1. Deputy FM tears apart 'Palestinian refugee' mythby Chana Roberts Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) spoke to Fox News about the Arab-Israeli conflict and the United Nations' role in perpetuating the myth of Palestinian refugees. "First of all what's really good about the way this administration is thinking about the region in general [is] they understand that still the biggest issue is Iranian issue," Hotovely said. "The fact [is] that Israel today, more than ever, has closer relations with the moderate Arab countries such as Egypt and Jordan, and even Saudi Arabia." Hotovely believes that many people understand the conflict will not be resolved until the Palestinian Authority changes the way it educates children. "We were just talking about the fact that their textbooks unfortunately are still full of hate and the denial of the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state," she explained. "And this is I think the key to get forward in the peace process." Regarding the relief the United Nations provides to the Palestinian Arabs, Hotovely noted that the "UN bias against Israel" goes through "certain agencies." She believes that since America is the main donor and the funds come off American taxpayers' money, US taxpayers deserve transparency. "Some people don't even know where the money is going to," she noted. "Think about it, you're giving your money in order to make sure that there won't be any more refugees, and what this agency is doing is creating more and more refugees. This is ridiculous." Regarding UNRWA itself (the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East), Hotovely said the UN is "creating a myth that the Palestinians are supposed to be refugees when they're actually not. "International law speaks about one generation of refugees," she explained. "And then afterwards of course they need to be resettled. "The Palestinians were speaking about five generations after the 1948 war - the war they started. They were attacking Israel, they were trying to make sure that Israel won't exist on the Middle East map, and they lost the war. "They're not accepting this fact... They're actually educating their children, their grandchildren, their great-grandchildren on the idea they're refugees from Israel... This is something that must stop, because the way the UN in general is dealing with the refugee problem is that they have the agency, UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) and...they're trying to make sure there will be fewer refugees every year. "The Palestinians are the only population in the world that the refugees are just growing." Hotovely also noted that in the last Gaza operation in 2014, "some of those UNRWA schools were part of Hamas actions against Israel, the IDF, and Israeli children, in the south of Israel." 2. 'Abbas begat Oslo - and he'll bury it'by Mordechai Sones Environmental Protection Minister and cabinet member Zeev Elkin (Likud) spoke this morning (Wednesday) at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, marking the 24th anniversary of the signing of the Oslo Accords. "Abbas has rendered the Palestinian system completely impotent and that's what's allowed him to survive until now," Elkin said. According to him, the PA chairman does not leave behind himself an orderly system of government: "He is Oslo's undertaker and he is consciously doing this," added Elkin. "Not many people remember but Abbas was the one who whispered in Arafat's ear and motivated him to continue and he apparently will bury it," he said. Elkin further said that Israel is not well-prepared for the post-Abbas era. He explained that the challenges facing Israel on the security front, i.e., confronting the PAs regular forces and the Tanzim would be a problem that would be difficult to deal with. According to Minister Elkin, any security official or wealthy individual can hire himself an armed force in order to take control, whether over the entire PA or over a certain area. He warned that it would create anarchy. Minister Elkin estimated that there are additional challenges that need to be addressed in the post-Abbas era, such as the challenge of controlling the population that will fall upon Israel, and the challenge of intervention in education, religion, and media in the PA that Israel is currently avoiding. Elkin also does not expect elections to be held in the PA after Abbas's departure. 3. Human Rights Watch targets Israeli banksby Arutz Sheva Staff As part of its ongoing BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) campaign against Israel, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) published a report and press release targeting Israel banks. HRW is close to several Western governments and international institutions. Its publications reflect the absence of professional standards, research methodologies, and military and legal expertise, as well as a deep-seated ideological bias against Israel.deep-seated ideological bias against Israel. This represents HRW's third major BDS initiative in 2017 alone, notes NGO Monitor. "Economic warfare against the Israeli financial system has long been a goal of anti-Israel activists," said NGO Monitor Legal Adviser Anne Herzberg. "It is also clear that HRW has timed the release of this publication to coincide with the preparation of the discriminatory UN Human Rights Council blacklist, currently being prepared by UN functionaries in conjunction with BDS groups like HRW." US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley reportedly threatened that the US would leave the council altogether if the blacklist was published. Under the leadership of Ken Roth, HRW was a major participant at the launch of BDS at the infamous Durban Conference in 2001, and Sarah Leah Whitson (Director of HRW's Middle East division) participated in the first BDS rally in the United States in 2004. In recent years, HRW has pursued BDS at the United Nations against FIFA, quarries and real estate brokers. NGO Monitor notes that HRW's increased BDS activity follows the hiring of BDS activist Omar Shakir to head its Israel desk. In addition, HRW's "Israel/Palestine program" received a donation in June 2017 from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, one of the main US funders of BDS. "HRW's pseudo-legal arguments and sophistry do not stand up to scrutiny and cannot create legal obligations where none exists," Herzberg added. "BDS is not about human rights, and, this publication reflects HRW's long-standing pattern of singling out Israel." 4. Rabbi Amsalem: Supreme Court restores sanity to the Stateby Rabbi Haim Amsalem Again the High Court of Justice brings a little sanity to the State! "Will then your brothers come to war while you sit here?" The "drafted-so-to-speak" law has been abolished, and it is clear that the haredi parties would be howling. They love the wonderful situation that the government depends on, and all the coalition parties tremble from, the "Lizman-Deri-Gafni" cartel. There have not been good days for the haredi parties for the last two years, in which proposals for a solution to the inequality of the burden have failed, discrimination against recruits, and the Israbluff continues, with multi-million budgets to preserve and intensify the situation, to burying any attempt to solve the problems of Jewish identity and conversion, to a near imposition of haredi ideology by political force on any given subject according to their own views. All the Zionist parties know that this situation is bad for the State and bad for the Jewish people, but they are silent: These ones because they depend on a coalition with them, and those ones who dream of a future coalition with them. This has been the situation for several decades, in which they are the deciding factor and thumb their noses at the majority of the people. The minority dominates the majority, and everyone is afraid of the Litzmanesque bluster and style. As always, they exhibit great audacity, always talking in the name of "the people"; who appointed them? "The people" suffer the situation that a minority dictates to the majority; they rub their eyes time after time and don't believe it's happening to them ... I appeal to the party I joined two years ago, the Religious Zionist Party, the "Jewish Home" you/we, who consecrate IDF service as being considered a "mitzva" (commandment), and who espouse the integration of Torah and practical life - enough of these feelings of inferiority! Without hesitation or shame, they must make their voice heard that cancellation of the discriminatory law that ostensibly comes in the name of the Torah should be welcomed, and enough establishing these "yeshivas" for those who neither learn nor work. The Sages said: "Any Torah that does not take placed alongside work is eventually null and leads to sin". In recent years thank G-d it has been proven that it is also possible to fulfill Torah and mitzvot and to enlist ... Anyone who's really learning should learn. All the rest - to the recruitment office or to National Service, and of course the IDF will adapt itself to the Haredi norms, as it proved it is willing and able to do ... Translated by Mordechai Sones. 5. There's no reason to fight haredimby Amiram Levin Integration of haredim into the job market and the IDF is unavoidable. It's happening by itself. With or without a law, with or without the Supreme Court. There's no reason to fight haredim. Certainly, not if the fight is aimed at procuring additional Knesset seats. Those who wish to unite instead of divide, do not solve problems with a thrust of an axe, especially not when those problems are connected to faith, worldview, and lifestyles which have developed over the course of seventy years. Let's admit the truth: The financial investment required to enlist haredi soldiers, who often have several children, is disproportionate. The IDF does not lack for soldiers. However, the amount of many we pay for the haredim to learn Torah has been blown out of proportion, and we need to significantly reduce it. The truth challenge is to integrate haredim into society and the Israeli economy. Later, in a natural - and in my opinion, unavoidable - process, we will accelerate their integration into the IDF - when they are willing, at the right time, and legally. We can continue the politics and press conferences for the purpose of inciting and dividing Israeli society. Or we can find a compromise which will serve both the haredi community and the Israeli economy. The haredim want to integrate, they want to earn a living, and they are an important and integral part of the Jewish nation. 6. 'The next war will be very different'by Mordechai Sones President Reuven Rivlin visited Brigade 226, the Reserves Paratroopers Brigade of Division 319, the Reserve Division of the Northern Command and one of the main divisions participating in the Army Corps exercise currently underway. As part of the visit, Rivlin heard an overview of the Or Hadgan exercise's progress, which has been taking place in the north for the past week. During his visit the president participated in a situation assessment together with Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi, Brig. Gen. Nadav Lotan, and Commander of the 226th Brigade, Colonel Yaron Sharoni. The president then proceeded to a strategic observation point overlooking wide areas of northern Israel, from which he reviewed the division and received up-to-date briefings from division commanders. "The IDF's preparedness is very important for the entire Israeli home front. IDF readiness provides security to Israel's citizens," said the president. "Most of Israel's citizens are not aware of the new era in which we live, and that is good. The next war will be very different, both in terms of the enemy we face and in terms of the tasks we must undertake. "In the next war, we will have to make sure that we are prepared and protected and that we have made necessary adjustments in our preparedness. It is important for us as citizens to know that you are ready." The president thanked the forces and said: "This exercise indicates the willingness, freshness, innovation, and readiness of the IDF, and for this I came to thank you on behalf of the entire nation. "The IDFs reserve forces are a central part of the State of Israel's ability to defend, from near and far, daily life in the State of Israel," he said. 7. A wonderful new way to own a piece of the Holy Landby Infomercial [youtube:2032498] It’s no small secret that many people desire to own a piece of the Holy Land of Israel, and that many Torah commandments can only be fulfilled there. Unfortunately, that dream is out of reach for many - until now. If you have $360 to spend, and care to fulfill mitzvoth such as Possessing the Land, Shmita, Orlah, and other commandments contingent upon the Holy Land, then you can purchase four Amot (Cubits) (5ft x 5ft) plots of agricultural land in the Galilee for the price of a fancy dinner out. The "Own The Holy Land" initiative, founded by David Tavdi and Zev Zion, two New Yorkers who recently made Aliyah because of their love of the Land, seeks to connect the Diaspora to the Land of Israel in a simple and affordable way. They say “If walking four Amot is a great mitzvah, than how about owning four Amot?” Indeed, many prominent Jewish sages held that the Land of Israel and the Torah are intertwined and inseparable. So much so that it is indicated in the Talmud that merely walking four Amot in the Holy Land of Israel can gain a person a place in the World to Come. Some went on to say further that the mitzvah of Yishuv HaAretz (settling the Land) is equal to all the mitzvoth of the Torah. Rabbi Yosef Mizrachi, a popular Kiruv rabbi with a large following, is one of a number of rabbis endorsing the project. In one of his YouTube videos, Rabbi Mizrachi emphasized the importance of being able to fulfill the commandments tied to the Land of Israel. “According to the Torah, we have 613 commandments. A large portion of the commandments depend on being in the Land. People can not fulfill those commandments in exile. So two great guys who I know, who used to live in New York and moved to Jerusalem, had this great idea. How about we share with people the land we own, and we will do all the mitzvoth the Torah commands on their behalf. This is a fantastic opportunity to participate in those commandments. I strongly recommend this idea. It’s fantastic.” The initiative started just a few months ago and is catching on. According to the founders, buyers are appearing from all over the globe; some have purchased multiple lots, as many as 10 in some instances, to gift to their friends and loved ones. The purchase price is a one time expenditure, and Own The Holy Land assumes all expenses and responsibilities of farming and maintaining the land. The price is subject to change based on demand and availability. Not all of us are in a position to make Aliyah like they did, but can you think of a better and more affordable way to demonstrate your love of God's Land, and the mitzvoth contingent upon it? To learn more about the details or how it works, visit Own The Holy Land, or call David in Jerusalem at +972-(0)54-695-0437, or Zev in New York at 718-877-8944. 8. 'Our father, deal kindly with us'[youtube:2032768] The Yomim Noraim (High Holidays) are when we look back on the events of the past year, look forward to the sweetness of the coming year, then look up to our creator with the words Avinu Malkeinu (Our Father, our King) Asei Imonu Tzedaka Vchesed Vehoisheinu (do with us charity and kindness and save us). More than a prayer, asking Hashem to fill the coming year with his kindness and generosity, Avinu Malkeinu is an affirmation of our faith-- that even though we are looking back on a year with no shortage of tragedy and suffering, our faith helps us accept it as “Tzedaka Vchesed V’Hosheynu”. We may not understand precisely how, but we are confident that one day we WILL be able to look back at these events and see in them Hashem’s remarkable kindness. This new tune to Avinu Malkeinu titled “Tate Oy Tatenyu (Yiddish for 'Our father'),” was composed by R’ Pinchas Wolf, a 71 year old Detroit native. A few years ago, when most people R’ Pinchas’s age look to “slow down a bit and relax“, R’ Pinchas undertook producing and releasing the 200+original compositions he had written over the years. In the last year and a half R’ Pinchas has already released two albums featuring his very special music as performed by some of the top artists in Jewish music As the Yomim Noraim are almost upon us, R’ Pinchas felt it was the ideal time to release this stirring new niggun (tune) accompanied by an equally stirring performance courtesy of the incomparable Shlomo Simcha. Tate Oy Tatenyu will be featured on the upcoming Shirei Pinchas 3 due to be released in time for Chanukah. To fully convey the “soul” of the song and ensure that it connects with the broadest listener base possible, R’ Pinchas enlisted the talents of David Lennik of Better World Productions. Using the world famous Bialystoker shul as a backdrop , Lennik and his team elevated R’ Pinchas’ already stellar nigun and Shlomo Simcha's poignant performance into a world class, timeless message of Emunah (faith), and Bitachon (trust)that will help the listener gain an invaluable new perspective just in time for the new year.
