1. TERROR ATTACK PREVENTED AFTER DRAMATIC HIGH SPEED CHASE
by Raphael Poch

Two Israeli Arabs from Kfar Qassam were arrested on Monday at the end of a high speed car chase which took place down the Ayalon highway in Tel Aviv.

The chase ensued after one of the two Arabs told his girlfriend that he was planning on carrying out a car ramming attack inside the city.

The two men were drinking the night before in a Herzliya pub and one of them got into a fight with his girlfriend when he saw her talking to another man. According to reports, the suspected terrorist threatened her and then added "I am going to kill some Jews. I am going to drive on the sidewalk and run them over." The girl and her friend immediately reported this to the police who began a manhunt for the two men. They were finally arrested sometime Monday morning at the end of a car chase.

After being notified by the girl, Tel Aviv police began to pursue the two men. The manhunt involved helicopters, emergency roadblocks that were setup throughout the city and the emergency call up of a large number of police officers from the Tel Aviv district and traffic enforcement.

Upon locating the suspected terrorists following a car chase police performed the procedure for arresting a suspected individual in possession of a weapon who has the intention to carry out an attack.

2. TERRORIST INFILTRATION THWARTED AT SAMARIA JEWISH TOWN
by Arutz Sheva Staff

IDF soldiers shot and wounded a terrorist who was wielding a knife near the city of Tulkarem in Samaria. The terrorist was apparently attempting to carry out an attack in the nearby Jewish town of Salit. Aside from the terrorist, no injuries were reported.

Upon conducting an investigation it was revealed that the terrorist had cut through a fence that surrounded the two towns of Salit and Tzur Natan in an attempt to infiltrate the towns and carry out an attack. The IDF soldiers who responded conducted the proper procedure to arrest a suspicious individual and attempted to arrest the terrorist. The terrorist pulled out a knife and proceeded to attack the soldiers who opened fire and shot the terrorist. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Yesterday a Palestinian drove up to a checkpoint near the town of Beit El and opened fire on the soldiers who were on duty. Three soldiers were injured and one of them was critically wounded.

3. 'IT'S NOT ENOUGH TO SAY NO TO A PALESTINIAN STATE'
by Yoni Kempinski and Ari Soffer

Among the MKs, party officials and activists at last week's Likud party mock party primaries - known as the "Likudiada" - was Nadia Matar, Co-Chair of the Women in Green organization (WiG).

Over the past half-decade WiG has led a campaign for Israeli to annex and apply full Israeli law in Judea and Samaria. Known as the "Sovereignty Initiative", it has gained steam over past several years, including endorsement from leading Likud MKs and ministers.

Speaking to Arutz Sheva on Friday, Matar explained that in her view the Israeli Right needed to provide an alternative to the Left's "two-state solution" vision, now more than ever. "For too many years the national camp has been saying no to a Palestinian state, no to capitulation to terror, no, no, no. But what is our "yes"? What is our vision?"

Matar said her and her fellow Co-Chair Yehudit Katsover were in Eilat for the Likud mega-event to encourage "those people in Likud who already believe in it ("Sovereignty"), but needed a little bit more of a push."

Prominent Likudniks who have openly endorsed WiG's campaign - including in the group's monthly publication, Sovereignty Magazine - include Minister of Immigrant Absorption and Minister of Jerusalem Affairs Ze'ev Elkin; Tourism Minister Yariv Levin; Sports and Culture Minister Miri Regev; Transport Minister Haim Katz; and Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein.

"We came to tell the Likud: you are in power now, it is not enough to say no to a Palestinian state - what is now needed is a vision," Matar said. "What is our vision? Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria, because all of Eretz Yisrael (the Land of Israel - ed.) belongs to us.

"Most people know now that the two-state solution... the call for a Palestinian state, is passe," Matar asserted. "Everyone knows that the creation of a Palestinian state in our homeland, in the Biblical heartland, is a call to suicide."

While acknowledging that Israeli annexation of Judea and Samaria - which, unlike the Golan Heights and eastern Jerusalem, was not annexed after the Six Day War but remained under IDF military rule - would pose significant challenges.

But, she argued: "We'd rather have to deal with difficulties than with the suicidal plan of the two state solution."

4. PEACE NOW FAILS TO REMOVE GUSH KATIF MEMORIAL FROM KNESSET
by Hezki Ezra

Knesset Attorney General Eyal Yinon has rejected an appeal by the head of Peace Now to remove a memorial to the Jews of Gush Katif from the Knesset.

Yariv Oppenheimer received a letter from Yinon explaining the reason for the rejection.

Yinon explained that the term "permanent monument" - which is the technicality Oppenheimer based his appeal on - does not apply to the monument that has been set up in the eastern wing of the Knesset.

"The monument is a small copy of a monument which pays tribute to the towns of Gush Katif that were evacuated as part of the disengagement plan. This copy can be both moved and removed and does not qualify in the category of a permanent monument."

"Additionally, the Speaker of the Knesset refused the request to put up a permanent monument in the Knesset commemorating the disengagement, and this is for many of the reasons that you listed in your request, as well as others."

According to Yinon, "the version of the monument which was set up does not take a stand regarding the disengagement plan one way or another, as even those who supported the plan do not deny that it was an event of national historic importance."

As such, "there is no obstacle that should prevent the Speaker of the Knesset from commemorating such an event as he sees fit and it is under his authority to do so."

Approximately 9,000 Jews were expelled from Gush Katif in Gaza and several communities in northern Samaria under the 2005 Gaza Disengagement Plan.

5. 60% OF JORDANIAN STUDENTS HAVE NEVER HEARD OF 'AL-AQSA'
by Shoshana Miskin

A new survey published by the University of Jordan raises a startling statistic which challenges quite a few deeply-rooted fundamental assumptions surrounding the Temple Mount.

The survey, conducted among 6,000 Jordanian students, asked only one question: What is al-Aqsa Mosque? The result: More than 60 percent of the students did not know how to answer.

Following the embarrassing results, the Islamic Council of Jerusalem, which operates in the Muslim University, presented the data as a severe blow and implemented new rules requiring students to pass a course on the "Jordanian Al-Aqsa Mosque."

Meir Zemach of the Lach Yerushalayim organization, which works to promote Israeli sovereignty of the capital, responded to the survey by saying this should strengthen the understanding in Israel that Jerusalem and the Temple Mount in particular, are merely being used by Islamists as a pretext for acts of terrorism in recent times.

Since the emergence of the Muslim religion in the 6th century, its two holiest cities were Mecca and Medina. Islamic scholars - including the Waqf - openly acknowledged that the Temple Mount in Jerusalem was the holiest site of the Jewish faith, and had only minimal religious significance to Muslims.

All of that changed around the early-to-mid-20th century, when "Al Aqsa" became a convenient, religiously-charged rallying cry in the battle against Zionism.

"This survey has proven once again the weak claim by Islamic movements surrounding the attachment and belonging of the Arab community to the Temple Mount," Zemach said.

It should be noted that Jordan is today in charge of the Waqf, and considers itself a "guardian" of the Temple Mount. The Waqf is vehemently opposed to any Jewish presence, be it large and small, in the complex, insisting the site should be entirely Muslim.

6. ARABS AMBUSH CHABAD EMISSARY NEAR MOUNT HEVRON
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Rabbi Yossi Nachshon, who serves as an emissary to Chabad communities in the Hevron Hills, was ambushed on Sunday by rocks thrown at him by masked Arabs.

Rabbi Nachshon, who resides in Kiryat Arba, was on his way to help IDF soldiers put on Tefillin, when several Arabs started hurling rocks and cinderblocks at his the car.

He alerted security forces who were deployed to the scene, but the Arab perpetrators managed to flee.

''While on my way to fulfill Rabbinic duties, between Kiryat Arba and the Hevron Hills, I was ambushed and my car was attacked by masked men who were hurling stones. Miraculously, the extent of the damage is only a large hole in the windshield," said Rabbi Nachshon on the Chabad On Line website.

Rabbi Nachshon said he will continue his spiritual activity despite the security tension; "Continuing operations as usual: meetings 'audiences', fulfilling the Lord's commandments, helping soldiers put on tefillin, and conducting home visits," he clarified.

7. TERROR VICTIM'S FAMILY CONFRONT TERRORIST AT COURT
by Arutz Sheva Staff

The Jerusalem District Court is holding Monday morning the trial of terrorist Khaled Kutina who ran over and killed the Shalom Sherki and seriously injuring another young woman.

About 150 family members and friends showed up, answering the call of Sherki's siblings and parents to attend the hearing and protest against the terrorist's attempt to evade his punishment via a plea bargain.

This terrorist's supporters are expected to introduce a private psychiatric evaluation that Kutina is mentally ill and was not responsible for his actions at the time of the murder.

Esther Sultan, Shalom Sherki's cousin, told Arutz Sheva, "We came here to tell to the court that what interests the public whether justice will be done."

"The public is interested if the killer of our cousin, Shalom, will get the punishment he deserves, or that it will melt away in trial after trial, excuse after excuse. Each of us has a duty to say that we are not willing for our blood to be spilled for nothing. We will not remain silent, we will not accept what is happening here," said Sultan.

Sultan explained that beyond displaying that the public is interested in this case, the demand for justice to be served in the legal system is prominent as well, so that terrorist will stop thinking that they can come up with excuses, such as emotional or mental instability, to evade punishment and incite the next murderers.

Sultan also expressed that the government is failing to protect its citizens: "Part of my goal here today is that our government is supposed to aide us. The government that we elected is not fulfilling its duties and is not protecting us. That should be the top priority of any government, right or left".

8. REMEMBERING ILAN RAMON 13 YEARS AFTER HIS DEATH
by Arutz Sheva Staff

In honor of Israeli space week, and the thirteenth anniversary of the Columbia explosion which killed six astronauts including Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon, Israel will be holding special ceremonies throughout the week of January 31st through February 4th.

A YouTube video highlighting an interview with Ramon is making its way around social media channels as well. Ramon's interview, which begins at the one minute and fifty six second mark of the video is one of the few interviews that he did from above Israel in the Columbia space shuttle before the fatal accident that destroyed the shuttle and its crew thirteen years ago on February first.

[youtube:2012089]

In a special ceremony which will be attended by Minister of Science and Technology Ofir Akunis, US Ambassador Daniel Shapiro, and head of the Ramon Foundation Rona Ramon, pieces of the Columbia space shuttle which carried Ilan Ramon as well as five other astronauts before it exploded 13 years ago will be unveiled to the Israeli public. The pieces of the space shuttle are on loan from NASA and were provided at the request of Rona Ramon.

The unveiling will take place on Tuesday, February 2nd as part of the Ilan Ramon International Space Conference, which is being sponsored by the Israel Space Agency, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Fischer Institute.

The Conference will be taking place at the Air Force House in Herziliya and is set to begin at 8:45 in the morning.
