Two Arab arsonists were captured on Tuesday while they were lighting fires next to the Atarot industrial zone in northern Jerusalem.
Border Police officers operating out of a surveillance point spotted the fires and quickly dispatched and guided units to the scene to apprehend the terrorists.
Officers sent on foot to the area saw two Arab teenagers setting tires on fire just outside of Atarot. The pair attempted to flee, but were captured after a brief chase.
The suspects, both 16-year old residents of Jerusalem, were in possession of lighters and papers for kindling.
The two were transferred to the central police station in Jerusalem for interrogation, and are expected to be brought before a judge to have their arrests extended.
More than 2,000 fires ravaged Israel last week and through till Sunday, forcing tens of thousands of Israelis to flee their homes.
Last Thursday the Internal Security Ministry estimated that half of the fires were the result of arson.
On Sunday, Israeli police said 37 people had been arrested in connection with the fires.

2. SOLDIERS,YESHIVA STUDENTS PETITION AGAINST MIXED-GENDER UNITS
by Yoel Domb
More than a thousand soldiers and yeshiva students signed the "yeshiva students petition" in which they protested the change in the IDF standing orders on mixed-gender units and the broadening of female participation in combat units.
"We are all Yeshiva students who serve in the IDF faithfully and view army service as a mission and as a great mitzvah that we merited to fulfill in our generation, the generation of (the Jewish nation's) revival," they wrote.
"We believe that the army's resilience is not just based on its might and professionalism but mainly on its spirit. A spirit of dedication and mutual cooperation, love of the land and the people of Israel, a spirit of belief in G-d and in His Divine assistance which has accompanied us from the day of the establishment od the state until now. "Any you shall remember G-d, your Lord, as he gives you the strength to wage war." (Deuteronomy 8:18ׁ).
The yeshiva students sharply protested "the attempt to introduce into the IDF a spirit of mixed-gender service. 'Your camp shall be holy so that He (G-d) should not see anything unseemly among you and will turn away from you.' (Deuteronomy 23:15). Both male and female soldiers are dear and honored in our eyes but please do not hurt the apple of our eye, the sanctity of the (army) camp of Israel which we are so dedicated to with all of our hearts and souls."
3. 'JEWISH HOME MAY REVOLT AGAINST COALITION OVER REGULATION LAW'
by Arutz Sheva Staff
Education Minister Naftali Bennett threatened that the Jewish Home party would not cooperate with the rest of the coalition unless the Regulation Bill to legalize certain Jewish Communities in Judea and Samaria is passed.
"I informed the cabinet that we will not cooperate with the coalition until the Regulation Bill is passed," Bennett said according to a report by Army Radio. "If Kahlon does not accept coalition discipline, then neither will we."
Voting on the Regulation Bill was suspended earlier Wednesday when Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon raised objections to the proposed legislation.
Jerusalem Affairs Minister Ze'ev Elkin (Likud) told Army Radio that the Jewish Home party would only be harming itself if it violates coalition discipline, because other legislation Jewish Home is initiating would be ignored by the rest of the coalition.
Other proposed bills were removed from Wednesday's agenda as well due to concerns over coalition discipline, including the muezzin law.
4. TERRORIST GETS 16 YEARS FOR STABBING ATTACK IN JERUSALEM
by Arutz Sheva Staff
A Jerusalem district court handed down a 16-year jail sentence to Muhammad Badar, the terrorist responsible for a May, 2015 stabbing attack on HaNevi'im Street in Jerusalem.
In the attack, Badar, a resident of Abu Dis east of Jerusalem and part of the Palestinian Authority, stabbed an Israeli, lightly wounding him.
As part of a plea bargain agreement, Badar admitted his crime and was convicted of attempted murder, illegal possession of a knife in public, and illegally staying inside the pre-1967 borders for which a permit is necessary for Judea and Samaria's Arabs..
In addition to his 16-year prison term, Badar has been ordered to pay his victim 80,000 shekels ($21,000).
According to the indictment against Badar, on May 16th, 2015 he sneaked into capital illegally, with the intention of murdering random Jewish civilians.
At around 9:45 a.m. that day on Hanevi'im Street in Jerusalem, Badar selected his target, a haredi man sitting on a bench with his wife and two small children.
The victim noticed Badar as he approached holding the knife, stood up and attempted to push Badar away. During the struggle, Badar managed to stab the man in his chest, lightly wounding him.
After failing to kill his victim, Badar threw the knife at the man's head, lightly injuring him. Police responded to screams from the victim's wife and captured Badar.

A new 'Devorah' battleship entered operational service at the Haifa naval base this week. The reception ceremony was led by base commander brigadier-general David (Saar) Salame and the commander of 914 unit, Ronen Mirkam.
The Devorah was received as part of a revamping of the naval force to include three new Devorah ships manufactured by Israeli army industries. Two will patrol the southern region and one the northern region. The new Devorah is equipped with infrastructure for the most advanced weapon systems.
The Devorah was approved for operational activity after intensive voyages and training at the naval bases in Ashdod and Haifa. An IDF statement said that "Devorah 824 will represent an important aspect of the 914 unit's defense of the Northern marine border and will help to maintain security procedures in the area."
23 year old Lieutenant Dolev Ayalon of Pardesiya received the command of the Devorah after performing a number of operational functions in the navy and after receiving a certificate of excellence from the Navy's commander-in-chief last Independence Day.
Base commander David(Saar) Salame said at the ceremony that "The Devorah is an advanced operational ship with all the necessary operational capabilities. Continue to guard the northern marine border of the State of Israel, we wish you success."

6. 'I'M SORRY I WASN'T ABLE TO PROTECT YOU'
by Reut Hadar
Hundreds of mourners joined 10-year Chen Bloch on his final journey Wednesday morning, as he was laid to rest.
Bloch was killed Tuesday evening when a police patrol car ran over him as he crossed the street at a crosswalk while riding his bicycle.
The funeral procession left the Bloch family house in Tekoa at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, passing the crosswalk where Chen was killed, on the way to the Tekoa cemetery.
Chen's father, Gideon, eulogized his son, saying he always had "A spark in his eyes."
"You loved to read and to solve puzzles," said Gideon. "I love you, my pure child."
"God has convinced me that we cannot take care of our children," said Chen's mother, Adi.
"You were wearing your helmet and you crossed at the crosswalk. Your spirit was always high above – now you've joined your soul in heaven."
"You were born on Shabbat, and you found favor [in Hebrew, Chen] in God's eyes, and he decided that he wants you with him. You will meet grandmother Hannah there, and now she can also enjoy seeing your mischievous little grin. I wish I could hug you so tightly and tussle your hair, but it can't happen. I'm sorry, sweetie, that we couldn't keep you safe."
7. 'WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT ENCOURAGING INTERMARRIAGE IN ISRAEL?'
by David Rosenberg
More than 27,000 Jewish students met with Arab youth over the past year in "coexistence meetings" organized by the Ministry of Education, the State Control Committee revealed last week.
The meetings, which bring together Jewish and Arab students from across Israel, are intended to reduce cultural barriers between the two groups, foster a sense of national unity, and combat racism.
"A day in which a person is not discriminated against due to his race has yet to come," said committee chairwoman Karin Elharrar (Yesh Atid), "but the Education Ministry should work to encourage this day, and to eradicate the major problem of racism."
MK Elharrar praised the coexistence meetings, but demanded the Education Ministry take greater steps to combat racism.
"The [recently published[ State Comptroller`s report revealed that there is no master plan, and that even the existing plans have no supervisor, coordinator, no teachers` training, or guaging of displays of racism," said Elharrar, "and there is a minority of Arab teachers in Jewish schools."
During the committee hearing, Dana Friedman representing the Board of Education's Pedagogical Secretariat, testified that 578 Jewish schools held meetings with Arab students over the past year.
A spokesperson for the Lehava anti-assimilation group blasted the meetings, chastising the Education Ministry for what the group claims amounts to encouraging assimilation in Israel.
"It is very sad that the Education Minister, who says we'll fight against assimilation outside of Israel, is supporting assimilation in our holy country," the group said in a statement to Arutz Sheva. Meetings between Jewish youth and Arabs is a certain recipe for assimilation."
The Lahava spokesperson added that the organization was already aware of a number of cases of intermarriage which came about as a consequence of such meetings.
"Unfortunately there [have already] been cases [of intermarriage] that began with these meetings. The Education Minister should be encouraging meetings between secular and religious young Jews and haredi Jews, not between Jews and their enemies."
Arab MKs, on the other hand, were unimpressed with the government's efforts, and demanded radical changes in the education system.
MK Zouheir Bahloul (Zionist Union) accused the Education Ministry of "poisoning the brains of Israeli children," and demanded the government established mixed Arab-Jewish schools.
Joint List MK Yousef Jabareen suggested the state compel schools which have not held coexistence meetings to do so.
8. HACKERS TAKE OVER ISRAELI TELEVISION
by Elad Benari
Newscasts on Israeli Channels 2 and 10 were temporarily disrupted on Tuesday evening by hackers suspected to be pro-Palestinian Arab activists, Haaretz reports.
During the disruption, which lasted about half a minute, images of Muslim holy sites were shown with Muslim prayers playing in the background.
Images from the recent fires in Israel were also shown, along with the words "Allah is great" written in Hebrew.
[twittervideo:2021582]
The disruption only affected the broadcast being streamed from an open satellite link. Subscribers to Israel's YES satellite television were not affected by the incident.
Israel's broadcasting authority said in response that "this is a hostile takeover of the satellite carrying the broadcast. We view this with the utmost severity and consider an act of sabotage."
It added it was working with law enforcement officials and the defense establishment to investigate the incident.
This is not the first time that pro-Palestinian Arab hackers have taken over the Israeli television airwaves. In 2014, during Israel's counterterrorism Operation Protective Edge in Gaza, Hamas terrorists were able to temporarily take over the broadcast of Channel 10.
Some viewers who tuned in to the channel reported seeing wounded persons from Israeli airstrikes on Gaza.
The pictures of the wounded were accompanied by the following text, "Your government chose the opening hour of this campaign. If your government does not agree to our terms, then prepare yourself for an extended stay in shelters."
Hamas did the same to both Channel 10 and Channel 2 during Operation Pillar of Defense in 2012.
