."

"People at the scene brought us a boy from eastern Jerusalem who had a head wound, and claimed that he had been attacked by the terrorist. After treating him, we also evacuated him to the hospital."

The injured have been transferred to Hadassah Mount Scopus and Shaarei Tzedek hospitals.

This is a developing story.

MK Manuel Trajtenberg joined in an impromptu protest Wednesday morning at the entrance to the Knesset building, stripping in solidarity with several female parliamentary aides unhappy with the legislature's new dress code. The code, which sets standards for acceptable dress in the country's parliament building, was issued earlier this month.

According to the new rules, both visitors and employees are prohibited from wearing the following pieces of clothing in the Knesset building: tank tops, cropped tops, shorts, ripped pants, clothing bearing explicitly political slogans, flip flops, and miniskirts.

Those changes did not sit well with several young aides to Knesset Members, who on Wednesday showed up for work deliberately flouting the dress code, appearing scantily clad at the entrance to the Knesset building.

The aides, who work for leftist Yesh Atid MKs Yael German and Karin Elharar, were barred from entering the building, as per Knesset regulations.

Opposition MK Manuel Trajtenberg (Zionist Union), who blasted the restrictions, sarcastically suggesting the female aides needed to come dressed in full-body Islamic cloaks. Trajtenberg proceeded to strip down to his underclothes at the Knesset entrance, in an unorthodox, some would say unfitting, sign of solidarity with the protesting aides.

3. DEPUTY MAYOR: MOVING US EMBASSY TO JERUSALEM EMBARRASSES ISRAEL
by Ido Ben Porat

Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem Ofer Berkovitch turned to Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Moshe Kachlon, saying the Israeli government should move the offices it maintains in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, before President-elect Donald Trump moves the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Israel's capital city.

Berkovitch, who also serves as chairman of the Hitorerut Movement which aims to improve Jerusalem socially, municipally, and nationally, wrote in a letter that if the US Embassy is moved to Jerusalem before Israel's government's offices are moved, it would be "an embarrassment to the Israeli government." He asked the government to take care of the issue as soon as possible, considering the fact that those government's offices are illegally located in Tel Aviv.

Israeli law requires all government offices to be situated in the capital city of Jerusalem.

According to Berkovitch, there are currently 75 government offices, with over 4,000 government workers, outside Jerusalem, in violation of the Basic Laws of Jerusalem, Capital of Israel and The Government. These offices and workers, Berkovitch explained, could and should be strengthening Israel's capital city.

"I bless President-elect Donald Trump for his intention to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem, This is an important step which will strengthen Jerusalem's status in the world," Berkovitch said. "In addition, I call on the Prime Minister and Finance Minister to immediately move the Israeli government's offices to Jerusalem, before our government finds itself embarrassed. The Israeli government must strengthen Jerusalem with actions, not with words."

4. NETANYAHU: THEY HAVE A LOVE OF ISRAEL AND A LOVE OF FELLOW MEN
by Uzi Baruch

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met on Tuesday with representatives of Azerbaijan's Jewish community, and spoke about the good relationship between the two countries. Netanyahu met the representatives at the local Chabad school "Or Avner."

The Netanyahu couple met first with the school's students, and had a friendly, open conversation with them. Sara Netanyahu asked about their homes and the Jewish customs they practice, as well as about their study of the Hebrew language. The students also spoke to the Netanyahus about the weekly Torah portion. The Netanyahus mentioned that their son once won the International Bible Contest, and Binyamin Netanyahu reads the weekly Torah portion with his son every week when he returns home from the army.

The group also discussed the upcoming holiday of Hanukkah, the Greeks, and the Maccabees' revolt.

The students also mentioned their daily routines, and said they pray every morning, go to synagogue, eat kosher food, and observe the Shabbat (Jewish Sabbath) and holidays. They also sang Hebrew songs and waved Israeli and Azerbaijani flags.

Sara Netanyahu blessed the students, saying, "We hope you'll come to Israel, to visit and to live. We're waiting for you."

"I am happy to be here with you, with the honorees of the Jewish community and of Chabad," Binyamin Netanyahu said. "My wife and I are happy to be here for two reasons: One, we love Azerbaijan, and two, we love Chabad. The relationship between us and Azerbaijan is very close, and it will be even better after this visit."

"I want to say something about Chabad," he continued. "32 years ago, I met the Lubavitcher Rebbe for the first time. I went to the UN, to be Israel's ambassador there, and the Rebbe told me, 'You're going to the house of eternal darkness.' As you know, he did not think highly of the UN. At any rate, he told me, 'You're going to the house of eternal darkness. Remember that if you light one candle of truth, it will spread its holy light until it is visible by those who are far away.' And I try to do exactly as the Rebbe told me.

"But I have to say there are other situations as well. Sometimes you light a candle in a place which already has light, and this is the situation here in Baku, in Azerbaijan. The Rebbe taught us to love Israel and to love mankind, and this is what you've created here. Former President Heydar Aliyev, and his son President Ilham Aliyev have founded and managed a fund to support, as the honored minister has said, Jewish education in a Muslim country. And contrary to what former MK Rivlin said, we also help out. The State of Israel does in fact aid this goal," Netanyahu said.

"It's impossible not to be moved by these wonderful children here, but I'm also moved by something else, by these two flags here, one with a Star of David and one with a crescent moon, flying side by side. Look at these two flags, this is what we're showing the entire world, this is what can and should be. It's exactly the opposite of darkness, it's light, a light which brightens and banishes the darkness. This is the goal, this is what we work towards in Israel, in Azerbaijan, in Chabad, and hopefully, with G-d's help, we will accomplish the same in other places around the world. For that I am very happy to be here with you, and I thank you. I thank you with all my heart," Netanyahu concluded.

The Netanyahus left on Tuesday morning for a two-day trip to Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, with the purpose of strengthening Israel's ties with the two countries.

5. WOMAN DIES AFTER C-SECTION
by Hezki Baruch

A 35-year-old resident of Abu Gosh was taken for an emergency cesarean section after the hospital staff discovered placental abruption. On Tuesday evening, just a few hours after the operation, the mother died of amniotic fluid embolism.

Hospital staff report this to be an unusual circumstance, occurring only once in every 40,000 births. Symptoms of amniotic fluid embolism are sudden heart failure and lung failure, as well as damage to the blood clotting system, which leads to heavy bleeding.

They also said there are no warning signs and no ways to prevent amniotic fluid embolism, and the death rate for cases which involve cardiac arrest is over 90%.

The Arab mother arrived at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital with placental abruption, and was immediately taken for cesarean section to save the baby's life. Immediately after the surgery, the mother experienced cardiac arrest and general system failure, both classic signs of severe amniotic fluid embolism to the lungs.

"Hospital staff immediately began attempts to resuscitate the patient and fought for her life for more than 24 hours. Unfortunately, she could not be saved, and her death was confirmed this evening," the hospital said. "We send condolences to the family and feel their pain."

A notice has been sent to the Health Ministry, as well as to a social worker who will be working with the woman's family.

6. 'THEY'RE STEALING OUR HISTORY!'
by Orly Harari

An Arab gang of antiquities thieves were arrested last week after they were caught in the act while raiding ancient tombs in northern Israel.

The gang, made up of three residents of the Arab village of Tur'an in northern Israel, were nabbed by Israel Antiquities Authority agents, backed up by Border Police officers, who found the thieves searching through ancient burial grounds and tombs in Horbat Mishkena, a Roman-era Jewish town.

The thieves were searching for valuables in the archaeological site, while causing irreparable damage to the ruins.

"The town Mishkena is mentioned in the Jerusalem Talmud as a Jewish village about halfway from Tzippori to Tiberias," said IAA official Nir Distalfeld. "Inside the hewn burial caves, often marked by a heavy stone, sometimes there are items which were used in funeral ceremonies."

"Today, these items are in great demand on the antiquities market. Gangs of thieves search burial chambers for these items, which can be found whole, as they were the day they were placed there, since they were protected in the grave for hundreds and thousands of years. For money, these thieves are destroying our history and erasing pieces of the country's archaeological puzzle."

7. TRUMP OFFERS INTERIOR SECRETARY POSITION TO MONTANA LAWMAKER
by Ben Ariel

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has offered the interior secretary position to Montana Representative Ryan Zinke, two transition officials and someone familiar with the offer told Politico on Tuesday.

The sources said Zinke, an ex-Navy Seal commander, has yet to accept and has given no indication as to which way he is leaning. Zinke is also being discussed by prominent Washington Republicans as a possible 2018 candidate for the Montana Senate seat now held by Democrat Sen. Jon Tester, according to Politico.

Zinke's office declined to comment, and Trump's transition team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Zinke, an early Trump supporter, threw his weight behind Trump in late May and stuck by him despite numerous Democratic attacks for doing so. He also campaigned with him, and his wife, Lola, is a member of the transition team dealing with veterans issues.

The offer comes just days after multiple news outlets reported that House Republican Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) was the favorite to win the position. Multiple top Trump aides were not sold on the Washington Republican, however, and encouraged Trump to broaden his search, according to Politico.

She, Zinke and Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho) all interviewed for the job Monday.

The Trump team reportedly called Zinke last Thursday, and asked him to come in for the interview. He was traveling by plane on Tuesday evening, but is expected to accept Trump's offer when he lands.

As interior secretary, Zinke would oversee about one-fifth of the nation's land, including national parks, wildlife refuges, tribal lands and areas ripe for drilling, mining, wind and solar development, and oil and gas pipelines.

Zinke could help Trump unravel the department's recently finished five-year road map for offshore oil and gas drilling.

On climate change, Zinke has called for a "prudent" approach to the issue that does not do too much damage to the coal industry, according to Politico.

Trump's cabinet continues to take shape, after he officially named Rex Tillerson as his nominee for Secretary of State earlier on Tuesday.

On Monday, Trump nominated retired General John Kelly as his choice for Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

Other appointments include Dr. Ben Carson as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and retired General James Mattis as Defense Secretary.
