1. YISHAI SCHLISSEL PLANNED ATTACK ON PRIDE PARADE FROM JAIL CELL
by Ari Soffer
Police have revealed that convicted serial stabber Yishai Schlissel, who murdered one person and wounded several others in during last year's Jerusalem Pride Parade, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to coordinate an attack on this year's parade.
Haredi extremist Schlissel is currently serving a life term for the murder of Shira Banki at the 2015 parade. Police say he made contact with people outside the prison where he is being held in preparation for an attack.
Specifically, police intelligence indicates he enlisted his brother Michael - who is currently in police custody - to carry out an attack and disrupt the march, which is set to take place today.
Yishai Schlissel was arrest in his cell yesterday (Wednesday), and was brought in for questioning in Jerusalem. Today he will appear before Jerusalem District Court to respond to a police request to hold him in their custody until Sunday.
His brother Michael was also arrested on Wednesday, and his detention was extended until today. Other family members were also arrested, and are still under investigation despite having been soon released with some conditions - including a police restraining order banning them from the area of the gay march.
Jerusalem District Police Commander Yoram Halevi outlined the ongoing police investigation in a statement:
"We thwarted and prevented intentions to harm human life during the course of the parade itself. The parade will take place as planned without any changes. It is our intention to enable the general public to exercise their freedom of expression and protest, as part of the democratic character of the State of Israel."

3. LIBERMAN: WOULD IDF RADIO PRAISE HITLER'S WORK?
by Uzi Baruch
Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman met early Thursday afternoon with the director of IDF Radio, Yaron Dakal, to discuss a controversial program which focused on the work of Arab ultranationalist poet Mahmoud Darwish.
Darwish, an ardent opponent of Jewish self-determination, is seen as a figurehead for many anti-Zionists, and the show drew widespread anger and condemnation.
IDF Radio is Israel's most popular radio station.
During the meeting, Liberman reportedly minced no words in voicing his displeasure, but insisted he would not be intervening in the channel's broadcasts.
"There is no intervention by the political echelon in the programs broadcast on IDF Radio," he said. "But the mission of the army radio station in a democratic and complex society like Israeli society is to strengthen solidarity within society, not to deepen divisions and certainly not to offend public sensibilities."
"There is a big difference between freedom of expression and freedom of incitement, and it is incumbent on the heads of the station to clarify this (fact) to (its) anchors, writers and editors." Liberman continued.
The defense minister noted to Dekel that Darwish's work includes calls for the demise of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel, as well as violent passages such as "the flesh of the occupier will be my food". Such things cannot be a part of the Israeli narrative, as the channel had attempted to frame Darwish, Liberman insisted.
"According to that logic, we could include the heritage of the (pro-Nazi) Mufti (of Jerusalem, Hajj Amin) al-Husseini into the Israeli narrative, or to praise on air the literary quality of Mein Kampf," Liberman stated.
He further recalled that even the left-wing former Deputy Defense Minister Tzvi Dinstein had remarked about Darwish in the Knesset: "Mahmoud Darwish incites in an unrestrained manner against the State of Israel and the Jewish nation which resides there, and encourages hostility towards them in his songs and public appearances."
In response, Dekel told the defense minister that his role as defending freedom of expression does not mean he agrees with all the content on the station, though he acknowledged that contending Darwish's work is part of the Israeli narrative may not have been appropriate.
4. 'PRICE TAG ATTACKERS' RELEASED TO HOUSE ARREST
by Rachel Kaplan
Two of the teenagers suspected of arson attacks in Kfar Yafia have been released to house arrest.
The youths allegedly set cars on fire in the Arab village, in a "price tag" attack in response to a terror attack in Sharona, Tel Aviv, which left four dead. A third boy is facing charges for not stopping the crime.
Today, after an agreement between the two sides, Judge Avraham Avraham, of the District Court of Nazareth released the two to house arrest, on condition that they each wear an electronic tracker.
The two spent the past week first in a Shabak facility, and then in prison. For several days they were denied legal counsel, or visitations from their families.
Attorney Lior Bar Zohar of the Honenu organization, who is representing the pair, wrote in a statement that "we are satisfied that the minors were released to house arrest today. It proves that the efforts of the prosecutors and Shabak to pin serious security crimes on them, which never existed and never will, have failed. "
According to the indictment submitted against them on Tuesday, the minors decided to take revenge for the terror wav, and so armed themselves with spray paint and a bottle of gasoline. After hearing about the attack in Sharona, Tel Aviv, they decided to torch vehicles in Kfar Yafia.
The day after, late at night, the two left Migdal Haemek wearing hoodies and gloves, and carrying a backpack with spray paint cans and gasoline. The two first encountered trucks with the Strauss symbol on them, and since they feared that the trucks belonged to Jews, they continued into the village, arrived at a parking lot, and climbed over its fence.
One of the suspects sprayed on 3 parked trucks the words: "Revenge of the murdered of Tel Aviv," "Revenge," and "price tag." Afterwards, they burnt a car which was parked in the area. The fire caused the car next to it to go up in flames as well, and partial damage to the surrounding area. Afterward, the two returned to Migdal Haemek.
The minors report that they were held under difficult conditions in the Shabak facility, and were refused legal counsel. They described how the interrogators pulled their heads backward, cursed them and spit on them, and threatened to withhold sleep until they confessed.
5. ISRAELI SUPERMARKET CHAIN LETS YOU SKIP CHECKOUT LINE
by David Rosenberg
Grocery shopping in Israel is about to get much easier, with a new app allowing shoppers to pay for items using their smartphone and circumventing checkout lines.
A new system produced by the Israeli startup SuperSmart allows users to perform their own checkouts, scanning product barcodes to tally up the total.
For fruits and vegetables, a weighing machine gives shoppers digital barcodes which can then be scanned with the smartphone app.
To prevent theft and mistaken purchases, customers bring their shopping carts to a large scanning machine which verifies the contents of the cart.
The system is currently being used in a trial run at a branch of the Osher Ad supermarket chain in Tel Aviv. If successful, the self-checkout app system will be made available at Osher Ad's other branches around the country.
SuperSmart CEO Yair Cleper hopes the new grocery shopping application will put an end to long waits at the checkout counter in Israel and, eventually, around the world.
"When we decided to solve the problem of shopping lines, we wanted to provide a simple, quick and friendly solution to shoppers," said Cleper. "At the same time, we are reducing the workload off of the cashiers with the aid of technology that does not involve high costs or long installation processes."
"What we are bringing to the world of shopping will soon be felt across the world in a number of big retail stores with which we have signed agreements to integrate our technology."
6. MAJORITY OPPOSE GAY PRIDE PARADES IN CITY CENTER
by David Rosenberg
A majority of Israelis oppose allowing gay pride parades to march down city centers, though most would permit such events in side areas.
The poll, conducted by Ariel Ayalon and Tel Aviv University's Camil Fuchs on behalf of Walla News, was published on Thursday, just hours ahead of this year's Jerusalem gay pride parade.
The controversial annual event, which has drawn protests from the city's religious residents, is held in the city's main thoroughfare, Yafo Street.
According to the poll, 50% of Israelis are opposed to such events being held in central areas of Israeli cities. A large minority of 44%, however, favor allowing gay pride parades even in the center of Israeli towns.
A significant number (23%) of Israelis did favor a compromise, allowing gay pride events to take place in smaller venues outside of city centers, while a minority (27%) opposed any such events regardless of their location.
While respondents were fairly evenly split on the issue of gay pride parades, the overwhelming majority said they rejected Rabbi Yigal Levinstein's use of the term "deviants" to describe homosexuals.
Only 19% of Israelis said they agreed with the description, while 71% disagreed. Among secular Jews, a whopping 92% said they disagreed, compared with 74% of traditional Jews, 44% of religious Jews, and 19% of haredi Jews.
7. HAREDI WOMAN DROPS 75 POUNDS TO DONATE HER KIDNEY
by David Rosenberg
For most, the notion of serving as a living donor – that is offering one's internal organs to those in need – is a daunting prospect; a sacrifice few would make unless absolutely required by a loved one.
But one Brooklyn woman not only took the plunge, she literally reshaped her life to qualify as a donor – all to give up one of her kidneys to a total stranger.
Hindy Messinger, a 41-year old mother of three and grandmother of two from Borough Park spent five years preparing herself to meet the requirements to serve as a living donor, including losing 75 pounds (34 kilograms).
"The whole time I was losing weight, my thoughts were to give a kidney," said Messinger.
"Six months after I lost my weight I called Cornell [Medical Center]. 'So I'm gonna be able to donate a kidney now? Will I be able to donate a kidney?' They said 'no, not yet.' I wanted to donate a kidney already. This is why I'm doing this."
Even after her amazing weight loss, Messinger was required to wait 12 months ensure that her overall health permitted the surgery.
When Messinger began the process, she had intended to give her kidney to a cousin in need of a donor.
"She called me one day crying on the phone and she tells me 'I have a kidney problem, and I would like you to help me call Renewal [donor organization]".
"It made my heart ache seeing her on dialysis. After that she was like a zombie. I couldn't see this."
"I wanted to save her so badly, but I couldn't."
Five years later, however, Messinger fulfilled the requirements to donate, even though her cousin no longer required the donation. Instead, she gave her kidney to Barry Bichler, a man she had never met before the operation.
8. RNC CROWD CALLS FOR HILLARY CLINTON TO BE 'LOCKED UP'
by Shai Landesman
[youtube:2017385]
"Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up!" chanted the crowd on the second day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
They were referring to presumptive Democratic Party Nominee Hillary Clinton of course, as the US Presidential election kicks into high gear after Donald Trump was officially nominated as the Republican candidate on Tuesday.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was speaking at the convention, taking the opportunity to draw on his experience as a former federal prosecutor to conduct a court-style cross-examination of Clinton's record, to the crowd's roaring approval.
Christie - who was recently snubbed by Trump for VP candidate - went through accusations against former First Lady and Secretary of State Clinton one by one, pausing to ask the crowd "Guilty or not guilty?", to which they invariably replied "Guilty!"
When the Governor began recounting the recent Email scandal, in which the Justice Department - by the FBI's recommendation - decided not to prosecute Clinton for storing Emails containing classified information on a private server, the crowd starting chanting that she should be locked up.
The chant was widely denounced in the media as yet another example of the inflammatory rhetoric that seems to often surround the Trump campaign, though not officially condoned by Trump or his campaign officials.
A far more extreme example is the comment made by Al Baldasaro, who is loosely affiliated with the Trump campaign, to the effect that Hillary Clinton should be executed for treason.
Speaking Tuesday on the Kuhner Report, a conservative radio show in Boston, Baldasaro said that "Hillary Clinton should be put in the firing line and shot for treason."
Baldasaro has appeared with Trump at a press conference, and has called himself an adviser to Trump on military veterans' issues, according to Washington Post reports, but has no official position within the campaign.
He even doubled down on the comments a day later in an interview with New Hampshire radio station WMUR: "As far as I'm concerned, it is treason and the penalty for treason is the firing squad - or maybe it's the electric chair now."
The Trump campaign has officially distanced itself from the comments, that have even prompted a secret service investigation.
